It has been the 1176 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The Defense Forces of Ukraine are holding back the advance of Russian occupiers and taking measures to prevent the enemy from progressing deeper into Ukrainian territory. So far, there have been 83 combat engagements.

Communities in the settlements of Serhiivske in Chernihiv region, and Porozok, Slavgorod, Stepok, Dmytrivka, and Khliborob in Sumy region have suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian units repelled an enemy attack in the Kharkiv direction, near Vovchansk; another battle in the area is currently ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces are repelling an assault near Hlushkivka.

In the Lyman direction, the invading army launched 16 attacks throughout the day on the positions of our troops near Nova Kruglyakivka, Lozova, Novoiehorivka, Hrekivka, Kolodiazi, Yampolivka, and in the direction of Hryhorivka. Two of these battles are still ongoing.

Enemy troops are probing for weak spots in our defense near Bilohorivka in the Siversk direction. Two enemy attacks have been successfully repelled.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the occupiers attempted seven advances toward Ukrainian positions near Chasiv Yar, Hryhorivka, Bila Hora, and Kurdiumivka. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.

In the Toretsk direction, our defenders repelled 15 enemy assaults. The enemy attempted to advance in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, and Diliivka.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian occupiers made 22 attempts to dislodge our defenders from their positions near the settlements of Stara Mykolaivka, Yelyzavetivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Kotliarivka, and Andriivka. The Defense Forces are holding back the pressure and have repelled 20 enemy attacks; two battles are still ongoing. Airstrikes with guided aerial bombs (KABs) targeted Pokrovsk, Filiia, Zvirove, and Dachne.

In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted eight breakthroughs of our defenses near the settlements of Bahatyr, Novopil, and Vilne Pole. Four combat engagements are still ongoing. Novopil was hit by an airstrike.

In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy launched airstrikes with unguided aerial rockets on Huliaipole and Vysoke.

In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders repelled two enemy assaults near Stepove.

In the Prydniprovske direction, the occupiers made one attempt to advance on Ukrainian positions and were repelled.

In the Kursk direction, there have been three combat engagements since the beginning of the day, two of which are still ongoing. Additionally, the enemy conducted four airstrikes, dropping three guided bombs, and carried out 140 artillery attacks.

In other directions — no significant changes.

In Kyiv, the latest Ukrainian weapons were presented: strike drones, ground robotic platforms, and self-propelled artillery systems.
Among them was the UAV “Bulava,” developed by the Ukrainian-Czech company UAC. The drone is equipped with a powerful cumulative-thermobaric warhead weighing 3.6 kg and can strike targets within a 60-kilometer radius. The NRC “TerMIT” is a robotic platform with a payload capacity of up to 300 kg and a range of up to 20 kilometers. It can travel at speeds up to 10 km/h. Ukrainian soldiers are already actively using it on the frontlines, equipped with heavy machine guns. The “FP-1” strike drone has repeatedly caused panic in Russian media. Precise specifications are not publicly available. The display states that the FP-1 strikes targets at strategic depths. The drone carries a warhead weighing up to 120 kg and has a range of up to 1,600 km.

Also showcased was a model of the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system “Bohdana,” capable of destroying targets at distances of up to 42 kilometers.

In 2024, Ukraine produced $9 billion worth of weapons, significantly increasing missile production. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently instructed the maximum acceleration of the development of a Ukrainian ballistic missile, calling it an important guarantee of security.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline
Over the past day, 163 combat engagements were recorded. According to the Regional Military Administration (RMA), in the Kharkiv direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions four times near the settlements of Vovchansk, Topoli, and Petrivka. In the Kupiansk direction, there were two enemy attacks. Defense Forces repelled assault operations near Pishchane and Zahryzove.

Shelling
During the past day, eight settlements in the Kharkiv region and the city of Kharkiv were targeted by enemy strikes.

As a result of the shelling in the village of Nechvolodivka, Kindrashivska community, an 80-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were killed. Additionally, women aged 88, 83, and 67, and a 69-year-old man were injured. In the city of Kupiansk, a 56-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were wounded. In the village of Staryi Saltiv, two men aged 63 and 35 were injured. In the village of Ruski Tyshky, Tsyrkunivska community, a 51-year-old man was wounded. In the village of Oleksandrivka, Blyzniukivska community, a 90-year-old woman and two men aged 54 and 49 were injured.

The enemy struck the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv with two “Molniya”-type UAVs.

Various types of weapons were used against Kharkiv region:
▪️ 7 guided aerial bombs (KABs);
▪️ 3 “Molniya” UAVs;
▪️ 2 “Geran-2” UAVs;
▪️ 1 “Lancet” UAV;
▪️ 3 FPV drones.

Damage to civilian infrastructure:

  • In Kupiansk district: 2 private houses, 2 apartment buildings, and 2 vehicles were damaged.

  • In Chuhuiv district: 2 vehicles and an excavator were damaged.

  • In Kharkiv district: power lines and a private house were damaged.

  • In Bohodukhiv district: a cargo truck was damaged.

Other

In the Kupiansk community, over 5,000 people are subject to evacuation. In the left-bank area, which is closer to the enemy, 98 people remain. On the right bank, there are 1,600 residents.

In the town of Blyzniuky, construction is underway on a modern protective shelter for the local lyceum. The shelter is designed to accommodate 400 people and has an area of over 1,200 m². Additionally, a shelter for 300 people is being built for the Samiylivka Lyceum.

Three more new protective structures are under construction in cooperation with the Conflict and Development Foundation and with support from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Each is designed for 200 people:

  • at the Dobrovilsky Lyceum – with a budget of UAH 94.2 million,

  • at the Kryshtopivsky Lyceum – UAH 95.8 million,

  • and at the “Teremok” preschool in the town of Blyzniuky – UAH 115.6 million.

Completion is planned by March 2026.

Donetsk oblast

Shelling

Over the past day, police recorded 2,631 enemy attacks along the front line and on residential areas. Russian forces attacked 9 populated areas. A total of 65 civilian objects were damaged, including 61 residential buildings.

Berestok was shelled by the Russians using a “Smerch” multiple launch rocket system – two people were killed, an apartment building and eight private houses were damaged.

In Pokrovsk, three civilians were injured as a result of enemy shelling, and two homes were destroyed.

The occupiers struck Novoeconomichne with a “KAB-250” aerial bomb – one person was wounded and a private house was damaged.

In Illinivka, a civilian was injured by a drone strike.

Russia dropped a “KAB-250” aerial bomb on Vasyutynske – one person was injured, and six private houses and vehicles were damaged.

In the village of Zolotyi Kolodiaz, a civilian was injured during shelling by the occupying forces.

 

Luhansk oblast

Russian forces launched 32 assault attempts over the past day in the Lyman and Siversk sectors, according to the Regional Military Administration. Ukrainian troops continue to hold defensive lines in these areas. The occupiers carried out two airstrikes along this section of the frontline and opened artillery fire five times. The enemy also attempted to complete combat missions using 231 unmanned aerial vehicles.

In the so-called “LPR,” plans are underway to strengthen cooperation with the “Yunarmiya” – a Russian youth movement focused on militarization and military training of children and teenagers. A corresponding agreement was signed by the occupation administration of the region. Currently, 102 Yunarmiya units operate in 24 administrative-territorial units of the Russian-occupied territory of the oblast, involving more than 6,000 children in propaganda activities.

In Rubizhne, the quality and scope of repairs are nowhere near the showcase reconstruction projects in neighboring Sievierodonetsk. In Rubizhne, several apartment buildings have stood for a long time with dismantled roofs. Contractors once carried out demolition work and then disappeared.

 

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The State Emergency Service reported that in Kyiv oblast on 14 May, during repair works, water utility workers encountered a 120mm ‘Nona’ mortar shell. A similar shell was discovered by forestry workers during a patrol of the area on 13 May in Bucha region. Sappers identified, removed, and transported the munitions to a designated disposal site.

The Regional Military Administration informed that in Irpin, another residential building has undergone major repairs and is now operational. The building is part of ‘Irpinski Lypky’ complex, located at 11th Liniya Street, 4. The renovation work lasted from June 2023 to April 2025. The project was implemented with the support of the state platform UNITED24.

In Kyiv oblast, more than 30,800 objects have been damaged due to russia’s full-scale war. Thanks to international support and state programs, over 20,300 of them have already been restored.

Recently, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard held self-defence training sessions in Kyiv. At KNEU sports complex, two groups of participants—both experienced and beginners—received knowledge and practical self-defence techniques from professional trainer Viktor Kraievskyi. The self-defence course for women will last six months.

The first football tournament among veterans of military intelligence took place in the capital, dedicated to Maxim Vilchynskyi, a fighter from the active operations unit of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, known by the call sign ‘Artan’.

In Kyiv, an exhibition titled ‘Weapons in Service of the People’ is being held to mark the Day of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. This is a joint project by Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the State Special Communications Service.

 

Zhytomyr oblast

In Zhytomyr, the ‘Veterans’ Entrepreneurship Academy’ project has been launched to help veterans and families of fallen service members start their own businesses, reported the city council. The training will include nine practical sessions for those looking to rebuild their lives after the frontline. 

The Regional Military Administration reported that in Zhytomyr oblast, on 17–18 May, a training course will be held to prepare civilians for national resistance. Participants will be able to practice military-patriotic training, physical and mental resilience, and learn the basics of tactical medicine, firearms training, and UAV operation. Registration for participation is open until 15 May.

 

Sumy oblast

SBGSU reported that towards Sumy, FPV-drone operators from the ‘Steel Border’ brigade of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine destroyed three shelters housing occupying forces and an ammunition depot, inflicting significant losses on russian forces.

Fighters from the 47th Separate Mechanised Brigade ‘Magura’ of the Ukrainian Ground Forces destroyed a concealed russian reconnaissance position in towards Sumy.

Sumy City Council informed that on 14 May, russian forces carried out a missile strike on an industrial infrastructure facility in Sumy. As a result, two people were killed and nine others were injured. Three of the injured are in critical condition. Due to the russian attack, one industrial building was destroyed, and two others were damaged.

According to the State Emergency Service, two people were injured in Bilopillia community following a strike by enemy guided aerial bombs. A man and a woman have been hospitalised. Firefighters are working at the site of impact.

Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that on 14 May, russian forces struck a lorry carrying a water tank by a drone in Terny village, Nedryhailiv community. At the time of the strike, the driver was collecting water from a borehole. He was hospitalised with multiple injuries.

Stetskivka City Military Administration informed that in the morning of 14 May, russian forces struck a lorry near Stetskivka by a drone. As a result of the attack, one person was killed and two others were injured.

At 4am. on 14 May, russian forces struck Vorozhba by guided aerial bombs. As a result of the attack, critical infrastructure facilities, residential buildings, a shop, and utility structures were damaged or destroyed.

During the night, russian forces struck  Bilopillia by ‘Shahed’ drones. According to Mayor Yurii Zarko, several apartment buildings were damaged. There were no casualties or injuries.

Northern Forestry Office branch of the State Enterprise ‘Forests of Ukraine’ reported that during the night of 14 May, russian forces attacked Krolevets by ‘Geran-2’ strike drones. Seven hits were recorded on the territory of Konotop forestry. As a result of the shelling, a garage facility with eight storage units caught fire. Fourteen administrative buildings were damaged, along with three residential houses where forestry workers live, and five vehicles.

The Regional Military Administration informed that from the morning of 13 May to the morning of 14 May, russian forces carried out nearly 140 attacks on 36 settlements across 16 territorial communities in the oblast. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (nearly 20 strikes), FPV-drones (10 strikes), and UAV-dropped fragmentation munitions (nearly 30 strikes). The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions.

In Sumy oblast, russian shelling over the past day damaged and destroyed civilian infrastructure:

  • Richky community: residential buildings damaged.
  • Sumy community: residential buildings and a cargo truck damaged.
  • Bilopillia community: an apartment building, private houses, a garage, non-residential premises, and a vehicle damaged.
  • Vorozhba community: five private houses and non-residential buildings damaged.
  • Bezdrik community: a cargo truck caught fire.
  • Velyka Pysarivka community: private houses damaged.
  • Krolevets community: non-residential premises and private houses damaged.

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organisations from border communities, evacuated 622 people.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that on 13 May, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (33 strikes) and barrel artillery attacks (4 strikes), launched FPV-drones (11 strikes), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (13 strikes). A total of 14 settlements came under enemy fire.

In Chernihiv, 27 residents of apartment buildings damaged by a russian drone attack on 15 March will receive one-time financial assistance. This decision was made by the executive committee of the Chernihiv City Council. The total amount of payments is UAH 300,000.

COLLAR company informed that in Chernihiv veteran space ‘Sertsevir,’ rehabilitation sessions are conducted with a dog named Lilu. Lilu is a Cane Corso, specially selected and trained according to the Canadian system for canine therapy.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Enemy attacks in Nikopol region do not stop. In the evening, the occupiers attacked Mirove community with a drone. In the morning, they began to attack Nikopol itself and the Marganets community. They attacked mainly with kamikaze drones. They also fired from artillery. In the region centre, 7 shops, a sports club, a swimming pool, 2 high-rise buildings, a laboratory and a power line were damaged by drone strikes. 

The enemy attacked two regions of the region, Nikopol and Sinelnykivka. The occupants attacked Nikopol region about two dozen times. They targeted the region centre, Marhanets, Myrove, Pokrovsk and Chervonohryhorika communities. They used drones and artillery. In Nikopol, a 67-year-old woman was injured in a drone strike on a high-rise building. She received all the necessary medical care. In general, administrative buildings, a private house, an apartment building, a sports club and infrastructure were damaged in the area. The enemy attacked Velykomykhailivka community in Sinelnykivka region with multiple rocket launchers. A fire broke out and private houses were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​It became known that four defenders from Vinnytsia oblast were killed. In particular, Volodymyr Melnyk, Dmytro Bakusa, Oleksiy Ishchuk and Oleksandr Boyko.

The father of the deceased defender Yaroslav Kolisnyk from Vinnytsia oblast donated a car for the needs of the military of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi border guard detachment. Anatoliy bought the SUV at his own expense.  The car will be used by border guards for combat missions on the front line. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Andriy Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RvMA, reported that at night, Kirovohrad oblast experienced a massive drone attack. In Kropyvnytskyi region, some of the drones were shot down by air defence. There were no casualties. This was reported by the head of the JFO,.

Poltava oblast

A serviceman from Poltava oblast, Oleksandr Naumenko, was killed in Kharkiv oblast. On 7 October 2023, he was reported missing while performing a combat mission towards Kupiansk. On 4 December 2024, Oleksandr Naumenko was declared dead by Lokhvytsia District Court, and recently DNA testing confirmed the soldier’s death. 

Poltava City Council plans to adopt a decision on the payment of financial assistance to victims of shelling by the russian federation on the territory of the community. This applies, in particular, to those whose homes were destroyed or damaged. All applications were submitted after the massive drone attack that took place in Poltava on the night of 23 April. The total amount is over UAH 2 million.

Pyriatyn plans to create an Alley of Glory, a place to commemorate the fallen soldiers during the russian-Ukrainian war. The community has announced a competition for the design of the space. Everyone is invited to participate, and the winner will be chosen by the relatives of the fallen soldiers.

Poltava Regional State Administration reported that the government has allocated more than UAH 170 million for the construction and reconstruction of shelters in five educational institutions in Poltava oblast. This was done as part of an investment project to create safe conditions.  

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that the Air Armed forces in Cherkasy oblast destroyed one Shahed. There were no casualties.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday, the occupiers launched 457 strikes on 14 populated areas in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces launched 28 airstrikes on Kamianske, Pavlivka, Huliaipole, Chervone, Malynivka, Temyrivka, Novodarivka, and Novoivanivka. 249 UAVs of various types attacked Kushuhum, Prymorske, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Four MLRS attacks hit Kamianske, Mala Tokmachka, and Novodanylivka. 176 artillery strikes were carried out on the territories of Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Eleven reports were received about damage to private houses, apartments, and cars. A 72-year-old man was injured as a result of an enemy attack in Vasylivka region.

According to the General Staff as of 4:00 pm on 14 May, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy assaults in the area of Stepove towards Orikhiv. On 13 May, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three russian attacks in this direction.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 13 May, the enemy twice attacked Halytsynove community with strike drones, the types of which are being identified. As a result of one of the strikes in the village of Lupareve, a building on the grounds of a medical facility was damaged, and a dry grass fire broke out.

Also yesterday, 13 May, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community four times with FPV drones and the city of Ochakiv once. There were no casualties.

Odesa oblast

On the evening of 13 May, russian forces attacked Odesa oblast with a ballistic missile, likely an Iskander-M, launched from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.

As of 6:00 am on 14 May, 3 enemy ships were stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, including 1 carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 8 missiles.

Over the past day, 3 vessels passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in russia’s interests, while 3 more ships entered the Sea of Azov.

Kherson oblast

This morning, a local woman was attacked by a russian drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. The 51-year-old woman sustained a blast injury and a fractured shin.

Around 7:00 am, russian occupying forces dropped an explosive from a UAV on a civilian car in Bilozerka. As a result of the attack, a 49-year-old man sustained a blast injury and a concussion, as well as multiple shrapnel wounds to his face, arms, torso, and thigh.

In Beryslav, a local woman was injured by a russian landmine. The 68-year-old woman stepped on a “petal” antipersonnel mine. The explosion caused a blast injury and traumatic amputation of her foot.

A resident of Shyroka Balka sought medical help after being injured in a russian shelling on 12 May. The 71-year-old man suffered a blast injury and a concussion.

On 13 May, russian forces attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Molodizhne, Sadove, Oleksandrivka, Stanislav, Bilozerka, Nezlamne, Dniprovske, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, Novovorontsovka, Osokorivka, Burhunka, and Mykhailivka. As a result of the shelling, four apartment buildings and five private houses, a cell tower, two police service vehicles, a leisure center building, two warehouses, and a summer kitchen were damaged. Four people were injured due to russian aggression.

The Defense Forces repelled five enemy attempts to advance in the Prydniprovske direction. Over the past day, the enemy’s losses amounted to 114 personnel, 2 engineering and air defense installations, 8 artillery systems, 25 units of motor and armored vehicles, 8 UAVs (Zala, Orlan-10, Supercar), 2 electronic warfare stations, 6 motorcycles, 1 quad bike, 2 generators, 8 UAV antennas, 6 communication antennas, 3 Starlink antennas, and 2 storage sites for ammunition. Additionally, 92 shelters, 1 observation post, and 1 checkpoint were destroyed.

New stands and posters of “military-patriotic themes” appeared in several kindergartens in Henichesk, Skadovsk, and Nova Kakhovka. Activists from the “Yellow Ribbon” movement received information that this was an order from the local occupation administration, which instructed that the decoration must match the “spirit” of the russian federation.

A nurse from Kherson received a national award at the International Congress of Nurses. Iryna Meshcheriak, a nurse anesthetist at the Kherson Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, became a laureate in the “Nurse — Open Arms” category.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

 A charity concert dedicated to Mother’s Day was held in the center of Kovel. During the concert, the audience donated UAH 17,000 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that a double degree program has been launched between Uzhhorod National University and the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 20 FPV drones to the 14th brigade.

Lviv oblast

Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk Philharmonics have signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document consolidates the partnership agreements between the two cultural institutions, which are designed to promote the exchange of experience, joint projects, and the popularization of Ukrainian art.

The President of Ukraine awarded Major Mykola Kobilnyk, defender from Lviv oblast, with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 1st degree. He defended Ukraine back in 2014.

Rivne oblast

On the night of 14 May, the russian army attacked Rivne oblast from the air. The Air Defense Forces managed to shoot down four enemy air targets. As a result of the russian attack, 2 people were injured, and there was minor damage to civilian infrastructure. The relevant services are working at the scene of the crash.

Ternopil oblast

This night, Ternopil oblast experienced another massive enemy drone attack. 12 attack drones were recorded in the oblast. 2 enemy targets were destroyed by the Air Defense Forces in Kremenets region. There were no casualties or deaths. According to operational information, minor damage was recorded to several private households and a non-residential building in one of the villages of Shum community.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that 57 family members of fallen Heroes for UAH 1.1m million.

Chernivtsi oblast

Within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Chernivtsi RMA, the implementation of a large-scale energy project has begun. Its goal is to develop the fuel and energy complex and social infrastructure of settlements in Chernivtsi oblast.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, announced tha ambassadors of the European Union member states have agreed on a 17th package of sanctions against russia.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, who also serves as the National Security Advisor to the US President. The parties agreed to maintain an ongoing dialogue to coordinate joint actions and agree on positions ahead of important international events.
