What happened in Ukraine today:
Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 10 pm:
Ukrainian defenders continue to resolutely repel the enemy’s attempts to advance into the depths of our territory, inflicting effective fire damage and depleting them along the entire frontline.
In total, there have been 226 combat engagements.
The russian invaders launched 24 air strikes on the territory of Ukraine, using 30 combat aircraft. In addition, the russians used 570 kamikaze drones and fired over 3,700 times at the positions of our troops and settlements.
Towards Kharkiv, russian invaders did not conduct any offensive actions.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy stormed our defenders’ positions three times near Kucherivka, Zahryzove and Lozova. Ukrainian defenders repelled all enemy attacks.
Towards Lyman, since the beginning of the day, russian invaders have attacked Ukrainian positions 15 times near the settlements of Kopanky, Vyshneve, Novoiehorivka, Terny, Hryhorivka, Novoplatonivka, Novosergiivka, Makiivka, Terny, in Serebrianka forest and in the direction of Cherneshchyna. All the hostilities have already ended.
Towards Siversk, the enemy attacked seven times in the areas of Bilohorivka, Verkhnokamianske, Ivan-Daryne, Spirne and Siversk. Three firefights are still ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, six combat engagements were registered near Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar and Stupochky, which were successfully repelled by our troops.
Towards Toretsk, russians attacked the positions of the defence forces 11 times. The occupiers concentrated their main offensive efforts near the settlements of Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. Two firefights are currently ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, russians have tried to break through our defences 46 times near the settlements of Lysivka, Dachenske, Novyi Trud, Zelene, Novooleonivka, Pishchane and Ukrainka. Eight combat engagements have taken place so far.
The enemy is suffering significant losses – more than 320 occupants have been neutralised in this area so far, 114 of them irreversibly. Two vehicles and one enemy anti-aircraft mount were also destroyed.
Towards Kurakhove, the enemy attacked our positions 29 times near the settlements of Sontsivka, Stari Terny, Kurakhove and Yantarne, ten engagements are ongoing.
Towards Vremivka, the invaders carried out 22 offensives near Kostiantynopilske, Rozdolne, Novyi Komar, Neskuchne, Uspenivka, Sukhi Yaly, Blahodatne, Makarivka and Novodarivka. Five firefights are still ongoing.
The enemy is suffering significant losses – over 86 occupiers have been neutralised in this area today, 33 of them irreversibly. Five units of enemy vehicles, two tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles and one buggy were also destroyed. One tank and one armoured combat vehicle were also heavily damaged.
Towards Orikhiv, the enemy attacked four times in the area of Novoandriivka. Novoandriivka, Lobkove, Zaliznychne, Huliai Pole and Novopil were attacked by russian-made aerial vehicles.
Our troops repelled three enemy attacks towards Dnipro.
The Ukrainian defence forces continue to conduct operations in Kursk oblast, where the enemy conducted 72 assaults on the positions of Ukrainian units over the past day, with five clashes still ongoing. The enemy launched 6 air strikes with 12 combat aircraft, firing 293 times.
The situation in other sectors did not change significantly.
The Air Force reported that air defence forces shot down 27 out of 49 drones overnight in Chernihiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, Khmelnytsky, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. At the same time, 19 drones did not reach their targets. Three are still in the air.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Army+ application now offers transfers for National Guard servicemen. According to him, at the first stage, transfers within the National Guard are open, then transfers between units of the Armed Forces will be possible. In the near future, border guard units will be added to the application.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
The General Staff reported that Vremivka, Siversk, Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions were the areas where russian troops stormed and attacked the most over the past day. Defence forces repelled more than 160 attacks on the eastern front.
Towards Vremivka, russian units stormed Ukrainian positions 35 times. There were 34 battles towards Siversk and the russian army attacked 32 times towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.
Kharkiv oblast
At 5:28am, Zlatopil town of Lozova region was under attack. According to the CMA, Ukrainian air defence forces eliminated the enemy UAV.
Yesterday at 11:05am, Kyivskyi district was targeted. A missile strike damaged the facade, roof, 62 windows and 8 doors of a sports complex building. A 48-year-old woman was injured in the attack.
At 6:35pm, Derhachi village of Kharkiv region was under attack. The building’s roof was hit. The hangar building was damaged.
At 6:30pm, Kutkivka village of Kupiansk region was hit. A 54-year-old woman was injured as a result of the shelling.
At 6:21pm, Derhachi was attacked. A Shahed UAV hit the ground, damaging 2 industrial buildings.
At 10:50am, Kupiansk was shelled. A private house was damaged as a result of the shelling.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy stormed the positions of our troops ten times near Vysoka Yaruha, Tykhe and Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, four enemy attacks took place over the last day. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Zahryzove and Lozova.
Olha Yakovleva, a representative of the Plast scouting organisation, said that on 16 December, the Peace Light of Bethlehem was delivered to Kharkiv. Lviv Plast members handed it over to their Kharkiv counterparts via a railway conductor – before that, the light arrived in Austria and from there to Ukraine.
Anastasiia Domanska, a doctor at Kharkiv veterinary clinic, said that Nastia the duck, who lost her leg due to poisoning by oil products after a russian strike on an oil depot in February, has had a prosthetic leg fitted to replace her own. This is the first prosthetic surgery for a bird in Kharkiv, and Kyiv veterinarians have had similar experience in Ukraine before. Anastasia Domanska is currently taking care of the duck. The clinic has made socks with Nastia the duck on them, and the money from their sale goes to the treatment and maintenance of birds for which the clinic does not charge.
Donetsk oblast
Yesterday police recorded 2,645 hostile attacks on the frontline and in the residential sector.
12 civilian objects were destroyed, including three residential buildings.
The occupiers dropped two UMPB D-30SN bombs on Druzhkivka, damaging an apartment building, a utility company, a library, a shop, a civilian car, and power grids.
Also russia shelled Myrnohrad with artillery, damaging two apartment buildings.
The CMA reported that in Shevchenko village of Pokrovsk community, russian troops killed a child. The boy, born in 2010, died on 11 December as a result of russian shelling. He was buried on the territory of the household at his place of residence.
Yesterday russian troops tried to improve their tactical position by attacking Ukrainian fortifications near Storozheve, Dachenske and the southern outskirts of Zelenivka: they were unsuccessful, suffered losses and withdrew. At the same time, the russian army actively stormed near Novyi Komar, in the urban area of Chasiv Yar, on the southeastern outskirts and in the urban area of the southern part of Kurakhove.
Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia military unit, informed that there are no russian subversive reconnaissance groups in Pokrovsk.
The enemy troops are actively storming the southeastern outskirts of Kurakhove and fighting is also ongoing in the urban area of the southern part of the town. The russian army has an advantage in manpower.
Stepan Barna, Commander of the Barni unit of the 10th Separate Mechanised Brigade, said that for the last two days, russian troops have been actively storming towards Siversk in large groups of several dozen soldiers. They use vehicles, motorcycles, and buggies to “slip through” the Ukrainian intelligence cordon and take up positions.
Luhansk oblast
The number of unmanned aerial vehicles used by the enemy in this area of the frontline has increased again. Yesterday, the russians sent 85 UAVs towards the fortifications of Ukrainian defenders. They opened fire from artillery ten times. The enemy continues ground pressure in Bilohorivka. The invaders also attacked in the areas of Novoiehorivka, Hrekivka, Tverdokhlibove and Nadiia.
The so-called “luhansk people’s republic” continues to look for options to legalise the deprivation of real estate from the evacuated population. Recently, they adopted a “law” that regulates “the peculiarities of identifying, using and recognising the right of municipal property of municipal entities of the “lpr” to residential premises that have signs of ownerlessness”. With this document, they want to legitimise the so-called “nationalisation” of apartments and houses that have been abandoned since 2014. The invaders propose to establish the absence of owners in cooperation with the State Land Register, the Federal Land Register and utility companies. The acquired property will be provided to new residents for temporary and permanent use. The occupiers advise the real owners of the property to immediately apply to the russian court.
Every week in the schools of the occupied Luhansk region, children’s smartphones are checked for VPNs. This control is carried out in cities with mobile coverage. In 560 educational institutions of the so-called “lpr”, a ban has been imposed on the use of a significant part of Internet content. First of all, these are resources that objectively cover the events of the russian-Ukrainian war. The content is filtered by a local mobile operator.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, reported that russian troops attacked Kyiv oblast with drones at night and in the morning. As a result of falling debris in one of the districts, 3 private houses were damaged. The air raid lasted over 4 hours. No one was injured.
Work is underway to install 6 cogeneration units in Kyiv oblast. They will become a source of additional power and generate heat for consumers in Brovary, Bila Tserkva, Fastiv and Bucha regions. The cogeneration units are provided with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
According to the Regional Military Administration, children from the Sunshine Children’s Social and Rehabilitation Centre, who were temporarily relocated to Switzerland at the beginning of the occupation of Kyiv oblast, have returned to Ukraine. Five of the returned children have been successfully placed in foster care. In total, 234 children have been returned to Ukraine to date.
A solemn event dedicated to the presentation of the fourth volume of the Book of Memory for 2017-2018 “WHO IF NOT ME…” was held at the Kyiv Regional Military Academy. The book perpetuates the memory of the soldiers who gave their lives defending the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine in the early years of the russian-Ukrainian war. During the event, the volunteers of Kyiv oblast who actively support the defenders of Ukraine were awarded with certificates of honour. The relatives of the fallen heroes received copies of the new volume of the Book of Remembrance.
More than 70 war veterans competed in 6 sports during the Circle of the Unbreakable sports event in Boryspil. The first places were awarded with unique medals made of different metal alloys from the frontline. The competitions were held in powerlifting, table tennis, kettlebell lifting, rowing, archery, chess and darts.
Zhytomyr oblast
As part of an international technical assistance project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Zhytomyr oblast received support for the development of distributed generation. The cities of Berdychiv and Zviahel received two cogeneration units that will serve as the basis for modernising local heat supply companies.
On 13 December, a forum of project participants of the “Pilot of the Estonian Clanbeat solution in Zhytomyr oblast” project was held in Zhytomyr. The event presented the results of a six-month project to improve the psychological well-being of selected school groups. One of the main objectives of the project is not only to study the well-being of teachers in Zhytomyr oblast, but also to help them form the habit of listening to their state and influencing it.
In Zhytomyr, the Polissia National University hosted the open regional sitting volleyball championship. Most of the participants were war veterans and athletes with musculoskeletal disorders. The competition was attended by athletes from Vinnytsia, Rivne, Kyiv and Zhytomyr oblasts.
Sumy oblast
During night and morning, russians carried out 3 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 16 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia communities.
On 15 Desember, russians carried out 48 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 83 explosions. The attacks targeted Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Buryn, Nova Slobidka, Esman, Seredyna-Buda communities.
Bilopillia community: VOG was dropped from a UAV (8 explosions), an attack by an FPV drone (1 explosion).
Krasnopillia community: the enemy struck by mortars (30 explosions), FPV-drones (7 explosions), dropped VOG from a UAV (4 explosions).
Esman community: the russians struck by MLRS (8 explosions).
Nova Slobidka community: an attack by an FPV-drone (1 explosion).
Buryn community: VOG was dropped from a UAV (2 explosions).
Seredyna-Buda community: an attack by FPV-drones (8 explosions) was recorded.
Velyka Pysarivka community: VOG was dropped from a UAV (8 explosions), mortar shelling (3 explosions), an attack by FPV-drones (2 explosions).
Yunakivka community: a missile strike (1 explosion).
According to the State Emergency Service of Sumy oblast, over the past week, pyrotechnic teams neutralized 34 explosive devices. The hazardous items were discovered in the Sumy, Okhtyrka, Konotop, Romny and Shostka region.
Chernihiv oblast
On 7 Desember russian army attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast.
Semenivka community:
Hremiachka: 2 explosions (1 – probably by 120mm mortar; 1 – probably by FPV-drone)
Medvedivka: 5 explosions (probably by MLRS)
Tymonovychi: 2 explosions (probably by 120mm mortar).
Bleshnia: 2 explosions (probably by artillery).
Snovsk community:
Huta Studenetska: 3 explosions (probably explosive devices dropped from UAVs).
According to Chernihiv Regional Police, police, together with local authorities, facilitated the evacuation of elderly residents from a border village in Chernihiv oblast. Due to constant russian shelling, life near the border became unbearable for the elderly. The police organized the evacuation and successfully transported them to a safe area
Honcharivka community and Snovsk City Council reported that on 16 December, Chernihiv oblast paid tribute to two Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen, Denys Pechornyi and Roman Hlomozda.

Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, reported that last evening and night, russian forces shelled Nikopol region by artillery and a kamikaze drone. The attacks targeted the regional centre, Pokrov and Marhanets communities. Throughout the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region around 15 times, by artillery and kamikaze drones. A 57-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised in serious condition. The attacks targeted the regional centre, Pokrov, Myrove and Marhanets communities. The strikes caused a fire and damaged businesses, 3 private houses, 2 outbuildings, vehicles, infrastructure and power lines.
Vinnytsia oblast
According to Vinnytsia City Council, Lyceum №4 purchased a vehicle for the soldiers of the 10th Motorised Infantry Battalion of the 59th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk.
Kirovohrad oblast
A rehabilitation module was opened in Kropyvnytskyi. Veterans, their families and civilians affected by the war can receive free rehabilitation support.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, informed that during the night, defenders in Cherkasy oblast shot down 14 Shahed drones. Fragments of russian UAVs damaged power lines.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Yesterday, russian forces launched 201 strikes on 11 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy conducted three airstrikes targeting Huliaipole and Novodarivka, while 112 drones of various types attacked Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Temyrivka, Malynivka, Novodarivka, and Olhivske. MLRS targeted Mala Tokmachka, and 85 artillery strikes hit the areas of Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Malynivka, Novodarivka, and Olhivske. There were two reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, but no civilian casualties.
It is reported that the enemy continues personnel rotationstowards Huliaipole and Orikhiv, occasionally moving forces closer to the frontlines. russian forces also persist with engineering and aerial reconnaissance activities.
More than 1,300 private houses and 350 apartment buildings were damaged in Zaporizhzhia by russian guided aerial bombs (KABs) over the past three months. According to Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, since September 22, russia has intensified its attacks on the region using various types of weaponry, including KABs. Restoration work is ongoing: utility workers have covered over 90% of damaged windows in private and apartment buildings with OSB boards and are repairing roofs. The regional and municipal authorities also developed eight assistance packages for residents whose homes were damaged by the strikes.
Mykolaiv oblast
As a result of yesterday’s attack on Mykolaiv using Shahed 131/136″drones, two men aged 50 and 53 were injured. As of this morning, they are in the hospital in stable, moderate condition.
On 15 December, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community three times with FPV drones. There were no casualties.
Mykolaiv oblast remains one of the most heavily mined areas in Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the State Emergency Service’s pyrotechnic units removed and destroyed 27,237 explosive devices. They surveyed 11,039 hectares of territory, involving 12,382 pyrotechnics specialists and identifiers.
Odesa oblast
As of 6am on 16 December, seven enemy ships were present in the Mediterranean Sea, including four carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a combined volley capacity of up to 41 missiles. No enemy ships were detected in the Black Sea.Yesterday, there were no passages through the Kerch Strait in the interests of the russian federation.
Kherson oblast
Around 1pm, a drone strike in Antonivka injured an 82-year-old man, who suffered explosive trauma and a leg injury.
Earliertoday, at about 10am, russian troops dropped explosives from a drone on a store in Beryslav, killing a 53-year-old woman.
In the morning, Kherson was once again under attack. At 8:30am, a 60-year-old man was hospitalized with explosive trauma and shrapnel wounds to his leg.
Last night, around 10:30pm, a drone strike targeted the Central district of Kherson, injuring a 55-year-old man who suffered multiple injuries and is currently in the hospital in stable condition.
Yesterday, the russian forces shelled Antonivka, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Shyroka Balka, Tomyna Balka, Kachkarivka, Sadove, Komyshany, Prydniprovske, Olhivka, Zmiivka, Kizomys, Tomaryne, Monastyrske, Burhunka, Odradokamianka, Chornobaivka, Mykhailivka, Poniativka, Novoraisk, Veletenske, Lvove, Dudchany, Vesele, Kozatske, and Kherson City. Critical infrastructure, residential areas, and a bus were damaged. In total, two people were injured due to these attacks.
It is reported that russian forces unsuccessfully attempted to storm islands five times in the Dnipro direction. The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold and fortify their positions. Yesterday, the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine eliminated 64 occupiers, destroyed six vehicles, two mortars, two howitzers, a quad bike, and electronic warfare equipment. Key enemy positions, including three dugouts, ammunition storage sites, a fuel and lubricants storage site, a UAV launch site, five observation posts, and a firing positions were also targeted.
In humanitarian efforts, police and the “Save Ukraine” organization evacuated a mother and son from heavily shelled Komyshany to a safe location. The family is now en route to Kyiv, where they will receive necessary assistance.

Lviv City Hall sent 458 different drones, namely, FPV 7ʼʼ/10ʼʼ/15ʼʼ, Mavic 3/3T, as well as 2 unmanned aerial systems worth UAH 10.7m to the military as part of the Lion’s Revenge initiative.
The Military Medical Rehabilitation Center NextStep Ukraine has been operating in Lviv oblast for a year. During this time, 110 military personnel and veterans who received various types of injuries underwent comprehensive rehabilitation at the facility.
A memorial plaque in memory of Ivan Vovchanskyi, sniper of the mechanized division of the Military Unit A0221, was installed on the facade of the school in the village of Vovche, Turkiv community, Sambir region. The serviceman was killed near the settlement of Lyman Pershyi, Kharkiv oblast.

In the morning, during an air Alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces destroyed 3 enemy UAVs of the Shahed type. There were no injuries, killed or property damage.
In the afternoon, during another air alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces shot down 1 enemy UAV of the Shahed type. The places where the debris fell are being established. There were no injuries, killed or property damage.
Khmelnytskyi community sent 6 EW devices worth UAH 1.25m to the Defense Forces from the budget funds. Since the beginning of 2024, the community has already sent almost 180 electronic devices and electronic devices, almost 6 800 FPV drones and over 610 UAVs.
Khmelnytskyi City Council approved amendments to the budget for 2024. UAH 25m were added to communal enterprises for the passage of the autumn-winter period.
Chernivtsi oblast

Norway allocates $242m to strengthen the maritime defense of Ukraine. The funds will go to the protection of the civilian population, demining, military training and countering attacks in the Black Sea.
The EU introduced the 15th sanctions package against russia. It contains restrictions against 54 individuals and 30 legal entities – including two high-ranking officials from China.
