War in Ukraine today: latest news, 10 June, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 838 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The enemy is looking for ways to break into our defences and try to push Ukrainian units from the held positions. The number of combat engagements along the entire frontline increased to 66.

In the afternoon, the invaders continued to terrorise Kharkiv oblast by airstrikes from their territory. Specifically, from belgorod (russia), the aggressor launched two strikes with twelve UAVs at Ternove. During the day, the enemy unsuccessfully tried to attack three times near Vovchansk and Hlyboke.

Towards Kupiansk, the Defence Forces repelled 8 enemy attacks. Two combat engagements are still ongoing. Near Stepova Novoselivka, russian aviation launched two attacks with 6 UAVs. As of this time, according to preliminary data, the invaders’ losses in this area amounted to: 62 killed and injured, three tanks, one armoured combat vehicle and one vehicle destroyed.

Towards Lyman, all 9 enemy assault attempts were unsuccessful. Ukrainian troops are controlling the situation.

Towards Siversk, the enemy attacked the Defence Forces 4 times near Spirne, Ivano-Darivka and Verkhnokamianka. The attacks were unsuccessful.  

Towards Kramatorsk, since the beginning of the day, russian troops have tried to push our units from their positions five times. Ukrainian troops repelled three assaults near Klishchiivka and Andriivka.  Two more attacks are ongoing near Nove and Ivanivske.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian defenders 20 times since the beginning of the day near Yevhenivka, Novooleksandrivka, Novopokrovske, Karlivka, Yasnobrodivka and Umanske. 17 assaults were unsuccessful. Three more hostile attacks are ongoing.

In other areas, the situation did not change significantly.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that 42 power units were destroyed, 27% of large thermal power plants remain in operation, 73% were destroyed or damaged, and 20 hydropower units are currently out of operation. This is another 1.3GW of capacity. The Cabinet of Ministers is currently working to restore the power grid so that we can have as much generation as possible by winter. Specifically, it is working on protecting and increasing imports from the EU.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded 174 civilian deaths due to the war in Ukraine in May 2024. Another 690 people were injured. The report says this is the highest number of casualties since June 2023. The number of civilian deaths increased by 31% compared to April 2024. The increase in the number of victims is due to shelling in Kharkiv oblast and the beginning of the russian offensive in the oblast on 10 May. The attacks in the oblast accounted for 53% of the total number of casualties in the month.

Andrii Kovalov, Spokesman of the General Staff of Ukraine, informed that the invaders launched 21,000 attacks, including about 733 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems, 15 missile attacks and 431 air strikes, including 367 guided aerial bombs.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, reported that at 5:35pm, the invaders attacked Kharkiv. A 75-year-old man was rescued from the rubble of a private house at the site of the bombing. In total, 8 people, 5 men and 3 women, were injured as a result of the shelling with KABs in Kyivskyi and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv. 70 garages and 22 cars were damaged. One of the munitions did not explode, so people are temporarily displaced from their homes for detonation.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 3pm, during the day, russian troops attacked Vovchansk with four guided missiles and four more in Tykhe.

The enemy launched one airstrike each in Starytsia and Liptsy. Also russians tried to storm Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, russia is also using aircraft. According to the General Staff, the russian military attacked Synkivka by 16 unguided aerial missiles. Since the beginning of the day, there were 7 combat engagements in this area, and fighting continues near Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane and Berestove.

At 9:30am, the invaders attacked Derhachi community. One civilian was killed and two injured. According to preliminary information, the enemy used an unexploded ordnance.

At 1:52am, a woman was injured in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi as a result of hostile shelling.

The regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the 41-year-old volunteer, who was evacuating animals from Vovchansk, sustained an explosive injury as a result of a strike on the city on 9 June.

At 5:13pm, the invaders attacked Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv. The shelling damaged houses and a private car.

At 3:59am, the invaders attacked Zolochiv settlement of Zolochiv community, Bohodukhiv region. As a result of the shelling of a private enterprise, a car was on fire.

At 9:03pm, the invaders attacked Cherkaski Tyshky village of Tsyrkuny community, Kharkiv region. A private house was burning as a result of the shelling.

At 9:56am, the invaders attacked Bilyi Kolodiaz village, Chuhuivregion. The territory of a private enterprise. The elevator building was partially damaged as a result of shelling by the KAB.

Towards Kharkiv, there were 5 combat engagements without any success for the enemy. The invaders continued their attempts to attack our units near Vovchansk, Lyptsi and west of Hlyboke.

The situation did not change significantly towards Kupiansk and Lyman. The enemy’s assault operations were unsuccessful and the situation is under control. Two hostile attacks continue near Pishchane and Hrekivka. Exactly a month ago, the invaders made a second attempt to launch an offensive in the north of Kharkiv oblast. The defence forces stopped the enemy and the russians’ plans failed.

In the north of the oblast, the enemy is regrouping and gathering reserves. Fighting, even though it is less intense, continues every day. In Vovchansk, our fighters are trying to take a more favourable tactical position.

Towards Kupiansk, the troops are also actively defending themselves.

At the same time, the intensity of rocket attacks in Kharkiv has actually decreased. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a number of decisions would be made to protect Kharkiv and the oblast.

315 people with reduced mobility have already been moved from specialised institutions to similar facilities, but in safer locations. 192 people have been evacuated outside Kharkiv oblast. 105 out of 125 children have also been taken to safe places. A total of 11729 people have been evacuated.

Donetsk oblast

According to the morning report of the General Staff, the situation is tense towards Kurakhove. Since the beginning of the day, the russian army has stormed the positions of the Defence Forces 10 times in this area of the frontline, Ukrainian troops repelled 9 attacks, and another battle is ongoing near Kostiantynivka village.

Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, stated that russian invaders did not cross the canal near Chasiv Yar, which divides the front line in that direction. Their statements about the alleged capture of a large territory are not true.

The press service of Donetsk police informed that the enemy made 2307 attacks in the oblast over the day.

The russian army shelled 7 settlements: Novohrodivka, Chasiv Yar cities, Kurakhivka settlement, Zhuravka, Novomykolaivka, Oleksandropil and Orlivka villages.

10 residential buildings were destroyed.  

The russian army killed a civilian and damaged a private house in Chasiv Yar.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that since the end of April, the amount of compensation for destroyed and damaged housing paid to residents of Donetsk oblast under the yeVidnovlennia programme has almost doubled.

Iryna Bonziukh, Director of the City’s Social Protection Department, said that since the beginning of the year, more than 2,500 people have used evacuation trains running from Pokrovsk. Currently, there is a daily train to Lviv with an evacuation carriage and a train to Rivne oblast, which started running on 3 June.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, russians attacked 6 times near Hrekivka. Our military also stopped the enemy near Nevske.

The enemy is actively using aviation. Specifically, yesterday they hit Novoiehorivka and Serebrianka forest by guided aerial bombs.

Nevske, Kuzemivka, Makiivka and Stelmakhivka were shelled by mortars and cannon artillery. Nevske and Kuzemivka were also shelled by multiple rocket launchers.

The occupation administration of the so-called Starobilsk municipal district wants to invite specialists in housing and communal services, agricultural development, youth work, public relations, internal policy, etc.

The collaborators assure us that there is no point in raising the issue of mobile phone connection in Rubizhne this year, maybe in 2025. They advise to develop wired communication. The promises continue.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the report by Kyiv City Council, a sporting, psychological and rehabilitation event “Hero, we need you not only on the battlefield” was held in the capital to provide comprehensive support to veterans, participants of the Revolution of Dignity, participants of the russian-Ukrainian war and their families.  During the event, a new record was set: a 207-metre-long flag of Ukraine was unfurled over the Dnipro River.

Zhytomyr oblast

The GRANIT RACE 2024 Open Championship of Zhytomyr oblast and the Ukrainian Running Cup stage took place near Novohorodetske village in Zhytomyr oblast. The competitions were dedicated to the memory of Oleksandr Tepenchak, a defender of Ukraine from Korostyshiv.

Sumy oblast

At night and in the morning, the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 15 times. 76 explosions were recorded. Mykolaivka, Myropillia, Khotin, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhyne, Druzhbivka and Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled. 

In Myropillia community, the enemy attacked with artillery, 3 explosions. Mykolaivka community was attacked by FPV drones, 7 explosions. 5 mines were dropped in Khotin community. Velyka Pysarivka community registered mortar attacks, 13 explosions. in Bilopillia community, the enemy used mortars, 1 explosion, and artillery, 7 explosions. in Shalyhyne community, mortar attack was carried out, 8 explosions. In Druzhbivka community, russians fired mortars, 15 explosions. in Krasnopillia community, artillery shelling was recorded, 10 explosions and mortars 5 explosions. in Seredyna-Buda community, an FPV drone attack was carried out, 2 explosions.

Iryna Yukhta, Acting Head of the community, reported that the russian military shelled a kindergarten in Krasnopillia with artillery in the morning. No one was injured.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, informed that as of today, nine people remain in Ryzhivka. These are the residents who do not want to leave. As for the village, the occupier tried to carry out a propaganda operation there. As of this morning, the russian flag in the village has been destroyed, and there is no occupant presence.

The russian subversive groups continue to be active in Sumy oblast, they are being destroyed and Ukrainian forces are controlling the situation.

Chernihiv oblast

According to the report of the ‘North’ Operational Command in Chernihiv oblast, 4 settlements of Semenivka, Snovsk and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities were under enemy attack. Medvedivka – 12 explosions, probably 120mm mortar, Bleshnia – 4 explosions, probably 120mm mortar, Khrinivka – 9 explosions, probably 120mm mortar and Buchky – 4 explosions, probably 152mm cannon artillery.

In Chernihiv oblast, volunteers raised UAH 120,000 in an online relay race to buy helmets and plate carriers for the Armed Forces.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Cherkasy RMA, said that Didivtsi  and Sukhopolova lyceums received a generator with a total capacity of 45kW. This technical replenishment was made possible through cooperation with the USAID GOVERLA Project. The equipment will ensure uninterrupted work and learning in the case of a power outage.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

In the evening, the occupiers shelled Marhanets community of Nikopol region with artillery. Pokrovsk community was attacked with a drone. A greenhouse and a boat were damaged. In the morning, the enemy launched 9 kamikaze drones at the area and fired from artillery. They hit the region’s centre and Myrove community. Private houses, two outbuildings, a garage, two gas pipelines and a power line were damaged. According to the updated data, a 44-year-old woman was injured in yesterday’s attacks. Her injuries are not critical, she will be treated at home. 

During the day, the occupiers fired 17 times in Nikopol region. They launched 13 kamikaze drones and fired from artillery. Nikopol, Marhanets and Myrove communities were shelled. In the region’s centre, a 45-year-old man was injured by an enemy drone attack. His injuries are not serious, he will be treated at home. A multi-storey building, an administrative building, a utility company, 6 private houses, 2 outbuildings, an infrastructure facility, cars, a minibus and a power line were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​A serviceman from Vinnytsia, Viktor ‘Tytan’ Torkotiuk, became a full cavalier of the order ‘For Courage’. The award was presented to him by the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov. Viktor Torkotiuk is the commander of the Artan Special Forces unit, a Special Forces unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

Kirovohrad oblast

According to  Snizhana Skorokhod, secretary of the executive committee of Dolyna City Council, a Memory Alley was set up in the town of Dolynska. The stands on the alley feature photographs and information about 77 community members who defended Ukraine in the war with russia, starting in 2014 and after the full-scale invasion in 2022. The alley was placed on the main street of the city.

Poltava oblast

In Poltava, the funeral of National Guard soldier Vadym Bakulai, who was killed in the war, was held. The soldier died as a result of an injury received in Luhansk oblast.

Soldier Oleksandr Pasichnyk was killed on 4 June as a result of rocket and artillery fire. It happened near Novooleksandrivka village, Donetsk oblast..

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, 140 children played symphonic music at the Flowers to the World charity festival.The event raised UAH 8,600 for an evacuation vehicle for military unit 4010.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday the occupiers launched 523 attacks on Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched airstrikes on Huliaipole, Robotyne and Lobkove. A total of 206 UAVs of various modifications attacked Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka. There were 20 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) attacks on Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, and Novoandriivka and 294 artillery strikes on the territories of Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne and Malynivka. Five reports of housing destruction were received.

On 8-9 June, the russian army attacked Sviatopetrivka, located in a frontline Huliaipole community, using FPV drones. As a result of the shelling, a local was injured.

It is reported that the occupiers attempted five assaults towards Orikhiv but were unsuccessful.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 9 June, at 4:15pm, the enemy carried out artillery shelling on Kutsurub community. There were no casualties.

Another humanitarian hub for the IDPs from Kherson oblast has opened in Mykolaiv. According to official data, nearly thirty-four thousand residents from Kherson oblast have relocated to this area. Internally displaced persons can receive humanitarian aid, legal and psychological support, and assistance with employment at this hub.

A new solar power station has started operating at the pumping station in Voznesensk. This is the third such facility installed at the enterprise. The station was purchased for 150,000 euros, co-financed with the GIZ charitable organisation. Currently, the installed solar panels meet 25% of the electricity needs, which in turn helps maintain the water tariff.

Odesa oblast

As of 6am on 10 June, there is one enemy ship in the Black Sea equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, capable of launching up to four missiles. There are eight enemy ships in the Sea of Azov, three of which carry Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to 24 missiles. And there are two carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to 12 missiles in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin, 21 massive attacks on port and agricultural infrastructure have been recorded in Odesa and the oblast, resulting in six deaths and 30 injuries. There are 248 criminal proceedings under investigation for the shelling of grain infrastructure and the seizure of other objects by the russian army, covering 432 episodes.

The drone attack on 22 April on theShabolat agricultural enterprise in Odesa oblast caused environmental damage worth UAH 1m. According to ecologists, the debris from the destruction contaminated a land area of 4,000 sq m..

Kherson oblast

This morning, russian troops shelled residential areas in Kherson. As a result of the shelling, a 102-year-old woman sustained blast injuries. She is currently in the hospital with blast trauma, shrapnel wounds to her torso and limbs.

Yesterday, Ivanivka, Oleksandrivka, Veletenske, Yantarne, Tomyna Balka, Molodetske, Beryslav, Dudchany, Osokorivka, Kachkarivka, Respublikanets, and the city of Kherson were under enemy shelling and airstrikes. Two private houses were damaged, and two people were injured due to russian aggression.

It is reported that the enemy made four unsuccessful assaults near the village of Krynky on the left bank of the Dnipro, in temporarily occupied Kherson oblast. Our fighters continue to carry out comprehensive measures to hold their positions.

Confirmed enemy losses over the past day amounted to 110 personnel and 35 pieces of weaponry and military equipment. Specifically, 14 artillery systems, 2 Grad MLRS, 1 air defence system, 11 armoured vehicles, 1 Pantsir-S1 missile and gun system, 1 surveillance camera, 3 UAVs, 2 boats, and 5 observation posts were destroyed.

Volunteer medics provided assistance to more than five hundred residents of Kochubeivka community. Family doctors, a neurologist, a cardiologist, an ophthalmologist, and an endocrinologist saw patients. If necessary, a complete blood count could be performed in the laboratory. The mobile clinic has now moved to Vysokopillia community.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent a Quertus AD G-6+, 11 REB Sinitsa 1, 3 REB Synytsia 3, 14 Mavic 3, 3 Mavic 3 FMC, 2 Mavic 3E, 10 Mavic 3T, 130 FPV drones, 3 HikMicro thermal sight and 80 batteries for Mavic to the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

Medical students of Uzhhorod National University will soon be able to do internships in hospitals in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Romania (in the partner regions of Zakarpattia oblast). Agreements on the internship of Zakarpattia students in leading foreign medical institutions were reached during the last visits of the leadership of the regional council to the above-mentioned countries.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Prykarpattia sent 3 Mavic to the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelveis; computer and household appliances and various inventory to Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Territorial Center for Completing and Social Support; computer equipment to the Radio Engineering Battalion of the Galicia-Volyn Radio Engineering Brigade of the West Air Command worth over UAH 600,000 thanks to the funds of the regional budget within the framework of the target program of providing chief assistance to the military formations of the oblast.

Lviv oblast

Arief Muhammad Basalamah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine, paid a visit to Lviv oblast on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Ukraine. During the meeting in the RMA, they discussed the further development of cooperation between the two countries: trade relations, educational programs and cultural initiatives.

Over the past seven days, volunteers of Medical and Psychological Assistance, who are on duty 24 hours a day at the Main Railway Station of Lviv, met 233 people who arrived from the frontline oblasts. Among them are 23 people with disabilities. Also, the oblast received many older people. IDPs mostly came from Pokrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Most often, people needed support, informational assistance and accommodation.

18 servicemen of the Western Operational-Territorial Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine were awarded with the III degree For Courage orders (posthumously). Relatives of defenders, parents, wives and children, were awarded.

Rivne oblast

The RMA held a meeting with heads of enterprises of Rivne oblast. They discussed working in conditions of electricity shortage.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council reported that the community sent 3 reconnaissance drones with a Mavic 3T thermal imaging camera to the 68th Separate Hunting Brigade.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the community sent 70 self-built FPV drones, DJI MAVIC 3T thermal imaging quadcopters, DJI MATRICE 30 T, AUTEL EVO PRO MAX and 2 electronic devices worth UAH 2.8m to the military.

Chernivtsi oblast

Health care institutions of the oblast received 3 MD4 Electric electric vehicles thanks to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as part of the Agreement on a grant of the Global Fund for Financing in the Project Strengthening the Health Care and Life Saving System (HEAL Ukraine) between Ukraine and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Bukovyna employers will receive over UAH 1.6m in compensation for setting up inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities. It is about compensation for 25 workplaces. They are created for people with disabilities of the 2nd group who work in the positions of clerks, managers, accountants, nurses, manicurists, and personnel inspectors. These workers have a general disease or damage to the musculoskeletal system.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Major General Mikko Heiskanen, Chief of Armaments of the Finnish Defense Forces, reported that within the framework of military aid, the country sent to Ukraine not only old weapons, but also the newest models of its weapons. According to the Finnish general, some of the equipment transferred to Ukraine is so new that it is still under development. As Heiskanen added, feedback on this weapon from the Ukrainian side is positive so far.

France invited about 10 countries to join the coalition of foreign instructors in Ukraine. Last week, letters were sent to the Baltic countries, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the US.

The Swiss government announced that about 90 countries and international organisations, half of which are European, have confirmed their participation in the summit on peace in Ukraine, which will be held in Switzerland on 15-16 June.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, stated that Ukraine is preparing new agreements with European partners, in particular with Germany, regarding additional steps of support.

Iraklii Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, will take part in the conference on the restoration of Ukraine (URC2024) in Berlin on 11-12 June, the purpose of which is to mobilise international support for the restoration, reconstruction, reforms and modernization of Ukraine.
