War in Ukraine today: latest news, 19 July 2025 (photo)

It has been the 1242nd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back russian invaders’ advance.

On 19 July, the total number of combat engagements was 38.

Communities of Yanzhulivka in Chernihiv oblast; Sosnivka, Khliborob, Petrushivka, Velyka Pysarivka in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were four enemy attacks, and one combat engagement is still ongoing. The invaders’ aviation carried out four strikes, dropping seven guided bombs. In addition, the enemy carried out 130 artillery attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy attacked twice in the vicinity of the settlements of Lyptsi and Starytsia, and combat engagements are ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attack in the vicinity of Holubivka continues.

Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out seven attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Novyi Myr, Torske, and Serebrianka. Two clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the enemy did not conduct any active actions.

Towards Kramatorsk, units of the Defense Forces repelled one enemy attack in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar.

Towards Toretsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy attempts to penetrate Ukrainian defenses in the vicinity of Diliivka and Toretsk, and another clash is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 15 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Popiv Yar, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Molodetske, Horikhove, Dachne, and near Pokrovsk. The Defense Forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 13 attacks. Enemy aircraft carried out airstrikes on the areas of the settlements of Shakhove, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Bilytske.

Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders stopped one assault by enemy troops near the settlement of Shevchenko.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy did not conduct any assault operations.

Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainians conducted one combat engagement near Kamianske, in addition, the enemy carried out airstrikes on the settlements of Mala Tokmachka, Chervona Krynytsia, Novodanylivka, Plavni and Prymorske.

 Andrii Yermak, Head of the OP, says that Ukraine has managed to return 11 more Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories and from the russian federation. It is known that the children are aged from 10 to 17 years.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov offered the russian side a meeting next week. He also added that the team is working on one more exchange.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that there were 177 combat clashes. Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units six times in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk, Bolohivka, and Krasne Pershe. Towards Kupiansk, there were four attacks. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Stepova Novoselivka and Kindrashivka.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, informs that in the village of Nechvolodivka, Kupiansk region, on July 19, a 42-year-old man was hit by a russian drone and was injured. The strike occurred at about 2:00 pm, when the man was riding a bicycle.

Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that on the morning of July 19, an FPV drone hit a civilian car in Kupiansk. Three men aged 45, 59 and 73 were injured. The car was damaged.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, informs that on July 18, 10 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy strikes. The enemy actively used various types of weapons on the territory of the region: 39 unguided aircraft missiles; 1 UAV of the Shahed type; 6 UAVs of the Geran-2 type; 3 UAVs of the Lancet type; and 2 FPV drones.

Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

– in Kupiansk region, an outbuilding was damaged (Fedorivka village);

– in Izium region, 2 outbuildings were damaged (Pashkove village, Andriivka village);

– in Bohodukhiv region, a private house and power grids were damaged (Leskivka village); private house, pipeline of the KP “BohodukhivVoda” (Bohodukhiv city);

– in Lozovsky region, a railway track, a diesel locomotive, and the station premises were damaged (Enerhetikiv village); an outbuilding (Vyshneve village).

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reports that five children who were born and raised in Lozovsky region and who were taken to russia during the occupation of part of the oblast were returned to Ukraine. According to him, the children’s parents were deprived of parental rights. The guardian took the minors to the russian federation during active hostilities in the region. For some time, nothing was known about the fate of the children. However, they later contacted their sister in Ukraine and said that they wanted to return home.

Donetsk oblast

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, says that on July 18, an enemy DRG tried to break through to the city of Pokrovsk, but was exposed and destroyed by Ukrainian defenders. The enemy continues to use the tactics of small infantry groups, but he is powerless in his attempts to capture the city. According to him, servicemen of the Special Operations Forces and the 59th Assault Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces distinguished themselves towards Pokrovsk.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were 37 clashes towards Pokrovsk near the settlements of Poltavka, Volodymyrivka, Myroliubivka, Novoekonomichne, Lysivka, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Udachne, Horikhove, and Oleksiivka.

Shelling

Serhii Horbunov, Head of Kostiantynivka RMA, informs that on July 19, the russian military shelled the city of Kostiantynivka. One person was killed and two more injured as a result of the strikes. 

At 11:30, three airstrikes were launched on Kostiantynivka, one of the air bombs hit an apartment building, another two struck the building of a former cinema. One civilian was injured, 10 apartment buildings damaged, a cinema and one private house destroyed.

At 12:00 and 14:10, the occupiers launched FPV drone strikes on Kostiantynivka – one person was injured, apartment buildings and a private house were damaged.

As a result of enemy strikes at 18:00, critical infrastructure and private buildings were damaged in the city. One person was injured. As a result of the hits, the gas pipeline was damaged – specialists from Kostiantynivka Gas Supply Department promptly eliminated the consequences of the shelling.

The RMA reported that on the afternoon of July 19, russian troops struck the private sector of Kramatorsk. Residential buildings were subjected to enemy shelling. The enemy used strike UAVs.

Oleksandr Honcharenko, Head of the city military administration,  reported that on the night of July 19, the russian army shelled Kramatorsk. The occupiers struck the private sector of the city with strike drones and FPV drones. More than 120 private houses were damaged, at least 6 destroyed, the road surface damaged.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of the regional military administration, informs that five people were killed and nine injured in Donetsk oblast due to russian shelling over the past day. Five people were killed and three more were injured due to shelling of Kostiantynivka. In Rodynske, three people were injured as a result of a strike on an evacuation vehicle. Two people were injured as a result of a strike on Druzhkivka. One person was injured as a result of the shelling of Lyman.

Donetsk oblast police informs that on July 18, russian troops shelled nine settlements in the oblast. The following cities were shelled: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Rodynske, Sloviansk; the villages of Komyshuvakha, Novoselivka, and Svitle. 82 civilian objects were damaged, including 63 residential buildings.

russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka with six aerial bombs, drones, and Uragan anti-aircraft missile systems – five people were killed and three were injured. 36 private houses, an educational institution, a home for the elderly, an administrative building, a non-residential building, and two cars were damaged.

An FPV drone attacked a car in Rodynske – three civilians were injured.

russian troops hit a Molniya-2 UAV in Druzhkivka and covered it with Uragan anti-aircraft missiles. Two people were injured as a result of the shelling.

There is an injured civilian in Lyman, which the occupiers attacked with drones. A private and three apartment buildings, a non-residential building were damaged.

russian invaders sent three Geran-2 UAVs to Kramatorsk – a private home, an administrative building, and non-residential premises were destroyed.

As a result of the Geran-2 drone strikes in Sloviansk, 28 private houses, a shop, a cargo delivery department, and non-residential premises were damaged.

russian troops attacked Novoselivka with five Geran-2 drones – nine houses, a community center, a farm, non-residential premises, and a tractor were destroyed.

In Svetlr, Dobropillia community, a russian FPV drone damaged a private home. In the village of Komyshuvakha, a house was damaged as a result of shelling.

Artem Pliashechnyk, director of the enterprise, said that at least ten russian drone strikes on granaries and other buildings were recorded at Zoloti Prudy farm since the beginning of June.

Luhansk oblast

The regional military administration reported that the enemy is not reducing the pressure along the entire line of combat contact in Luhansk oblast. In total, they made 26 assault attempts towards Lyman, another five – towards Siversk. The occupiers tried to hit with artillery 33 times. They directed 71 drones and five FPV drones against Ukrainian defenders. 

Oleksii Kharchenko, head of Luhansk regional military administration, says that in the occupied Luhansk oblast, tariffs for utility services were raised, in particular, for garbage collection and gas. Compared to 2023, prices have almost doubled.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that overnight, residential areas in Kyiv oblast were once again attacked by enemy UAVs. No casualties were reported among the population. No critical or residential infrastructure damaged. A passenger car was damaged in Vyshhorod region. Over two dozen enemy drones were intercepted overnight on the oblast borders.

According to Kyiv City Military Administration, on the evening of 18 July, Kyiv was attacked by russian drones. In Darnytskyi district of the city, debris fell on the roof of a residential building in the private sector. No fire or casualties were reported.

In Obolonskyi district, the completely renovated kindergarten No. 206 on Poliarna Street was opened. The facility has been converted into a modern and comfortable shelter with inclusive features, where children can continue their education and learning during emergencies.

On 19 July, the famous Finnish rock band The Rasmus will perform on the main stage of the Atlas Festival in Kyiv. The day before, the musicians visited the Memorial to the Fallen in the centre of the capital and visited the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital. The guests spent the night in a shelter due to the russian attack. The band became an ambassador for the Good Donations charity fund, which raises funds for children’s hospitals in partnership with the festival.

Zhytomyr oblast

As part of the III Days of European Culture in Berdychiv, a ceremony was held to lay flowers at the Glory to Heroes Memorial in honour of Ukrainian soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence and freedom. The event was attended by delegations from partner cities in the Republic of Poland (Siedlce, Częstochowa, Płońsk, Włodawa County and the city of Włodawa), the Republic of Lithuania (Alytus), Estonia, and the Federal Republic of Germany (Konstanz).

Sumy oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that after 10am, the enemy attacked Shostka community by six guided aerial bombs. A direct hit was recorded, and a fire broke out.

During the night, russian forces shelled Shostka for nearly four hours. As a result of the attack, an infrastructure facility was destroyed, and two multi-story residential buildings and four private houses were damaged.

Around 1pm on 18 July, russian forces attacked civilian infrastructure in Sumy community using strike UAVs. As a result of one of the strikes, three civilians were injured. All were taken to the hospital and are receiving necessary medical care.

During the day, from the morning of 18 July to the morning of 19 July, 2025, russian forces carried out over 100 shelling attacks on 32 settlements across 15 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (more than 20 strikes) and MLRS (30 strikes), and also launched FPV-drone and UAV attacks across Sumy oblast.

As a result of enemy strikes in Sumy oblast, civilian infrastructure was damaged: in Sumy community — non-residential buildings, civilian infrastructure facilities, and a commercial establishment; in Krasnopillia community — a civilian infrastructure facility; in Shostka community — non-residential buildings and residential houses.

Over the past day, 7 people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, National Police, and public organizations.

In Sumy oblast, police officers from the White Angels special unit evacuated a 79-year-old man from under shelling. He had refused to leave because he didn’t want to abandon his pets. The officers evacuated him with his goats from one of the frontline villages in Khotin community.

According to the regional police, near Sumy, policemen discovered and neutralized an explosive device attached to a drone. The device was likely intended to target Ukrainian defenders and inflict casualties.

Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, announced that since the beginning of the month, UAH 10m from Sumy regional budget has been allocated to implement the Safe Sky project, aimed at protecting against russian drones. Additionally, about 20 km of roads in border communities have been equipped with anti-drone nets.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 18 July, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (13 explosions), strikes by Molniya-type aircraft drones (2 explosions), FPV-drone attacks (18 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (12 explosions). A total of 15 settlements came under enemy fire.

The enemy struck Semenivka town by two ‘Molniya’ UAVs and two FPV-drones. As a result of the explosion, the city council building was damaged.

The North Operational Command informed that on 18 July, UAV strikes damaged critical infrastructure facilities in Nizhyn and Vypovziv village in Chernihiv oblast.

According to Nataliia Levochko General Director of the Novyi Chernihiv TV channel , on 18 July, Chernihiv paid tribute to Bohdan Zaiets, a journalist and a serviceman of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade. He worked during the siege of Chernihiv and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2023. Since 30 January, 2025, he was considered missing in action, and his death was confirmed through DNA analysis.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the oblast Council, says that the enemy attacked the region with both missiles and UAVs. 

Pavlograd suffered the most. It is currently known that a fire station, enterprises and a high-rise building were damaged. In Dnipro region, several fires occurred. The occupiers struck in Nikopol region in the evening and at night. They launched kamikaze drones and fired artillery. They targeted Myrove, Pokrovske and Marhanets communities. A minibus was damaged. According to updated information, a 57-year-old man was injured in yesterday’s attacks in Marhanets community. The enemy also struck in Synelnykove region. Private houses were damaged.

During the day, the occupiers struck about two dozen times in Nikopol region. They struck with drones and fired artillery. They targeted the regional center, Myrove, Pokrovske and Marhanets communities. A 73-year-old man was injured. He was provided with the necessary medical care. Several fires broke out, medical and social institutions, enterprises, 3 private homes, 4 outbuildings, a greenhouse, a bus stop, a tractor and infrastructure were damaged. The enemy also struck Vasylkivka community of Synelnykove region. Two people were killed. Another 4 people were injured. An outpatient clinic, chapel, shop, educational and cultural institutions, private homes, a car and a power line were damaged. According to updated information, a 69-year-old man died in the attack on Pavlohrad. A 24-year-old man was injured. High-rise buildings, a private home and an educational institution were damaged.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, says that as a result of a nighttime enemy drone attack in one of the communities of Novoukrainka region, a private house was damaged. 

Poltava oblast

Poltava RMA says that the All-Ukrainian Veteran Games 2025 were held in Poltava. Over 150 participants took part in the two days of the competition.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, reports that a russian missile and three UAVs were destroyed in the oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 18 July, the Defence Forces repelled 4 russian attacks in Orikhiv region. The clashes occurred near Kamianske village.

Based on the information provided by the State Emergency Service, 7 fires broke out in the oblast due to russian shelling. In particular, in Orikhiv, firefighters extinguished fires in a residential building and an outbuilding, covering a total area of 624sq.m.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, stated that on 18 July, russian forces carried out 510 attacks on 18 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Specifically, artillery strikes were reported 141 times targeting the territories of Olhivske, Kamianske, Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka and Charivne.

Mykolaiv oblast

As reported by the Regional Military Administration, during the night of 19 July, Ukrainian air defence forces were active in Mykolaiv oblast.

Air defence units destroyed 4 Shahed drones and several other decoy UAVs of various types overnight.

On 18 July, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by FPV drones, damaging 2 residential houses in Dniprovske and Dmytrivka villages. There were no casualties reported.

Also, the russian military attacked Halytsynove community by a UAV of unspecified type. As a result, a grass fire broke out in Lymany village.

Odesa oblast

Referring to the State Emergency Service, a russian drone attack caused a fire in a 9-storey residential building in Odesa, engulfing floors 6 to 9. 5 people were rescued from the burning apartments, but one of the rescued — a woman — later died.

Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA, reported that civilian infrastructure, including high-rise buildings, was damaged in the attack. Information on the number of injured is being clarified.

The RMA reported that the Primary Health Care Centre in Khadzhibeyskyi district was damaged in the attack. The blast wave shattered windows and doors.

The Ukrainian Navy informed that the Navy personnel destroyed a sea mine that had washed ashore in Odesa oblast. It was neutralised by a controlled detonation.

Kherson oblast

According to the Regional Military Administration, at around 4am in Korabelnyi district of Kherson, a russian drone attacked a private house, injuring 2 men aged 28 and 34. They were hospitalised in moderate condition.

Also, the russian forces attacked Mylove village by drones. 3 UAVs struck an invincibility centre and 3 kamikaze drones caused a fire that destroyed a house. There were no casualties reported.

The SES reported that in Kherson, russian shelling caused destruction and fires in apartments on the 2nd floor of a high-rise building and in a separate facility. In Bilozirka, private houses caught fire. Firefighters extinguished all the blazes.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 July, 1 person was killed and 12 injured in russian attacks on Kherson oblast. 32 settlements were shelled. A high-rise building, 9 private houses, an invincibility centre, a fire department facility and several vehicles were damaged. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Vyshnivskyi community held a meeting with families of the killed, deceased, missing and captured military personnel of the Vyshnivskyi community. The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of the fallen Heroes. During the meeting, issues were discussed regarding the location and implementation of the project to develop the Alley of Glory, which will become a symbol of honoring the memory of the Heroes who gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod City Council held a meeting with Marek Radziwon, newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv,. Cooperation and support were discussed.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 4 electronic warfare devices to the Special Operations Forces fighters.

Lviv oblast

A meeting was held at Lviv Military District with families of soldiers who are missing or in captivity. Representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the National Police, the Pension Fund, and the International Committee of the Red Cross joined the conversation.

Rivne oblast

During another attack, our air defense forces neutralized several enemy air targets. No people or infrastructure were harmed.

Ternopil oblast

The 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo received 6 Mavic quadcopters from Ternopil City Council. 3 of them are DJI Mavic 3T models, and another 3 are Mavic 3 Enterprise.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community sent a hexacopter with a load capacity of up to 15 kg worth almost UAH 600,000. It can shoot down the enemy, equipment, fortifications, etc to the military.

Chernivtsi oblast

4 wounded after the russian strike on Chernivtsi still remain in hospitals. They have explosive injuries and shrapnel wounds. The condition of 44-year-old Ilona from Chernivtsi is still extremely serious. She has been in a coma since the enemy strike. 48-year-old Liliia from Chernivtsi and 71-year-old Yaroslava from Snyatyn are in serious condition, 65-year-old Maria from Chernivtsi is in satisfactory condition.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Australia has delivered 49 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Over half of the tanks have already been delivered, with the rest to arrive in the coming months.

The EU approved the 18th package of sanctions against the russian federation. The EU sanctions have also included 105 more vessels of the shadow fleet and their affiliates. The sanctions also include restrictions on russian banks’ access to financing.

Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia announced that the country has agreed to unblock the adoption of the 18th package of EU sanctions against the russian federation.
