On 18 January, the total number of combat engagements was 69.

Communities of the settlements of Budky, Ryzhivka, Bezsalivka in Sumy oblast were affected by enemy artillery fire.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy carried out one airstrike, dropping two guided bombs, and carried out 52 attacks, including one from a multiple launch rocket system.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the Defense Forces repelled one enemy attack, five more combat engagements are ongoing, the enemy is trying to advance in the vicinity of ​​the settlement of Vovchansk and towards Nesterny, Kruhhle.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried three times to displace Ukrainian units from the occupied positions in the vicinity of ​​Pishchane and Borivska Andriivka. One battle is ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out three attacks on Ukrainian positions near Yampol and Stavky.

Towards Slaviansk and Kramatorsk, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the enemy attacked 11 times near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultynye, Shcherbynivka, Ivanopillia and towards Berestok, Stepanivka, Sofiivka. One clash is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 29 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Kotlyne, Udachne and towards Filiia, Novopavlivka. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 28 attacks.

Towards Oleksandrovka, Ukrainian defenders repelled four assault actions by enemy troops. The enemy is trying to advance towards Ivanivka, Nove Zaporizhzhia, and Radisne. The settlement of Khvyli was hit by an airstrike.

Towards Huliaipole, there were 11 clashes in the vicinity of the settlements of Huliaipole, Zelene, Varvarivka, and Dobropillia. One of them is currently ongoing. Huliaipole, Vozdvizhivka, Verkhnia Tersa and Dolynka were once again hit by enemy airstrikes.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy tried twice to break through Ukrainian defenses near the settlement of Plavni, and one battle is currently ongoing. The settlements of Zhovta Krucha and Tavriiske were hit by airstrikes.

Towards Kherson, there were no enemy offensive actions.

Kharkiv oblast

Towards Southern Sloboda,  eight attacks were stopped in the vicinity of ​​Vovchanski Khutory, Vovchansk, Prylipka and towards Kruhle and Chuhunivka.

Towards Kupiansk, there were six attacks towards Petropavlivka and Kurylivka.

Regional police spokeswoman Olha Hrabar reports that a 58-year-old man was killed as a result of russian airstrikes in the village of Prikolotne, Vilhuvatka community, Kupiansky region, on the night of January 18. According to her, an 84-year-old man also suffered acute stress as a result of the attack.

On the night of January 18, the russian army struck a residential building in Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv with a drone. According to rescuers, a fire broke out on the spot with a total area of ​​150 square meters.

According to Yevhen Vasylenko, Spokesman for the regional State Emergency Service, a 20-year-old girl died as a result of the fire, and an 18-year-old girl was injured. A 41-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man also suffered acute stress.

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 12 settlements in the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes.

Three people were killed and 11 injured as a result of the shelling.

In Kharkiv, a 20-year-old woman was killed, 62-year-old, 59-year-old, and 53-year-old men and 18-year-old, 52-year-old, and 41-year-old women were injured; in Shevchenko community, a 50-year-old woman was killed on the highway near the village of Borova, and a 51-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were injured near the village of Starovirivka; in Zolochiv village, a 50-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were injured; in Prykolotne village of Vilhuvatka community, a 58-year-old man was killed and an 84-year-old man was injured.

The enemy attacked Industrialnyi, Slobidskyi, and Kholodnohirskyi districts of Kharkiv with 4 missiles and 3 UAVs.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons:

Civil infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️In Kharkiv, energy facilities, 6 private houses, 2 garages, 2 cars, and an administrative building were damaged;

▪️In Bogodukhiv region, a private house and 2 cars were damaged (Zolochiv village);

▪️In Kupiansk region, 2 private houses were damaged (Hrushivka village), a car (Mykhailivka village), a private house (Velykyi Burluk village), and 2 private houses (Prykolotne village);

▪️In Kharkiv region, an apartment building and a cultural institution were damaged (Zaluzhne village);

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 30 people. A total of 16,792 people have been registered at the Point since its inception.

During the full-scale russian invasion, the population of Vilhuvatka community on the border of Kharkiv oblast decreased by about 80% – now there are over a thousand residents left, among whom, according to official data, there are no children. The community includes 30 settlements, it shares a 35-kilometer common border with russia.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the russian army carried out 45 assaults in a day towards Pokrovsk near Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Rivne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske and towards Novopavlivka and Filia. Towards Kostiantynivka, the Defense Forces repelled another 15 assaults.

A fighter of the 68th OEB Denis, call sign “Gus” says that in Pokrovsk, the russian army did not stop storming the positions of the Defense Forces despite the bad weather: it was snowing in the city, and in places frosts of -20 degrees were recorded. The occupiers continue to put pressure on the northern part of Pokrovsk, in particular, sometimes attacking ATVs and light equipment.

The press service of the 132nd separate reconnaissance battalion of the 7th rapid reaction corps of the DSHV reported that towards Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian military cleared a section of about 900 meters during the day. The operation was carried out to improve the tactical situation.

The East group of troops denied the statements of russian propagandists about the capture of the village of Minkivka in Donetsk oblast. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to keep the settlement under control and carry out combat missions.

Donetsk SES reported that in Druzhkivka, the building of the fire and rescue unit was damaged due to russian shelling. The blast wave damaged about 16 windows, doors and garage doors in the building. 

After midnight, the russian army shelled Kramatorsk community twice. According to the RMA, first, russian troops struck the private sector with Geran-2 drones, and at 4:37 they shelled a critical infrastructure facility with aerial bombs.

There were 1,620 enemy strikes in the oblast.

The occupiers used Smerch MLRS to strike Raihorodok, destroying 4 homes and a non-residential building.

In Petrykivka, the first strike by a Lancet UAV damaged a civilian car.

The Yellow Ribbon resistance movement reported that in temporarily occupied Yenakiievo, Donetsk oblast, women are being offered jobs as truck drivers at post offices due to a shortage of able-bodied men who have signed contracts or been mobilized into the russian army. Women have to carry parcels and bags weighing up to 50 kilograms through a cold warehouse that has no heating.

Luhansk oblast

russian troops used mortars and automatic grenade launchers five times, trying to hit the fortifications of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the zone of responsibility. The enemy launched attacks twice with multiple launch rocket systems. 13 unmanned aerial vehicles were involved in the combat missions.

Over the past day, there were seven attacks towards Lyman.

In Sievierskodonetsk, as of mid-January, there is no stable heating in apartment buildings. russian occupation administrations promised to restore the heating system, destroyed during the storming of the city, every year, starting in 2022. In December 2025, an order was given to ensure the supply of coolant to all buildings by the New Year, but in fact they limited themselves to submitting reports. Heating is available only in some apartment buildings.

In the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk oblast, russian invaders are intensifying the exploitation of industrial enterprises that continue to operate. Taking advantage of the high unemployment rate, they are counting on the fact that workers will not be fired even in the absence of payments. In particular, at the Lutugynsk Scientific and Production Rolling Mill, wages have been delayed for about a year.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

In Kyiv, starting January 17, new curfew rules came into effect for the duration of the energy emergency, reported Timur Tkachenko, Head of the City Military Administration. During this period, during curfew hours, people are allowed to walk or travel by private transport, including taxis, to return home or go to Points of Resilience. The Points of Resilience may now operate around the clock.

In Kyiv region, efforts continue to eliminate the consequences of winter Russian attacks, due to which an energy state of emergency is in effect. Houses with electric heating in the region are connected to high-capacity generators. 36 mobile boiler houses and 50 cogeneration units are operating. This was reported by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.

In Kyiv region, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, more than 850 enterprises have been damaged and 127 completely destroyed as a result of hostilities, reported Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration. According to him, this figure also includes nearly 100 war-damaged industrial facilities, more than 30 of which were completely destroyed. Despite this, Kyiv region ranks fifth among Ukraine’s regions in terms of the volume of sold industrial output.

In the city of Bucha, 24/7 mobile heating points—so-called “wagons of resilience”—will begin operating soon. Similar units are already functioning in Brovary, Boryspil, and Vasylkiv, the Bucha City Council reported. Each wagon will accommodate up to 40 people. Inside, there will be heating, high-speed Starlink satellite internet, and basic equipment. Separate areas for children and spaces for pets will also be provided.

In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, a Resilience Center is operating—a support space for people who need a conversation or assistance. It offers free individual consultations on social and psychological issues, support in crisis situations, and opportunities to join group sessions aimed at emotional recovery and social cohesion. The center is located in the Humanitarian Headquarters building “Luhanshchyna Moia” and is open to both community residents and Kyiv residents.

The Stand With Ukraine Foundation has launched a charity fundraiser titled “Warmth from Poland for Kyiv.” The campaign lasts three days and has already raised PLN 1.26 million (about UAH 15 million) for generators, sleeping bags, and fuel. The initial goal was to raise funds for 100 generators and charging stations, but the required amount was collected within a few hours, prompting the organizers to increase the target to PLN 2 million.

Zhytomyr oblast

In 2025, the Olevsk City Territorial Community in Zhytomyr region allocated over UAH 2.8 million for the procurement of military equipment for the needs of the Defense Forces. The assistance was provided within local programs of national resistance and territorial defense, reported Deputy Mayor Yurii Daniuk.

In Zhytomyr region, 72.7 thousand internally displaced persons (IDPs) are registered. Among them are 16.5 thousand children, 4.1 thousand persons with disabilities, and 104 large families. The vast majority of IDPs live in the private sector. The region operates 27 temporary accommodation facilities, currently housing 474 IDPs, with 483 available places. In addition, 17 compact accommodation facilities are operating, accommodating 137 people, with 81 places available.

Overall, 1,178 additional places for IDP accommodation have been created in the region. Together with international partners and territorial communities, housing construction projects have been implemented to provide homes for 251 displaced persons.

Sumy oblast

Serhii Kryvosheienko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration, reported that at around noon on 18 January, in Kovpakivskyi District of Sumy, the fall of an FPV drone near a residential building damaged five windows, more than ten balcony frames and window units in apartments on floors one to four, as well as two vehicles. 

At approximately 9:10am on 18 January, russian forces struck a civilian vehicle in Hlukhiv. No injuries were reported, while the vehicle sustained damage. According to Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, russian drones attacked civilian vehicles three times in Hlukhiv community during the morning alone. Residents are being warned of the danger posed by russian UAVs on roads towards Hlukhiv and nearby villages.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, Head of the City Military Administration, said that in the evening of 17 January, russian forces attacked Sumy community by guided aerial bombs. Four people were injured. A seven-year-old boy and a 76-year-old woman were hospitalised for inpatient treatment.

According to Serhii Kryvosheienko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration, as a result of a russian drone attack on 17 January, outbuildings caught fire in Zarichnyi District of Sumy.

Sumy City Military Administration informed that on 17 January, in Bytytskyi starosta district, russian forces struck a shop by a drone, wounding a 23-year-old man. He remains in hospital.

In Sumy, two houses were destroyed and around 20 others damaged as a result of a russian attack. Restoration works are ongoing. According to Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, some residents are temporarily without electricity supply. Unstable voltage has also caused disruptions to water supply systems.

Over the past 24 hours, from the morning of 17 January to the morning of 18 January, russian forces carried out more than 100 attacks on 41 settlements across 17 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombss. Over the day, air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 22 hours and 24 minutes.

The consequences of the russian attacks on the territory of Sumy oblast as of the morning of 18 January are as follows:

  • In Sumy community, a 23-year-old man was wounded as a result of a drone strike; a 77-year-old woman was injured in a UAV attack; women aged 66 and 76, as well as a seven-year-old boy, were injured as a result of a guided aerial bomb strike. Multi-storey residential buildings, private houses, a non-residential building, outbuildings, garages, passenger vehicles, and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;

  • In Yampil community, a private residential house was damaged;

  • In Popivka community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;

  • In Mykolaivka rural community, private residential houses and vehicles were damaged;

  • In Seredyna-Buda community, a vehicle was destroyed and private residential houses were damaged;

  • In Bilopillia community, an outbuilding was damaged;

  • In Trostianets community, a non-residential building was damaged.

Over the 24-hour period, five people were evacuated from border communities by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organisations.

Sumy City Military Administration reported that in 2025 and 2026, russian forces attacked petrol stations in Sumy nine times. One of the most recent strikes occurred on 14 January 2026. A drone struck a filling station in Kovpakivskyi District of the city. As a result of the strike, the station’s facilities and vehicles were damaged. Two people sought medical assistance.

The Regional Military Administration informed that due to low temperatures and enemy strikes on energy infrastructure, Points of Invincibility are operating in every community across Sumy oblast to support residents. A total of 429 such points have been deployed across the oblast. All are equipped with generators, heating, and communications.

Chernihiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that a mobile fire group of “Stalevyi Kordon” Brigade shot down one russian Herbera-type unmanned aerial vehicle in the skies over Chernihiv oblast over the course of 17 January.

Snovsk City Council informed that on the morning of 18 January, russian forces attacked the centre of Snovsk in Chernihiv oblast. A woman was seriously wounded as a result of the strike. According to Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of Koriukivka Regional State Administration, a banking institution and the premises of a cultural centre were damaged, including a hall where children had been engaged in sports activities.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional State Administration, said that at 3:30pm on 17 January, a russian drone struck the home of a local resident in Semenivka. Law enforcement officers arrived to provide assistance. While they were at the scene, a second attack occurred. As a result of a strike by a Molniya-type attack drone, three police officers and the 59-year-old homeowner were injured.

Over the course of 17 January, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Semenivka, Snovsk, and Horodnia. The enemy carried out shelling by tube artillery (nine explosions) and multiple launch rocket systems (28 explosions), struck by Molniya UAVs (two explosions), a Shahed UAV (one explosion), FPV drones (23 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (four explosions). According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, Semenivka town and Horodnia town, as well as seven villages, came under fire.

On 16 January, the team of Proliska humanitarian mission evacuated a woman with limited mobility and her husband from the border town of Semenivka. The couple’s daughter had requested assistance from the volunteers. The journey took more than five hours due to icy roads, freezing temperatures, and constant tension. Shortly before their arrival, civilian vehicles on this stretch of road had been attacked by a russian FPV drone.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that occupying forces struck Vasylkiv community by UAVs. Six people were injured. Fires broke out, and three private houses, an outbuilding, a fire depot, and vehicles were damaged. According to updated information, a gas pipeline was damaged as a result of yesterday’s guided aerial bomb strikes in Pokrovske community.

The enemy attacked Nikopol by drones and artillery. A vehicle caught fire. As a result of an evening attack, an outbuilding was destroyed, while seven private houses, two garages, a power line, and a gas pipeline were damaged.

The enemy shelled the regional centre as well as Myrove, Pokrovske, and Chervonohryhorivka communities by artillery and UAVs. A private house, a garage, infrastructure facilities, and a power line were damaged.

Occupying forces struck Hrushivka community by a drone, damaging a private house.

Enemy forces again attacked Vasylkiv community by UAVs. An outbuilding caught fire.

In Pokrovske community, a 43-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised.

As a result of a UAV attack in Solone community, two private houses and infrastructure facilities were damaged.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Osytna village, Novomyrhorod community, Novoukrainsk region, Kirovohrad oblast, residents paid tribute to soldier Volodymyr Vashchenko, who was killed in Donetsk oblast in May 2024. He had been listed as missing in action for one and a half years.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, a rally in support of prisoners of war and missing service members, titled “Do Not Be Silent — Captivity Kills,” took place. Around one hundred people gathered, including relatives and friends of defenders, volunteers, service members, and local residents.

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 17 January, the occupiers carried out 802 strikes on 32 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Eleven airstrikes were launched on Rizdvianka, Zelena Dibrova, Odarivka, Zhovta Krucha, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Dolynka, Vozdvyzhivka, and Hirske. 517 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Vilniansk, Bilenke, Znachkove, Marianivka, Mykhailivske, Sofiivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, and Solodke. There were five MLRS attacks on Stepnohirsk, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Sviatopetrivka, and New Zaporizhzhia. 269 artillery strikes hit Chervonodniprovka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, and Solodke. Seventeen reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure were received. One person was injured as a result of an enemy attack on Zaporizhzhia region.

The General Staff reported that on 18 January, 11 combat engagements took place towards Huliaipole in the areas of Huliaipole, Zelene, Varvarivka and Dobropillia. One of them is still ongoing. The enemy attempted twice to break through Ukrainian defenses towards Orikhiv near the settlement of Plavni; one battle is currently ongoing. Over the past day, 17 January, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 23 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv.

Police of Zaporizhzhia oblast reported that on 17 January, 11 people were evacuated from the frontline settlements of Kushuhum and Hryhorivka in Zaporizhzhia region. Seven women, three children, and one man were evacuated.

The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that repairs began on a damaged backup power transmission line at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Ukrainian team fixes the line, while IAEA representatives on site are monitoring the progress. The agency noted that the repair work became possible under another temporary ceasefire near the plant, facilitated by the IAEA.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that on the night of 18 January, five Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs or decoy drones of various types were shot down or suppressed over Mykolaiv oblast. In addition, yesterday, 17 January, the enemy attacked Ochakiv community seven times with FPV drones. There were no casualties.

Odesa oblast

According to Odesa Regional Military Administration, on the night of 18 January, the enemy once again attacked the south of Odesa oblast with strike drones. As a result of the hits, a fire broke out at an energy infrastructure facility. A production building and company property were damaged.

Kherson oblast

Yaroslav Shanko, Head of Kherson City Military Administration,  reported that russian occupiers shelled Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. As a result of the attack, one educational institution was damaged.

Police of Kherson oblast reported that on 17 January, russian forces attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Dniprovske, Sofiivka, Sadove, Kizomys, Prydniprovske, Zelenivka, Shyroka Balka, Stanislav, Rozlyv, Molodizhne, Zamozhne, Novovorontsovka, Ivanivka, Kozatske, and Vesele. As a result of the shelling, four private residential buildings, a civilian vehicle, and an administrative building were damaged. Two people were killed, and one was injured due to russian aggression.

Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces reported that on 17 January, Ukrainian defenders repelled one russian attempt to advance in the vicinity of the Antonivskyi Bridge towards Kherson. Ukrainian forces eliminated 247 russian occupiers. In addition, Ukrainian units destroyed a tank, three armored combat vehicles, 13 artillery systems, 52 units of automotive equipment, 19 drones and other equipment, as well as 125 shelters, a storage site for ammunition, and fuel and lubricants.

The National Resistance Center reported that the occupation administration of Kherson oblast, sent a group of 24 teenagers to Volgograd in the russian federation, where they were introduced to military specialties at the Avangard defense and sports camp under the guise of an educational project. According to available information, participants in the project titled “Pride of the Nation. Path of Development” were selected through schools and lyceums under administrative pressure. According to analysts at the National Resistance Center, the real purpose of such trips is the forced integration of minors into russia’s military infrastructure and the formation of a loyal mobilization reserve.

Volyn oblast

Due to the decrease in air temperature in the Carpathian region, 3 additional mobile Invincibility Points were deployed (Ivano-Frankivsk, Kalush and Kolomyia). Ukrzaliznytsia opened 2 more Heating Points on the territory of the stations in Kalush and Mykulychyn.

Lviv oblast

Drohobych RMA, together with volunteers from the Anti-Corruption Administration Security Union NGO, donated a Hyundai Terracan SUV to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Drohobych community sent a radar combat module to one of the combat units of the National Guard – the Military Unit 4114.

In Boryslav Library Branch №6, women from the Give Warmth To The Defender Of Ukraine public movement are knitting socks for the defenders.

Rivne oblast

In the oblast, 77 veterans received funds to purchase housing. The total amount is UAH 184.16m.

Ternopil oblast

The Special Unit Predator of the patrol police received 4 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters and 2 Saqribs electronic warfare devices from Ternopil community.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

This night, the Air Defense Forces shot down/suppressed 6 enemy strike drones. There were no injuries or deaths. As a result of today’s night attack in Starokostiantynivska community, Khmelnytskyi region, windows in a residential building, a cultural center and a store were damaged.

Chernivtsi oblast

In Chernivtsi, video surveillance cameras have been installed on the Alley of Glory. This is a necessary measure, as any manifestations of vandalism in this space are unacceptable. The cameras operate on solar panels and provide 24-hour surveillance regardless of the availability of electricity.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

In the coming days, a batch of heating equipment will arrive in Ukraine from Italy to support the regions most affected by russian terror. This is the implementation of agreements between Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, and Giorgia Meloni, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy. Within the first stage, 78 industrial boilers with a total capacity of 116.5 MW are going to Ukraine. The second stage of support is designed for the next six months. During this time, Ukraine will receive more than 300 boilers with a total capacity of 806 MW.

In Poland, over 1m zlotys were raised for generators for Kyiv. Initially, the organizers planned to purchase 100 generators. However, the planned amount was raised in a few hours. The fundraiser was organized by the Stand With Ukraine foundation in partnership with several organizations and public movements, including Euromaidan-Warsaw, Democracy Foundation, Sestry.eu, Open Dialogue Foundation, PRB Foundation and Entrepreneurs Help.
