Border settlements towards Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts continue to suffer from cynical shelling from the territory of the russian federation. Artillery and mortar fire affected the vicinities of Basivka, Bleshni, Hai, Orikhivka, Progress, Bachivsk, Seredyna Buda, Popivka, and Karpovychi. Additionally, the russians launched seven airstrikes on Zarutske, Bilovody, and Yunakivka.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy attacked near Vovchansk, where one battle is still ongoing.
Towards Kupyansk, one engagement continues near Tabayivka.
Towards Lyman, the enemy launched seven assaults on the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Makiivka, Nevske, and Serebrianka forest. Six battles have concluded, with one still ongoing.
Towards Siversk, there were nine engagements throughout the day. The invaders attacked Bilohorivka, Verkhnokamianske, Spirne, and Vyimka. Ukrainian forces halted eight attacks and are currently repelling another near Verkhnokamianske.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy conducted five assaults near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. Four engagements concluded, and one is still ongoing.
Towards Toretsk, the occupiers increased their attacks to 12, advancing near Bila Hora, Diliivka, Niu-York, and Toretsk. Ten attacks were repelled, with two battles still ongoing. Additionally, the invaders launched eight airstrikes, dropping 16 guided bombs on Kostiantynivka and Toretsk.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian forces conducted assault operations in the vicinities of Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Zhelanne, Zelenyi Pole, and Yasnobrodivka. Ukrainian defenders are holding back the russian forces and have repelled 12 attacks, with seven engagements still ongoing. Enemy losses in this direction are being clarified. The enemy also launched five airstrikes on Hrodivka and Oleksandropol.
Towards Kurakhove, the invaders attacked three times near Paraskoviivka and Kostiantynivka. One battle is currently ongoing, and the situation is under the control of Ukrainian forces.
Towards Vremivka, the enemy, using aviation, struck with four guided bombs in the vicinities of Vuhledar and Vodyane. They also assaulted Ukrainian positions near Vodyane, and the battle is still ongoing.
Towards Orikhiv, the russians suffered a defeat while attacking the defensive lines of Ukrainian forces near Mala Tokmachka.
On other fronts, there were no significant changes.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announces that Ukraine has launched the Army+ app. The app will include courses and training programs. According to Kateryna Chernogorenko, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, as of August 6, about 3.3 million users have updated their data through the Reserve+ app. Among them, approximately 88,000 are currently abroad.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Viktor Zabashta, Head of the Emergency Medical Aid Centre, reported that in the afternoon, the enemy attacked Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv by a KAB. The building of one of the universities was damaged. The wounded 67-year-old man works as a security guard at the university. He has shrapnel wounds to the chest and thigh. His condition is of moderate severity. The man was hospitalised.
The RMA informed that at 6:20am, russians attacked Slobozhanske village of Lyptsi community, Kharkiv region. A 46-year-old man was injured as a result of the shelling.
At 2:30am, russians shelled Zolochiv of Bohodukhiv region. Private and apartment buildings and gas networks were damaged as a result of the shelling by multiple rocket launchers.
At 12:25am, russians shelled Kupiansk. A 44-year-old man was injured as a result of the shelling.
At 12:15am, russians targeted Borova of Izium region. The shelling destroyed one private house, damaged 3 private houses and one two-storey apartment building.
Yesterday at 11:03pm, russians shelled Kupiansk. A house was on fire as a result of the MRLs shelling. A 57-year-old woman, a 45-year-old and a 44-year-old man were injured.
At 11:03pm, russians attacked Kupiansk. As a result of the shelling, a 2-storey shop was on fire.
At 11pm, russians hit Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi village of Kupiansk community, Kupiansk region. The roof of a private house was on fire as a result of the shelling.
At 1:05, Rrussians attacked Pisky-Radkivski village of Borova community, Izium region. As a result of the shelling, coniferous litter burned over an area of 2 hectares.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy continued assault operations. There were 6 combat engagements near Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, there were 3 hostile attacks. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Petropavlivka and towards Hlushkivka.
The State Emergency Service reported on 8 August that their mployees were engaged in an emergency rescue operation in Kharkiv for a day and a half after a russian missile hit on 6 August. One person was reported killed and 12 injured as a result of a russian Iskander missile strike on downtown Kharkiv on 6 August.

Photo: the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv oblastThe Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine reported that UNHCR will provide one-time assistance to residents of three communities in Kharkiv oblast to buy firewood in preparation for winter. The communities in question are Dvorichna, Kupiansk and Vovchansk. It is planned that the assistance will be directed to households located within 10km of the contact line or the border with russia. The project provides for a one-off payment of UAH 21,000 to purchase solid domestic fuel for vulnerable households.
Donetsk oblast
At around 11am, the russian military attacked the shopping centre. The enemy used an X-38 missile. There could have been about 50 people in the supermarket that was hit by the russian military in Kostiantynivka.
The General Prosecutor’s Office reported that as of 5:26pm, at least 14 people have been killed and 43 injured as a result of the hostile shelling of Kostiantynivka. All emergency services are working at the site of the shelling. There may be people under the rubble. Residential buildings, shops, and more than a dozen cars were also damaged. Operational services like the State Emergency Service, the police and a paramedic unit are working at the scene.
The Nova Poshta company informed that as a result of the strike on Kostiantynivka, the russians damaged the cargo department. One employee sustained a concussion.
Once again russian troops struck Kostiantynivka, injuring two people. The attack was after an airstrike on a supermarket, using Smerch multiple rocket launchers.
Yesterday the enemy had carried out 2,872 strikes in the oblast. The police documented war crimes of the russian army. 10 settlements were under russian attack. 89 civilian objects were damaged.
The occupiers hit Kostiantynivka by a Grom E-1 rocket bomb and artillery, killing two civilians.
The russians dropped a FAB-500 bomb on Selydove, killing two people and injuring 11, including one child.
A civilian was injured in Niu-York as a result of artillery shelling.
Also russian troops hit Zoria bull with a KAB-250 bomb with an UMPK module. Seven apartment buildings and a boiler room were destroyed.
The enemy shelled Lyman with artillery and as a result, 5 houses and cars were damaged.
Luhansk oblast
According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, yesterday russians shelled the frontline Nevske and Makiivka with various types of artillery and used drones. They fired twice at Makiivka from a multiple launch rocket system. The enemy tried to break through the defences of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near these two settlements and in Serebrianka forest. These attempts were unsuccessful.
The invaders are gradually turning the de-occupied villages into ruins. In Makiivka, not a single house has survived. In Nevske, almost every household has suffered varying degrees of damage. Recently, the villagers’ houses have been burning almost every day. Yesterday, another such incident occurred in Nevske. A weekly supply of bread was delivered to Nevske and Novoliubivka and distributed to the people. None of them has decided to evacuate yet.
The invaders continue to destroy everything Ukrainian. In the occupied Bilovodsk, russians closed Petro Shevchenko (Bilivody) Museum in the school where the journalist and poet studied. It is said that the locals managed to hide the exhibits.
The residents of Luhansk, who remained under occupation, are outraged by the actions of those involved in the so-called “nationalisation” of real estate. Referring to the relevant “law”, they include in the list of squeezed housing those with accumulated utility bills. It is not uncommon for the list to include apartments and houses whose owners failed to pay their current bills on time for the previous month or two. Blackmail of the population continues.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, informed that at night the enemy attacked Kyiv oblast with drones once again. The alert was announced three times and lasted more than three hours. Air defence forces were on alert in the oblast. Enemy targets were shot down. Debris is falling outside of settlements. There were no casualties among the population.
The RMA reported that the construction and overhaul of shelters in educational institutions continues in Kyiv oblast. By the beginning of the school year, 8 shelters will be overhauled, and by the end of the year – 12 more. Work is underway on shelters in 107 educational institutions, including 25 overhauls. All current repairs are planned to be completed by the beginning of the school year.
According to the RMA, a solar power plant will be built at Chornobyl NPP. The first components for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant at the industrial site have already been delivered. The equipment was supplied by foreign partners as part of the humanitarian aid received by Ukraine.
A social and psychological rehabilitation event for Ukrainian soldiers was organised in Kyiv, including fishing, beach holidays, and a walk around Obolon Island and the Khvylшa Bridge. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko announced that he met and talked in the open air with the soldiers who are receiving treatment at the Medical Centre for Rehabilitation and Palliative Care and undergoing rehabilitation at the Askold Centre for Social, Psychological, Vocational and Labour Rehabilitation in Kyiv.
Irpin Museum of History and Local Lore in Kyiv oblast opened an exhibition in memory of the fallen Belarusian volunteers, With Ukraine in the Heart. According to Irpin City Council, the project features 25 banners with photos and stories of Belarusians who gave their lives for the independence and freedom of Ukraine and their homeland.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr Social Kitchen has already provided about 187,000 meals for internally displaced people in two years. The project of Caritas-Spes has expanded and started working not only in Zhytomyr, but also in other communities of oblast once a week. These meals are often accompanied by food packages so that people can cook their own dinner.
To date, 12 digital educational centres have been opened in the oblast, and in 2022-2023, four mobile educational teams worked with primary school students to help them learn Ukrainian and mathematics. The Department of Education and Science of Zhytomyr Regional State Administration, together with the UNICEF Children’s Fund, are actively working to ensure access to education for children in border areas or in areas where schools do not have their own shelters.
Sumy oblast
At night and in the morning, russians fired 21 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. There were 52 explosions. Khotin, Yunakivka, Miropillia, Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Hlukhiv, Esman, Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled.
On 8 August, russians fired 27 times at the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast. There were 79 explosions. Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Miropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Esman, Shostka, and Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled.
Krasnopillia community: the enemy fired from mortars (4 explosions).
Sumy community: enemy airstrikes (3 explosions). One local resident was wounded.
Yunakivka community: a UAV airstrike (9 explosions). As a result of the air strikes, 2 civilians died: a local resident and a child of 6 years old. In addition, a local resident sustained multiple injuries. The enemy also fired from artillery (3 explosions).
Esman community: russians dropped 28 mines on the territory of the community.
Nova Sloboda community: mortar attacks (4 explosions).
Khotyn community: a KAB airstrike (3 explosions) on the territory of the community. 4 civilians sustained explosive injuries.
Seredyna-Budska community: the enemy attacked with mortars (2 explosions).
Velyka Pysarivka community: shelling from a grenade launcher (6 explosions) and mortar (4 explosions) and FPV drone strikes (3 explosions).
Bilopillia community: an attack by FPV drones (4 explosions) and a UAV air strike (3 explosions).
Miropillia community: an air strike with a UAV (3 explosions).

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that on 8 August, the russian army attacked Khotin community in Sumy oblast with four guided aerial bombs.
Four people were injured.
The North Operational Command and the National Police report on the russian shelling of Sumy oblast killing two people, injuring six people, damaging three schools, 17 residential buildings, a post office, three private cars, and the business and administrative premises of an agricultural company.
There were 6 attacks with guided aerial bombs in Kyianytsia village of Yunakivka community. The shelling damaged a residential building.
In Pushkarivka village of Sumy community, there was 1 attack with a guided aerial bomb. The shelling injured one person and damaged 6 private houses.
There were 2 strikes with guided aerial bombs in Mohrytsia of Yunakivka community. The shelling killed two people and damaged the building of the educational institution.
There were 3 attacks with guided aerial bombs in Kindrativka of Khotin community. Four people were injured there.
Stetskivka of Sumy community was hit by two guided aerial bombs. The shelling damaged a building of an educational institution, 9 private houses and a hangar of an enterprise.
In Bachivsk of Esman community, a power line was damaged by mortar shelling.
The enemy has significantly increased the use of unmanned aerial vehicles along the border. However, the number of attacks with mortars, artillery, and multiple rocket launchers has decreased. According to Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, this is due to skilful actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which destroy firing points and ammunition depots.
Chernihiv oblast
During the day, russian troops attacked the border of Chernihiv region with various types of weapons. There were 33 explosions.
Semenivka community:
Orlykivka – 5 explosions, probably 122 mm artillery.
Karpovychi – 2 attacks: 10 explosions, probably 120 mm mortar.
Bleshnia – 2 attacks: 7 explosions, probably 122mm cannon artillery.
Snovska community:
Yeline – 2 explosions, probably 120mm mortar.
Horodnianka community:
Senkivka – 8 explosions, probably 120 mm mortar.
According to Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, instructed to allocate UAH 238m for the reconstruction of Yahidne village. At a meeting in the Regional State Administration, he said that a total of UAH 2.7 billion should be allocated for the comprehensive reconstruction of four settlements, including Yahidne.

Dnipropetrovsk oblast
According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Regional Council, 2 enemy Shahids were destroyed over the oblast at night. The enemy continued attacks in Nikopol region. They attacked Marhanets, Pokrovsk and Myrove with artillery and kamikaze drones. The attacks resumed in the morning. The occupiers attacked Nikopol, Marhanets and Myrove. The infrastructure was damaged.
Throughout the day, the occupiers fired on Nikopol region with artillery and kamikaze drones. In total, they carried out more than a dozen attacks. The enemy targeted the region center, Myrove and Pokrovsk.
A 50-year-old woman was injured in Nikopol. A hospital, a sports school, 3 apartment buildings, an industrial and utility company, 4 private houses, cars, a bus, a gas pipeline and a power line were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
Vinnytsia City Council reports that fifty kamikaze drones and auxiliary equipment were handed over to the military by the Vinnytsia community.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, reports that in one of the communities of Holovanivsk region, the fragments of a downed drone damaged windows and roofs in several houses.
Poltava oblast
Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava Regional Military Administration, reported that russian army attacked Poltava oblast at night. Air targets were shot down.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Yesterday, the occupiers launched 405 strikes on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. They conducted airstrikes on Kamianske and Novoandriivka. A total of 285 UAVs of various types attacked Bilienke, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, Malynivka, and Novodanilivka. Additionally, two MLRS strikes targeted Robotyne and Novodanilivka. There were 116 artillery strikes on the territories of Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Malynivka, Preobrazhenka, and Levadne. Ten reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure have been received.
It is reported that there was one combat clash in the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka towards Orikhiv. The occupiers were unsuccessful.
Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who are stationed at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), reported observing fires and smoke at various distances from the plant throughout the week. There were no disconnections of the power lines supplying the ZNPP, but representatives of the occupied nuclear facility informed international observers about a fire under the Dnipro line’s 750 kW overhead cables and the backup 1330 kW Ferrosplavna power line — the last two remaining external power lines for the ZNPP. Despite all reactors remaining in cold shutdown, the reliability of external power supply continues to pose a risk to nuclear safety at the ZNPP.
A modern playground was opened at the Patriot shelter in Zaporizhzhia. Thanks to a grant from the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service, a 75-square-meter playground was built in the shelter’s courtyard, and a new kitchen hood and voltage stabilizer were added to the kitchen. The shelter is used for compact residence for internally displaced persons in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Currently, 11 children live there with their parents.
Mykolaiv oblast
On the night of 8 August, air defense forces destroyed seven Shahed 131/136 drones in Mykolaiv oblast.
On 8 August, the enemy twice shelled Kutsurub community with artillery. There were no casualties. Additionally, the occupiers attacked Ochakiv and the waters of Ochakiv community, using artillery, two times yesterday and once this morning.
Yesterday, a fire broke out in an open area in Mykolaiv region as a result of the debris falling from a downed reconnaissance drone. The fire was promptly extinguished by firefighters.
As of August 2024, 19 bridges that were damaged due to active combat in the region have been fully rebuilt. Today, 9 August, the main and largest bridge, located in Voznesensk, was opened for traffic. It was this bridge that stopped the advance of the russian occupation forces northward in Mykolaiv oblast in 2022.
Odesa oblast
There are two enemy ships in the Black Sea armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to eight missiles. There are no enemy ships in the Sea of Azov.
The mother of fallen Junior Sergeant Danyil Shchelakov was presented with state awards in Odesa oblast — the Order “For Courage” III degree and the “For the Defense of Ukraine” medal. Danyil was killed on 5 November 2023, during a mortar shelling of positions near the village of Serhiiivka in the Svatove region of Luhansk oblast.
Kherson oblast
It is reported russian forces shelled a residential house in Zelenivka. A 77-year-old woman was injured in her own yard, sustaining a concussion, blast injury, and shrapnel wounds to her face. Also the occupiers attacked a civilian car with a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. As a result of the strike, a 29-year-old woman suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her forearm.
Yesterday six people were injured, and over 20 houses damaged in Kherson oblast due to russian attacks. The affected areas included Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovsk, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Veletenske, Komyshany, Romashkove, Shyroka Balka, Nadezhdivka, Beryslav, Tiahynka, Burhunka, Zolota Balka, and Havrylivka. A total of 36 objects were damaged: 19 private houses, three apartment buildings, 11 vehicles, and three garages.
A resident of Kherson who was injured in a russian strike yesterday evening sought medical help. The 72-year-old woman was diagnosed with a blast injury and shrapnel wound to her leg, and her condition is reported as mild.
During a nighttime drone attack, air defense forces destroyed two Shahed-131/136 drones over the region.
On 8 August, 2024, russian forces once again shelled Beryslav in Kherson oblast. While documenting the aftermath of the attacks today, the body of a 53-year-old man was found. It is believed that he was killed as a result of a drone attack.
Over the past day, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 75 occupiers and destroyed 38 units of enemy weapons and military equipment. Additionally, one ammunition storage site, four field supply buildups, three bunkers, and seven observation posts were hit.
Since the start of de-occupation efforts in the right-bank Kherson oblast, over 335,000 hectares have been cleared of explosive devices. More than 145 demining teams from eight organizations work daily to clear the region.

The RMA reported that shelters were set up in two more educational institutions of Kamin-Kashir region.
Zakarpattia oblast
Safety classrooms will appear in 10 schools of the oblast thanks to the RMA and Save the Children with the financial support of the Humanitarian Fund.
Uzhhorod City Center of Social Services of the Department of Social Policy of the City Council announced that 31 children and 23 adults went for a 1-day vacation to Kosyno water complex in Berehiv region. They are relatives of fallen Heroes and military personnel who are currently defending Ukraine.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
2 families of fallen defenders went on vacation to the Carpathians thanks to the Care for the Hero’s Family project. 2 adults and 2 children will have the opportunity to recover and emotionally recharge during the week at the Phoenix recreation complex in Bukovel.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast sent 10 3T Thermal Mavics, 150 FPV drones, 5 sets of experimental equipment Radiozavada and 8 tablets worth over UAH 4.1m to the 102nd Brigade thanks to the regional budget as part of the target program of support for military formations of Prykarpattia.
Lviv oblast
The Marshalki government of the Lublin Voivodeship sent 4 5.5 to 8.5 kW generators to regional medical institutions of Lviv oblast.
2 military units from Lviv oblast receive drones worth over UAH 1.2m made with co-financing from the regional budget.
At the request of the Lviv – Youth Capital of Europe 2025 Office, the Fama research agency studied the needs and moods of Lviv youth and Lviv Croissants franchise network donated UAH 100 to the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre for each completed questionnaire. In this way, the respondents not only took part in the research, but also joined the charity event in support of UNBROKEN, where Ukrainian military personnel are treated and rehabilitated. In this way, it was possible to collect UAH 400,000.
Rivne oblast
In Rivne oblast, the Center for the Search of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances has been operating for 2 months. It aims to cosult citizens and resolve problematic issues. During the period of work, the employees of the Center have already consulted 96 families.
Ternopil oblast
At the monument to Stepan Bandera, Ternopil residents observed a moment of silence for Ukrainians who gave their lives in the Moscow-Ukraine war. They prayed for all the military, civilians and children.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated UAH 32m additionally in the form of subventions to units of the Defence Forces. Another UAH 25m were added for the purchase and production of FPV-drones, UAVs, quadcopters, anti-aircraft fire protection equipment and PEP.
Families of 6 servicemen from Khmelnytskyi were awarded high honours posthumously. The III degree For Courage Order of the (posthumously) was awarded to soldier Oleksandr Shevchuk, sergeant Serhii Vdovin, sergeant Viktor Draluk, junior sergeant Oleh Kubey, senior soldier Bohdan Melnyk and senior soldier Pavlo Rozhik.
On 25 July, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain, Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor of London, boxer Oleksandr Usyk, and Ukrainian volunteers presented another batch of cars from the British for Ukraine. Recently, 55 cars arrived in Khmelnytskyi. The vehicles will be used primarily for evacuating the wounded, redeploying personnel, etc. They were collected by ordinary British people as part of the British-Ukrainian Aid charity event, who sent their SUVs, pickups, vans, minibuses and cars to Ukraine. The initiator of the project is the Mayor of London.
Chernivtsi oblast
Chernivtsi RMA sent 11 FPV drones to defenders. This is the 2nd batch of quadcopters purchased by the Department of Health Care of Chernivtsi oblast and Chernivtsi Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Medical Workers.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with additional mobile hospitals. The supply of modern medical systems will begin in 2024 and be completed by the end of 2026. The package includes 8 fully equipped mobile medical stations equipped with the most advanced equipment, including X-ray containers, operating rooms and intensive care units. The relevant contract was signed by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with the Rheinmetall German machine-building and arms company. This order is part of the German program to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities, initiated by the Federal Government of Germany.
