War in Ukraine today: latest news, 03 October 2025 (photo)

It has been the 1318th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

On 3 October, there were 92 combat clashes.

Border settlements, in particular Bobylivka, Vyntorivka, Manukhivka, Tovstodubove in Sumy region, suffered from artillery shelling from the territory of the russian federation.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian defenders repelled three russian attacks, and two more combat clashes are ongoing. The enemy has launched 6 airstrikes, dropping 15 guided bombs, and carried out 90 attacks, including six from multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, Ukrainian soldiers stopped six enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Kamianka, and Krasne Pershe, and three more combat clashes are ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the aggressor carried out one assault operation towards the settlement of Pishchane.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked nine times near the settlements of Hrekivka, Karpivka, Seredne, Shandryholovove, Kolodiazi and Torske. Three clashes are ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks near Serebrianka, Vyimka and towards Yampol and Dronivka, and fighting is currently ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, there were no clashes.

Towards Toretsk,  nine enemy offensive operations were stopped in the vicinity of the settlements of Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar and Poltavka.

Towards Pokrovsk, the invaders made 31 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Volodymyrivka, Razine, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoserhiivka and Filiia. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and stopped 26 attacks.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked 19 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Sosnivka, Vorone, Sichneve, Novoivanivka and towards Novomykolaivka. One combat clash continues to this day.

Towards Huliaipole, the defense forces repelled four attacks near Poltavka.

Towards Orikhiv, there were no offensive actions. The settlement of Komyshuvakha was subjected to an air strike.

The enemy made one futile attempt to break through the defenses of Ukrainian defenders; the enemy also launched an airstrike on Olhivka.

In other directions of the front, the situation did not undergo significant changes.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that on October 3, russia struck the energy sector in Donetsk oblast. The restoration of power supply in Kramatorsk, Sloviansk and Druzhkivka is underway.

Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal reports that the Ukrainian DELTA combat system has become the main control system for the joint command of the participating countries in the NATO REPMUS 2025 exercises. With the help of this system, more than 100 unmanned platforms were coordinated – sea, underwater, land and air.

 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

During the past 24 hours, 162 combat clashes were recorded.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi sector, our forces repelled nine enemy attacks in the areas of Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Kamianka, and towards the settlements of Kolodyazne and Novovasylivka.

In the Kupiansk sector, the invaders carried out three attacks yesterday. Our defenders repelled enemy assaults towards Kupiansk and Bohuslavka.

As a result of shelling over the past day, 10 settlements in the region came under attack, with damage reported to civilian facilities and energy infrastructure.

In Kharkiv city, a 48-year-old man was injured; in Novoselivka village (Novovodolazka community), a 41-year-old man was injured.

A 70-year-old man also sought medical assistance after being wounded during the September 24 shelling of Kupiansk.

In the Novovodolazka community, 13,000 pigs were killed and a farming enterprise was destroyed.

The enemy used various types of weapons against the Kharkiv region:
▪️ 13 missiles (type to be determined);
▪️ 46 Shahed-type UAVs (“Geran-2”);
▪️ 2 FPV drones.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:
▪️ In Kharkiv district – a farm building (Novoselivka village), a private house (Derhachi city);
▪️ In Kupiansk district – a building and a farm structure (Lozove village), a private house and a farm structure (Prokopivka village);
▪️ In Chuhuiv district – a warehouse, a combine harvester, and a vehicle (Novyi Burluk village).

Evacuation measures continue. From the Kupiansk sector, 56 people were evacuated. 742 people remain in the city.

The transit evacuation hub in Lozova received 186 people over the past day; 52 remain. About 60 people stay there around the clock for several days before continuing their journey. Since the hub began operating, 5,577 people have been registered.

Donetsk oblast

At 01:30, Russia attacked the settlement of Novodonecke with four “Gerbera” UAVs – 11 apartment buildings, 2 educational institutions, an administrative building, and 5 civilian cars were damaged.

On October 2, police recorded 1,966 enemy strikes along the frontline and against residential areas.

13 settlements came under fire: the cities of Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Siversk, Sloviansk; the settlements of Oleksandrivka, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, Raihorodok, Raiske; and the villages of Zolotyi Kolodiaz and Yakovlivka.

48 civilian facilities were damaged, including 22 residential houses.

  • In Kostiantynivka, Russians shelled the city 8 times with bombs, drones, and artillery – killing 1 civilian and injuring 3 more. Two apartment buildings, 9 private houses, and 2 civilian vehicles were damaged.

  • In Raiske (Druzhkivka community), 1 person was injured when an FPV drone struck a civilian truck.

  • In Kramatorsk, the enemy struck with 4 drones, damaging a transport company, a driving school, and 6 civilian vehicles.

  • Druzhkivka was attacked 3 times with “Molniya-2” and “Italmas” drones – damaging 2 apartment buildings, 1 private house, and a shop. In Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, 4 private houses were damaged.

  • In Sloviansk, a UAV strike (“Molniya-2” and “Italmas”) damaged a workshop and a farm building.

  • In Raihorodok, 3 private houses were damaged.

  • In Yakovlivka (Oleksandrivka community), a “Gerbera” UAV strike damaged a civilian car.

  • In Dobropillia, an FPV drone damaged an apartment building.

  • In Siversk, a “Molniya-2” UAV damaged a civilian vehicle.

Additionally, it was confirmed that two civilians were wounded in Druzhkivka on October 1 as a result of three “KAB-250” bomb strikes.

Luhansk oblast

Russian occupation forces continue their attempts to advance near Hrekivka in the Luhansk region. According to the Regional Military Administration, the enemy used 25 UAVs of various types and fired six times with tube artillery. In total, over the past 24 hours, the invaders carried out 21 assaults on the Lyman and Siversk sectors of the front.

Forced mobilization in the so-called “LNR” has become even harsher. The occupiers have banned men of conscription age from leaving the occupied territory of Luhansk region.

A debt of 40 million rubles has accumulated in recent months at three coal mining enterprises located in the “LNR.” As a result, 650 miners have been left without wages.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the new safe confinement, built over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, is currently receiving electricity from emergency diesel generators. On 1 October 2025, it lost power from the substation in Slavutych as a result of an attack by the russian federation. After the new safe confinement ‘Shelter’ was de-energised, it was possible to quickly connect to backup lines.

According to the RMA, the elimination of the consequences of the enemy attack on 1 October on the city of Slavutych is ongoing. Specialists are working around the clock to restore electricity. Currently, power supply has been partially restored in the city. Critical infrastructure facilities (water supply, hospital, two schools) have been reconnected. The main sewage pumping station is connected to the general power supply networks.

Ten stationary emergency centres and five mobile centres of the State Emergency Service have been set up in Slavutych. They have already been contacted by 3,035 people in need of heat, communication and support.

During the last prisoner exchange, civilian Serhii Akhmetov, who was kidnapped by russian troops in the city of Bucha in March 2022, returned home. Before the full-scale war, Serhiy lived in Bucha and made wooden toys. On 9 March 2022, the occupiers broke into his home and kidnapped him. Since then, his family has had almost no news of him. He is currently in hospital, undergoing rehabilitation.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, Kyiv has begun digitising the most essential social services for residents whose homes have been damaged by russian attacks. Step-by-step instructions for three types of assistance are currently available on the portal. Full digitisation of services is planned for the future, with applications for assistance to be submitted online.

Zhytomyr oblast

According to Vitalii Bunechko, head of Zhytomyr Regional State Administration, four more defenders from Zhytomyr oblast were returned from russian captivity. During the latest exchange, soldiers from the Novohuyvynska community, Starosiletska community, Zhytomyr city, and Malynska community returned home.

Servicemen of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Polissya Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were awarded medals for successfully completing tasks on the battlefield. The awards were presented to the Zhytomyr paratroopers on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine by Colonel Ruslan Maryshev, commander of the separate Polissya Airborne Assault Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Sumy oblast

Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that in the town of Seredyna-Buda, Shostka region, civilians gathered near a shop came under russian attack. Three women aged 59, 67 and 76, and a 60-year-old man were injured.

The Regional Military Administration informed that over the course of 3 October, six civilians in the oblast were wounded as a result of russian shelling. Five of the injured were residents of Shostka region and one from Sumy region. Two men were hospitalised, while the others are receiving outpatient treatment.

According to the Regional Military Administration, an eight-year-old girl and two adults were injured in a missile strike on Andriiashivka community. In the morning of 3 October, russian forces struck the yard of a household. Eight-year-old Viktoria was inside with her family when she was wounded in the leg by glass shards. Medics treated her at the scene, while two women sought medical help for acute stress reactions.

Mykola Noha, Head of Shostka community, said that overnight, the russian army carried out an air strike on Shostka community, damaging infrastructure in Voronizh oblast. Power outages were recorded in Shostka and all surrounding settlements. Emergency repair crews are working to restore supply.

Between the morning of 2 October and the morning of 3 October, russian forces carried out 35 attacks on 19 settlements in 8 communities of Sumy oblast. The largest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 10 strikes), FPV-drones, UAVs, multiple launch rocket systems, and carried out a missile strike.

Damage from russian strikes as of the morning of 3 October included:

  • In Esman community – a private house.

  • In Shostka community – a civilian infrastructure facility.

  • In Mykolaivka rural community – a private residential house.

  • In Sumy community – a private residential house.

  • In Andriiashivka community – private homes and farm buildings.

Over the past day, four people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities together with the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civic organisations.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Kodola, Mayor of Nizhyn, reported that city has been left completely without power. Water supply will be provided according to a schedule using generators. All critical infrastructure, including the water utility and hospitals, is operating on alternative power sources. From 6 October, all educational institutions will switch to remote learning.

The City Council’s Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure and Communications informed that in Chernihiv on 3 October, trolleybus services were suspended due to a power outage at a traction substation. All routes except for route 10 were halted and replaced with buses.

According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, throughout 2 October, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (8 explosions), artillery strikes (15 explosions), and FPV-drone attacks (23 explosions). Five settlements came under fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the oblast council, reports that the defenders destroyed 13 enemy UAVs. Fires broke out in Dnipro due to the attack. They also hit Dnipro region. 4 private houses were damaged. Synelnykove region was attacked with drones. They targeted Shakhtarske and Mezhova communities.

A high-rise building and a private house were damaged. The enemy continued to attack Nikopol region. In the evening and in the morning, they attacked Marhanets community with artillery and drones.

During the day, the occupiers attacked Nikopol region several times with artillery and drones. They targeted Nikopol, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske communities. 2 private houses, 4 outbuildings, several dozen solar panels and a power line were damaged. Synelnykove region was attacked again. UAVs targeted Mezhova community. Four men were injured. A fire broke out, a house, an outbuilding, a garage, and motorcycles were damaged. According to updated information, 3 more cars were damaged due to the night attack in Dnipro.

Vinnytsia region

A resident of the Shpykivska community, Yurii Chekurd, was returned from russian captivity. Junior Sergeant Yurii was captured by russians on April 12, 2022, during a firefight in the city of Mariupol.

Kirovohrad oblast

During the prisoner exchange between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Anatoly Butakov, a resident of the village of Velyki Troiany, Blahovishchensk community, Holovaniv region, was released. Anatoly is a marine of the 36th brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilinsky. He was captured in April 2022 in Mariupol.

Poltava oblast

The RMA announces that at night, the enemy carried out a massive combined attack on Poltava oblast using missiles and UAVs. There were hits and debris fell at various locations. Energy infrastructure facilities were damaged. In Poltava community, debris damaged a private home.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, says that in Cherkasy oblast, defense forces shot down 14 russian UAVs. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 3 October, the russian army attacked Komyshuvakha and Kushuhum communities with four FABs and FPV drones. As a result of the shelling, two people were injured. The blast wave and shrapnel destroyed a garage, a fire broke out, and a car was completely burned.

On 2 October, the occupiers executed 615 strikes on 17 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 17 airstrikes on Hryhorivka, Malokaterynivka, Komyshuvakha, Stepnohirsk, Lukianivske, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, and Poltavka. 390 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Tavriiske, Plavni, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Rivnopillia, and Poltavka. Six MLRS attacks targeted Novodanylivka and Mala Tokmachka. There were 202 artillery strikes on Plavni, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Charivne, Bilohiria, and Poltavka. Fifteen reports were received about damage to housing, cars, and infrastructure facilities.

According to the General Staff, on 3 October, the Defense Forces repelled four russian attacks near Poltavka towards Huliaipole. On 2 October, the Defense Forces repelled three attacks by russian troops near the settlements of Stepove and Kamianka towards Orikhiv.

Today, around 12:35, residents of temporarily occupied Berdiansk heard a loud explosion. Before that, russian air defense operated in the city. According to the head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, Petro Andriushchenko, an enemy training ground was hit.

It is reported that russian occupation court sentenced Enerhodar resident Yevhen Koliada to 12 years in prison in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russians accused the man of allegedly working for the “Ukrainian special services” and passing them information about the location of the russian army. Yevhen was abducted by the occupiers back in June 2022.

Mykolaiv oblast

At night, two Shahed-type UAVs and various types of decoy drones were shot down or suppressed in the region. As a result of combat activity and falling debris, a fire broke out in Bashtanka region, and a farm building was damaged.

Yesterday, the enemy attacked Ochakiv community six times with FPV drones and carried out two artillery strikes on Kutsurub community. No casualties were reported.

Odesa oblast

28-year-old marine from Odesa oblast, Dmytro Kostiukhin, returned from russian captivity during the prisoner exchange on 2 October. Dmytro is a resident of the village of Bochmanivka in Podilsk region. He spent three years and six months in captivity after being captured during the defense of Mariupol.

Kherson oblast

On 3 October, at around 13:00, the enemy shelled Zelenivka, injuring three men with blast wounds and concussions. Two more people sought medical help after coming under a russian attack in Kherson at noon. A 35-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman also sustained blast injuries and concussions.

Yesterday, on 2 October, russian forces struck settlements in Kherson and Beryslav regions with artillery, mortars, and drones. Kherson, Kizomys, Antonivka, Dniprovske, Sofiivka, Zelenivka, Prydniprovske, Naddniprianske, Sadove, Komyshany, Stanislav, Bilozerka, Oleksandrivka, Tomyna Balka, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Ukrainka, and Osokorivka were attacked. Two apartment buildings, 11 private houses, a critical infrastructure facility, and a police service car were damaged. Five settlements in Beryslav region were left without power. Five people were injured as a result of russian aggression.

According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 3 October, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to break through Ukrainian defenses towards Kherson.

In September, 210 residents were evacuated from Kherson oblast, including 17 children and 25 people with limited mobility. The bodies of 100 deceased individuals were also recovered from dangerous communities.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

This year, the oblast was allocated over UAH 220m to support veterans. These are funds from the regional and community budgets, which were provided within the framework of relevant programs.

Zakarpattia oblast

The inpatient care unit of Uzhhorod City Tercenter of Social Services of the Department of Social Policy of the City Council currently houses 44 elderly people and people with disabilities, including 12 displaced persons. Every day they receive the necessary help, care, and attention from the institution’s staff.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Henryk Sasaj, newly appointed Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhhorod,. They discussed support for the region and cooperation.

The RMA reported that 18 participants of the Caring for the Hero’s Family project from Otyniyska community went on a 1-day tour to the heart of Hutsul region –Kosiv region.

Lviv oblast

Among those who returned during the last prisoner exchange is Oleh Lotoshynskyi, resident of the village of Polonychna, Sheptytskyi region. The soldier had been in captivity since May 2022.

Also, Yehor Smykov, defender from the Yavoriv region, returned home from russian captivity. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, his family was forced to leave their home in Zaporizhzhia oblast and found refuge in Lviv oblast.

The Alley of Heroes in honor of ten warriors was opened in Lviv oblast. The opening took place the day before in the village of Bratkovychi, Horodotska community.

Rivne oblast

Among the Ukrainian soldiers released from russian captivity is 1 soldier from Rivne oblast. He is a 41-year-old sailor from Rivne region.

9 veterans from Rivne oblast will be able to purchase housing. Almost UAH 112m was received from the state budget as a subsidy for this.

Ternopil oblast

A defender from Ternopil will receive his own apartment. The city will provide him with financial assistance with the 1st installment under the eOselia program – it will compensate for 20% of the 1st payment on a mortgage loan in the amount of over UAH 360,000. To date, 19 community warriors have already taken advantage of this program and purchased housing.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

185 defenders returned from russian captivity. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the State Border Service. Among those released are 2 from Khmelnytskyi oblast: 1 from Khmelnytskyi region and 1 from Shepetivsk region.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi oblast has allocated almost UAH 220m to support veterans in 2025. UAH 52m from the regional budget and UAH 166m from the budgets of local communities.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Luis Montenegro, Prime Minister of Portugal. They discussed further defense assistance, including new assistance packages and the development of the SAFE instrument.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Nikos Christodoulides, President Cyprus. They discussed infrastructure projects and defense cooperation.
