It has been the 846th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

There have been 86 combat engagements on the frontline of the Russian-Ukrainian war since the beginning of the day. After a long lull, the aggressor became more active towards Toretsk. Ukrainian soldiers are bravely repelling enemy attacks. Our reconnaissance, artillery, aviation and unmanned systems are working.

Ukrainian aviation, missile and artillery units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck at five areas where russian personnel were concentrated, two command and control points, one command and observation post and two enemy air defence facilities.

Towards Kharkiv, two combat engagements continued near Vovchansk.

Over the day, total russian losses amounted to 105 people (irretrievable and sanitary). One enemy tank, one armoured personnel carrier, two artillery systems, eight vehicles and one special vehicle were destroyed.

Towards Kupiansk, nine enemy attempts to break into our defensive lines were registered. Two attacks near Synkivka and Berestove continue to be repelled.

Towards Lyman, another combat engagement was near Terny, bringing the total number of enemy assault actions to 11.

Towards Siversk, the enemy made 14 assault attacks. The battle with the russian invaders near Spirne continues.

Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders keep trying to improve their position in Novyi district of Chasiv Yar. The fighting continues.

Towards Toretsk, russian invaders became more active and launched five assault operations at once, near Niu-York, Pivnichne and Pivdenne. The Ukrainian Defence Forces are controlling the situation and repelling the aggressor.

The enemy is most active towards Pokrovsk. The number of combat engagements has increased to 26 since the beginning of the day. 12 russian attacks are being repelled, specifically near Novooleksandrivka, Yevhenivka, Novoselivka Persha and Sokil.

Towards Kurakhove, the invaders have already made four assault attempts on Krasnohorivka. Two combat engagements are ongoing.

Towards Vremivka, Ukrainian troops are repelling an attack near Urozhaine.

New artillery strikes from the territory of russia hit the border settlements of Sumy oblast. Thus, Turia village was shelled from the direction of Grafovka (russia), Vovkivka and Khodyno – from Stara Mykolaivka (russia), Sydorivka – from Popovka (russia).

The situation in other sectors remains without significant changes.

Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin reported that russian terrorists in Volnovakha region of Donetsk oblast beheaded a Ukrainian soldier. The Ukrainian military received information that one of the кussian units in Volnovakha region was ordered not to take Ukrainians prisoner and to behead them. After that, aerial reconnaissance found a damaged Ukrainian Armed Forces armoured vehicle with a head on top of the hood.

Serhii Chaus, Head of Chasiv Yar CMA, informed that there are still 664 people in the town, while the evacuation continues. People are currently being taken to Rivne and Volyn oblasts. The State Emergency Service is no longer able to work in the town as there is constant shelling.

Also russians have exported 34,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain to five countries under quotas without paying any duty. Wheat went to Azerbaijan and Turkey, corn to Syria, barley to Iran and peas to Spain.

The President of Ukraine signed a law on a single roaming zone with the EU. According to the law, for Ukrainians travelling in the European Union, calls, SMS and data will be included in their home package of services without additional roaming charges. Also, Europeans travelling to Ukraine will not have to pay extra for communication.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Yurii Fedorenko, Commander of the Achilles UAV battalion of the 92nd Separate Mechanised Brigade, reported that towards Kharkiv, russian troops are trying to recapture the positions they lost over the past two weeks. According to him, the Defence Forces managed to drive the russians out of a number of positions and securely occupy them and now the russian federation is trying to storm them to retake the positions. Fedorenko’s deputy, Oles Maliarevych, said russian troops are also trying to hold on to the positions they seized in May.

Roman Pohorilyi, co-founder of the Deepstate analytical project, informed that Ukrainian defence forces are keeping under fire control the aggregate plant in the border Vovchansk, which is occupied by russian troops. According to him, the russians began to break into the plant a month ago, at the beginning of a renewed offensive on the northern border in Kharkiv oblast.

The 3rd Separate Mechanised Brigade reported that russian troops are planning to capture Borova after they reach the borders of Luhansk oblast. According to the Deepstate analytical project, to advance on Borova, the russian army has built up a “striking fist” from Raihorodok to Novovodiane. Researchers report that the russians have gathered up to 10,000 troops and about 450 pieces of military equipment in this area, including 200 artillery systems.

Towards Kharkiv, russian attacked Vovchansk 14 times and one time near Lyptsi village yesterday. Towards Kupiansk, the number of combat engagements also totalled 14.

Towards Kharkiv, russian troops lost 168 people over the day, 55 of them irretrievably. One russian tank, one armoured combat vehicle and two vehicles were destroyed. Another tank, an artillery system and a vehicle were damaged. 16 enemy personnel hideouts and one ammunition depot were destroyed.

Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of Derhachi CMA, said that the russian military struck at Slatyne. According to him, houses and administrative buildings were damaged. A 51-year-old woman was injured as a result of the russian strike.

The press service of the regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that a 47-year-old man was injured as a result of shelling of Kurylivka in Kupiansk region. According to the press service, the russian federation opened fire on the village with artillery at around 8:45am. Residential buildings were damaged.

Volodymyr Tymoshko, Head of Kharkiv Police said that around 11am, the russian military launched an Iskander missile at the Borova community. He noted that the russians hit a civilian facility, and no one was injured.

Oleksandr Tertyshnyi, Head of Borova Village Military Administration, reported that over the past three weeks, about 200-300 people have evacuated from Borova community, while another 6,800 continue to stay. The population is being urged to evacuate because of the daily shelling and proximity to the frontline.

Yesterday at 10:30am, Nemyshlianskyi district was hit. As a result of hostile shelling, a house was damaged: windows, doors and roof. There were no casualties.

At 2:30am, a woman was injured as a result of hostile shelling in Borivska Andriivka village of Borova community, Izium region.

In one day, the enemy used 21 subversive aerial vehicles in Vovchansk, Lyptsi and Kharkiv communities in Kharkiv oblast.

In Vovchansk, 10 enemy attacks were repelled. The situation remains tense. Fighting continues in four locations. The defence forces continue to strengthen defensive positions and borders.

Towards Kupiansk, the number of combat engagements increased to 14 since the beginning of the day. Ukrainian troops repelled nine enemy attacks near Synkivka. One enemy attack near Stepova Novoselivka was also unsuccessful. Fighting continues near Pishchane, Berestove and Stepova Novoselivka. The situation is under control.

Donetsk oblast

Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin said that russian commanders ordered the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier in Donetsk oblast instead of taking him prisoner. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the war crime was discovered during aerial reconnaissance at a combat position in Donetsk oblast. The Ukrainian military discovered a damaged armoured vehicle of the Ukrainian Defence Forces with the head of a Ukrainian defender on it. 

A soldier of the 47th Brigade with callsign Azumyt reported that the ratio of forces towards Pokrovsk is 1 to 7 in favour of the russians. The russians are pressing near Novoselivka Persha, Sokil and Novopokrovske, trying to reach Pokrovsk-Konstiantynivka highway.

Based on the information provided in the morning report by the General Staff, since the beginning of the day, the situation has been the hottest towards Siversk. Here, russians stormed Ukrainian positions nine times, eight attacks were repelled by the Defence Forces, and another battle near Vyimka is ongoing. The russian army is also storming Chasiv Yar, trying to advance to Nove neighbourhood.

According to Donetsk Regional Military Administration, today, a memorandum was signed between Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the American charity PROJECT VICTORY UKRAINE, as well as with their Ukrainian representative office. Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, PROJECT VICTORY UKRAINE has been supporting the medical infrastructure and providing hospitals with all the necessary supplies. The charity organisation is also providing civilians in Donetsk oblast with drinking water and food.

Donetsk pyrotechnics destroyed an unexploded russian FAB-250 bomb found by residents of Kostiantynivka. In total, rescuers eliminated almost 300 explosive devices last week.

The National Police of Donetsk oblast reported that the White Angels unit evacuated the last child from the frontline Prohres. Recently, families with children were forced to evacuate the village due to the approaching front line and the increased number of shelling.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 18 June is as follows:

Volnovakha region. 2 enterprises were damaged in Bohoiavlenka of Vuhledar community.

Pokrovsk region. Vovchenka of Kurakhove community was shelled. The outskirts of Marinka, Ocheretyne and Hrodivka communities were under attack.

Kramatorsk region. Terny, Yampolivka and Torske of Lyman community were shelled. Bila Hora, Dyliivka and Oleksandro-Shultyne of Kostiantynivka community were hit. In Illinivka community, 3 objects in Zoria and 3 objects in Katerynivka were damaged.

Bakhmut region. A person was injured, 9 private houses and 2 apartment buildings were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. In Toretsk community, a shop in Zalizne and 14 private houses were damaged: 7 in Niu-York and 7 in Pivnichne. A house was damaged in Serebrianka of Siversk community. A person was killed and a house destroyed in Zvanivka.

In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 9 times over the day. 93 people, including 22 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, informed that yesterday russians killed 1 civilian in Zvanivka. One more person was injured in the oblast. 

Luhansk oblast

Makiivka and Nevske were hit by an airstrike. The village was also shelled by Grad multiple rocket launchers. The enemy used artillery and mortars near Stelmakhivka, Kuzemivka, Nevske and Makiivka.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, russians attacked 27 times over the day. They tried to advance near Hrekivka, Makiivka and Serebrianka forest. The invaders suffered losses there.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that the higher education institution located in the occupied building of Luhansk National University  named after Volodymyr Dal will start training technicians and operators of unmanned aerial systems in the new academic year. The department has created an aircraft fleet of drones and installed flight training simulation systems. Other students of the university are already studying the discipline “Fundamentals of Unmanned Aerial Systems” and are also taking an elective course “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles”.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office submitted to the court an indictment against a sniper of the Zaslon special unit of the russian National Guard for opening fire on a civilian car moving towards Bucha. The driver received numerous gunshot wounds but managed to escape. Members of this russian soldier’s unit were involved in the shooting of 12 vehicles, killing of 11 citizens and the wounding of 15. The occupiers received the order to shoot at vehicles passing by their positions from their commander.

Vasyl Tsvyk, Head of Zhurivka village, reported that the sniper scout from Kyiv oblast, Volodymyr Ostapenko, was killed at the front as a result of enemy mortar and artillery fire on 14 June.

A funeral service for Colonel Valentyn Korenchuk, call sign Bdzholiar, of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Centre Air Command of the Ukrainian Air Force, took place in Kyiv. Korenchuk confronted the enemy threat in the skies of Kyiv from the first days of the full-scale russian invasion, performed combat missions in the southern and eastern directions, and made more than 80 flight combat missions.

Bucha City Council announced that on 17 June, Bucha community gave the final respect to its resident Mykola Volkov. The soldier stood up to defend his homeland in 2014, and since the beginning of the full-scale war, has returned to the army. He participated in the liberation of Bucha and was wounded during the Battle of Bakhmut. He died on 12 June 2024 at Kyiv Central Military Hospital.

Kyiv Regional Military Administration announced that explosions may be heard in Vyshhorod region. Work will be carried out on the territory of the district to eliminate explosive devices. 

According to the SES press service report, in Lubianka village, Bucha region, a pyrotechnic group of the Mobile Rescue Centre of Rapid Response seized a 40mm grenade launcher. The sappers also seized a 76mm artillery shell in Skybyn village and the safe remains of an X-101 missile in Novi Petrivtsi village, Vyshhorod region. All the weapons were found by local residents during their daily routine. 

SES of Ukraine’s mobile rescue centre reported that on 17 June, an anti-personnel fragmentation grenade was found on a private farm in Bucha region. The sappers removed and neutralised the grenade.

Representatives of the Latvian Charitable Foundation “Entrepreneurs for Peace” handed over an off-road vehicle to Bila Tserkva RMA. According to the word of district administration, the vehicle will be inspected, technical support provided, and the SUV will be sent to the Defence Forces.

Borodianka village council announced that 11 defence structures need to be built in Borodianka according to the Master Plan. Some of the community’s defences are under construction. Borodianka village council has sent an appeal to Kyiv Regional State Administration to provide for the development and construction of these structures.

According to Vadym Tokar, Head of Makariv community, repairs are underway to arrange a shelter in Veselka kindergarten in Kalynivka. The interior is being arranged, and the builders have installed electricity and water supply and connected the Internet. The shelter will meet the highest safety and comfort requirements thanks to the support of the international organisation Global Emergency Relief.

The Ukrainian City Council informed that the Ukrainian community is planning to build several shelters. The fund of protective structures of the Ukrainian city territorial community includes 12 simple shelters, of which two are state-owned, three are privately owned, two are communal property of Kyiv Regional Council, and six are communal property of the Ukrainian City Council. 

Specialised school №89 in Pecherskyi district will be named after Hryhorii Tsekhmistrenko, a soldier of the International Legion of the TRO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Hryhorii Tsekhmistrenko is a participant of the Revolution of Dignity, a Canadian citizen who joined the International Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning.

Zhytomyr oblast

Vitalii Bunechko, Head of Zhytomyr Regional Military Education Administration, announced about the meeting held with the rectors of Zhytomyr universities, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police on the wartime admission campaign. During the meeting, attention was paid to compliance with the legal requirements for admission of candidates to prevent the use of higher education institutions as a means of evading military service

A military recruitment centre has been opened in Zhytomyr to help those wishing to join the army find a brigade and speciality. According to the head of the city’s Department for Veterans Affairs, Andrii Zabihailo, the military recruitment centre includes representatives of the 46th and 95th brigades, the 132nd reconnaissance battalion, and the 148th artillery division. There is also the 421st UAV unit and the National Guard of Ukraine. The centre also provides services to war veterans and their families. According to the city mayor, Serhii Sukhomlin, there will be no representatives of the TCC in the centre.

An open lesson on drone control was held in Zhytomyr. In the RoboticsZT robotics club, more than 90 children can learn to pilot UAVs for free using a DJI Tello training drone. Other areas of study include lego construction, programming, Arduino circuitry, and drone piloting. 

Anneli Kolk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine informed that Estonia plans to invest another €56m in projects in Zhytomyr oblast in 2024-2027. According to her, Estonian investments amounted to €4m in 2022 and €8m in 2023. Estonia plans to restore an art school in Malyn, build shelters in seven orphanages, reconstruct housing for internally displaced persons in Ovruch, and start building three family-type orphanages.

Sumy oblast

According to the RMA report, at night and in the morning, russians attacked the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast nine times. 33 explosions were recorded. Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivska, Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled. 

Velyka Pysarivka community: seven enemy FPV drones attacked (7 explosions). 

Yunakivka community: an attack by 3 FPV drones was recorded (3 explosions), artillery shelling (10 explosions). 

Seredyna-Buda community: the enemy fired from mortars (6 explosions) and cannon artillery (4 explosions). 

Bilopillia community: russians dropped 2 mines on the territory of the community. 

Krasnopillia community: an explosive ordnance was dropped from a UAV (1 explosion).

Yesterday russians fired 12 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. 38 explosions were recorded. Mykolaivka, Khotyn, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Esman communities were shelled.

The Ministry of Energy noted that in Sumy oblast, 3,697 residents in 72 settlements remain without electricity. Of these, 3,680 are affected by the hostilities. Yesterday, power engineers supplied power to 3,073 residents.

The RMA announced that the security and defence forces of Sumy oblast received the necessary equipment to protect the region more effectively. In particular, the transfer included an off-road vehicle, a generator, battery chargers, charging stations, and surveillance cameras that will help detect the enemy even at night.

Ukrainian Veterans Fund on its Facebook page reported that Veterans can receive rehabilitation equipment free of charge. The programme provides for prosthetic and orthopaedic products, including footwear, self-care and grooming products, mobility aids, etc. The programme is open to people with disabilities, military personnel, veterans of military service and law enforcement agencies and some other categories of people.

A community day was held in Sumy oblast on the topic “Culture as a component of Ukrainian resilience”. Participants of the joint cultural activity, which constituted a part of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Programme Are You OK? initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska, visited the Odyssey Pier Museum and experienced the healing ability of culture to support mental health during the war.

Chernihiv oblast

Halyna Shekhovtsova,  Spokeswoman of Chernihiv border detachment, reports that on 17 June, the russian army attacked from mortars two border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka. In total, there were 15 explosions. Thus,  Novhorod-Siverskyi community experienced five explosions (hits, probably from a 120 mm mortar) towards the village of Hremiach. In Semenivka community, there were four explosions (hits, probably from a 120-mm mortar) towards the village of Leonivka and six explosions (probably from a 120 mm mortar) on the outskirts of the village of Bleshnia.

Oleksandr Lomako, Acting Mayor of Chernihiv, says that the Belgians will restore one of the vocational education institutions in Chernihiv. UNDP representatives consulted on new projects. Three vocational schools from Chernihiv oblast were included in the list of the first 72 institutions where professions required for the reconstruction of the country will be taught: Chernihiv Higher Vocational School, Nizhyn Professional Agrarian Lyceum and Chernihiv Professional Construction Lyceum.

Dina Vong, press officer of the 1st Separate Tank Siversky Brigade, says that the russian army has increased its attack with guided aerial bombs, infantry and FPV drones in Donbas of the 1st Separate Tank Siverskyi Brigade from Chernihiv oblast.

Oleksandr Lomako, Acting Mayor of Chernihiv, says that аive cogeneration units are being installed in Chernihiv, which were provided to the city by international partners as humanitarian aid. 

The mobile pharmacy branch of the Liky Chernihivshchyny Municipal Enterprise has already made 15 visits. Currently, there is a need for mobile pharmacy visits to 385 settlements of the region. 75 routes have been developed.

Volunteers of the Association of Volunteers Because We Can! help Chernihiv residents whose homes were damaged due to hostilities. There is still a lot of rubble, and there are fewer and fewer people at the clean-up. This is how the co-founder of the Association, Valentyn Bobyr, describes the situation in Chernihiv. He and other volunteers have been helping people whose homes were damaged. The man says that if at first several dozens of people from different parts of the region and the world joined the talks, now 5-10 permanent volunteers are coming.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

At night, an enemy Shahed was shot down by air defence forces in Dnipro region. 3 private houses and 2 cars were damaged. A house and 2 cars were damaged. A fire broke out and was quickly extinguished. In the evening, the occupiers shelled Nikopol with artillery. About a dozen shells were fired. A multi-storey building was damaged. In the morning, the enemy attacked the area again. The region’s centre and Marhanets community were attacked. The occupiers used kamikaze drones, artillery and dropped ammunition from drones. In Nikopol, 6 private houses and a power line were damaged by enemy shelling. 

A 37-year-old man was injured in an enemy attack in Nikopol. He was hospitalised with shrapnel wounds in the trauma department.

In total, the occupiers fired about a dozen times in Nikopol region during the day. Artillery and kamikaze drones were used. Nikopol, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities were under attack. A multi-storey building and a car were damaged. According to the updated information, 14 houses, 5 outbuildings, 2 greenhouses, a garage, power lines and gas pipelines were damaged in Nikopol as a result of the morning shelling.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​In Vinnytsia, the registration of candidates for the Municipal Housing Program will take place from 5 July to 15 July. The largest number of quotas is provided for combatants in russian war against Ukraine. Members of the first degree of kinship of the families of fallen soldiers and IDPs can also participate in the VMTG Municipal Housing Program. Quotas for 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments have been approved.

In Vinnytsia, 13-year-old Solomiia Balaniuk and her younger brothers Ostap and Ustym are holding open-air charity concerts. The initiative is aimed at raising funds to purchase an evacuation vehicle for military medics of the 94th Brigade. The children play the violin, guitar and clarinet.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, equine-assisted therapy classes for children at the hippodrome were organised. Currently, fifty horses live there. Children can visit the stables, talk to the horses, and ride them. IDPs and military children are invited.

Poltava oblast

Kateryna Yamshchikova, secretary of the city council, reported that on 17 June, more than 20 people were injured in a rocket attack by the russian army on Poltava. After the shelling, 22 people went to hospitals. Eight of them are in medical institutions of the city. There are three children among them. 13 houses in a residential area were damaged. A large number of windows were smashed, over 700. Seven humanitarian buildings were damaged. Most of the residents have had their electricity restored. The consequences of the shelling are being cleaned up by local residents, utility companies and volunteers. Social workers and psychologists are also providing assistance on the spot. Cherkasy oblast

Cherkasy craftsmen have created a multifunctional mini-tank robot. A remote-controlled mini-tank drone, a combat tracked robot, can deliver ammunition, food, water to ground zero, and take killed or wounded soldiers off the battlefield. And if necessary, it can turn into a mobile firing point. The operator can remotely fire a tank machine gun mounted on a drone.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the Commander of the Air Force of Ukraine on 18 June, the occupiers attacked with 10 Shahed-131/136 strike drones from Primorsko-Akhtarsk (russia). 9 out of 10 enemy drones were shot down over Zaporizhzhia.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that on 17 June, the occupiers carried out 404 attacks across 8 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy forces attacked 8 settlements in the oblast, with aviation strikes on Terenuvate and Kamianske.

Also, 172 drones of various types attacked Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka. MLRS was used 21 times to attack Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Malynivka and Huliaipole. 

Furthermore, 209 artillery strikes targeted the areas of Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne and Malynivka.

There were 7 reports of housing destruction. No civilian casualties were reported.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian military destroyed an assault armoured column with russian paratroopers in the area of the frontline settlement of Urozhaine on Vremivka (formerly Berdiansk) axis.

Petro Kotin, Acting Head of the Enerhoatom’s Board, informed that as of June, direct losses for the company due to the occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP exceeded UAH 210bn. Each month, Energoatom loses about UAH 6bn due to Zaporizhzhia  NPP’s downtime. Also, Enerhoatom still needs to calculate the losses incurred from the forced relocation of Zaporizhzhia NPP employees to the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, noted that russian forces continue to terrorise the settlements in Mykolaiv oblast. Recently, the russians launched a missile strike on Voznesensk region, causing a grass fire.

On 17 June, the enemy directed 8 FPV drones at the villages of Kutsurub community. In Solonchaky village, a drone damaged a private house. The russians twice attacked Dmytrivka village with kamikaze drones, damaging a private house and injuring a 69-year-old woman who owned the property.

According to South Air Command, the enemy attacked Mykolaiv oblast from the temporarily occupied Crimea with a ballistic missile carrying cluster munitions (likely an Iskander-M).

Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ecosystem of the Kinburn Spit peninsula in Mykolaiv oblast has suffered severe damage due to artillery-induced fires. According to the National Nature Park Biloberezhzhia Sviatoslava, 7,166.20 hectares of precious land have been burned and irreversibly lost.

Odesa oblast

According to South Air Command, on the night of 18 June, Odesa oblast was under russian attack. From the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, the enemy launched an X-31P anti-radar missile at the oblast’s civilian population.

Bridget Brink, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, stated that American equipment is helping the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Odesa port administration protect and maintain the Black Sea humanitarian corridor, from which about 850 ships and 52m tonnes of grain and cargo have been dispatched to feed the world and support Ukraine’s economy. This was reported by the Center for Transport Strategies (CTS), citing Interfax-Ukraine.

According to Flightradar portal, a NATO Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft began patrolling the Black Sea on 18 June. The U.S. Navy reconnaissance plane is monitoring the situation in the waters near Odesa shores.

Kherson oblast

On 17 June, Air Defence in Kherson oblast destroyed 2 Lancet strike drones. Later, Kherson was shelled by russian mortars. The body of an unidentified man was found in one of the city’s parks. According to Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, the deceased was likely a victim of the mortar shelling.

Also, he informed that the russian army attacked 17 settlements in Kherson oblast. 

The enemy shelled Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Zarichne, Novotiahynka, Yantarne, Kizomys, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Shyroka Balka, Inzhenerne, Sadove, Beryslav, Mykolaivka, Burhunka, Osokorivka, Havrylivka and Kherson. The shelling damaged residential areas, with significant damage to 2 apartment buildings and 6 private houses. There were hits on a critical infrastructure facility, a penitentiary facility, a garage and private vehicles. 2 people were killed.

Further, 12 children aged 2 to 17 were returned to Ukraine-controlled territory from the temporarily occupied part of Kherson oblast.

According to the Southern District State Environmental Inspectorate, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and as of May 2024, the total amount of damage due to soil pollution and land contamination with construction waste, missile and shell fragments in Kherson oblast exceeds UAH 7,357,259,000.

Volyn oblast

Lutsk community sent 20 8-inch FPV multi-rotor UAVs, 20 Raptor 8 UAVs with a day camera, a portable radio-electronic anti-drone tool Quertus AD G-6+ and 3 DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combos to the 1141 Military Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine thanks to the budget funds.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA presented state awards (posthumously) to soldiers from the oblast, who were killed while performing their duty in the fight against the occupier. The III degree For Courage Order was awarded to Iliia Bohachuk, staff sergeant of the State Border Service of Ukraine. Ivan Berezhnyk, police regiment of the Special Purpose Police Patrol Service Kyiv of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, was posthumously awarded with the For the Defense of Ukraine Presidential Award.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that as part of the Care for the Hero’s Family project, excursion tours of the Carpathians for families of defenders are ongoing. 18 participants from Dolynsk region visited the colourful places of Boikiv region.

Lviv oblast

Lviv RMA allocated over UAH 27m for the needs of defenders. This time, the funds were directed in particular to:

  • UAVs, electronic warfare equipment and sniper equipment for 4 separate special purpose unit Omeha;
  • combat drones for the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigades, the 33th Separate Mechanised Brigades and the 233th Combined Military Training Grounds;
  • EW devices for the 710th Security Brigades of the State Special Transport Service and the 53th Separate Mechanised Brigades.

In total, since the beginning of the year, Lviv RMA has directed almost UAH 432m from the regional budget to the needs of defenders. All funds are allocated within the framework of the Safe Lviv Oblast program.

The RMA held a meeting with Zheng Zhang, 2nd secretary of the Embassy of Canada. They discussed insurance for Canadian citizens in Ukraine.

The 2nd Mental Health Marathon has started in Lviv oblast. This time it gathered school principals, teachers, school psychologists, active parents and representatives of territorial communities from Sambir and Strii regions. Altogether there are over 350 people. Over the course of 3 days, under the guidance of specialists, they will learn how to take care of the mental health of children, teenagers, the elderly, our soldiers and their relatives. Separate time will be dedicated to families whose loved ones have killed, are in captivity or are missing.

Rivne oblast

The police received another report about the mining of the building of Rivne RMA. According to the protocol, workers were evacuated. Special services conducted an inspection of the premises. No explosive objects were found.

The 1st psychological training was held as part of the Ukrainian-Swiss Mental Health for Ukraine project. The program coaches shared knowledge and tools to improve their own mental well-being and those around them who need it.

In Rivne oblast, training is underway to improve the living conditions of IDPs. Participants of the event are managers of hostels where IDPs live, as well as representatives of territorial communities.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ternopil-Zboriv Kyr Vasylii (Semeniuk) and Assistant Bishop Volodymyr (Firman). They discussed assistance to the UGCC of the IDPs. Specifically, they discussed the Maria spiritual centre, which from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation became one of the powerful volunteer centres.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the community sent a modern backhoe loader worth over UAH 4m to one of the combat units of the Defense Forces. In addition, they sent 10-inch FPV drones with 2 cameras, additional batteries for quadcopters and a EW device.

Chernivtsi oblast

6 Bukovyna communities, where the Centers for the provision of social services function, received electric bicycles from the Stabilization Support Services CF.

In the 1st quarter of 2024, Storozhynsk community allocated over UAH 135,000 for the needs of military units. Of them UAH 132,200 was directed to the purchase of vitally necessary spare parts for the military equipment of the A7187 Military Unit. In addition, computer equipment, laptops and printing paper were purchased for the needs of this military unit. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Rheinmetall German concern will send a Frankenstein air defence system to Ukraine. It can shoot down missiles and drones. The installation is equipped with the latest German anti-aircraft gun Skyranger, standing on the base of the Leopard 1 tank. The gun has sophisticated sensors with a 360-degree view of the battlefield, which helps to fight swarms of UAVs. The number and exact date of delivery of Frankenstein installations to Ukraine is unknown.

The European Union became an observer of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.

Lloyd Austin, Head of the Pentagon, stated that Argentina joined Ramstein to help Ukraine.

The Pentagon said that the US aid allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to slow down the offensive of the occupation forces of the russian federation in Kharkiv oblast. In addition, it helped to ensure that the defensive line was held firmly. General Patrick Ryder, representative of the Ministry of Defense, stated that the next meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format will be held in Brussels this week.

Ursula von der Leyen, Head of the European Commission, announced that Ukraine has completed all the necessary steps to start negotiations on joining the EU by the end of this month.

Germany created a special group to counter russian disinformation. With this, the German government implements the conclusions set out in the national security strategy published last year, in which moscow was called the main threat to Germany’s security.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, announced that as part of the interparliamentary work, the Lithuanian parliament adopted 15 resolutions in support of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, signed the law on a single roaming zone with the EU. According to the law, for Ukrainians travelling in the European Union, calls, SMS and data transmission will be included in the home service package without additional roaming charges. Also, Europeans coming to Ukraine will not have to pay extra for communication.
