The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back russian occupiers’ advance and are taking measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory. On 15 May, there were 73 combat engagements on the frontline.
Communities of Baranivka, Chuikivka, Porozok, Prokhody, Dmytrivka, Novodmytrivka, and Ponomarenky in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Kharkiv, five enemy attacks were repelled by Ukrainian units in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Hlyboki, and towards Vysoka Yaruha and Kudiivka.
Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainians repelled two assaults in the vicinity of Pishchane and Kruhliakivka.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out eight attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Ridkodub, Kolodiazi and in the vicinity of Novoplatonivka, Novyi Myr, and Zelena Dolyna. Two of them are still ongoing.
Towards Siversk, the occupying forces are looking for weak spots in our defenses near Bilohorivka, Hryhorivka, and Verkhnokamianske. Ukrainian units successfully repelled two out of three enemy attacks, one battle is ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, the occupying forces tried four times to advance on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar and Kurdiumivka. Two clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Toretsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled one assault by the aggressor. The enemy tried to advance towards Toretsk.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian invaders made 27 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their occupied positions in the vicinitys of the settlements of Malynivka, Myroliubivka, Yelizavetivka, Lysivka, Novoserhiivka, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Andriivka, and near Zori and Stara Mykolaivka.
The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 19 enemy attacks, eight more clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy tried to break through the defenses of Ukrainian defenders 11 times in the vicinity of the settlements of Bahatyr, Konstantinopol, Pryvilne and Vilne Pole. Seven clashes are still ongoing. Novopol, Novodarivka and Temyrivka were hit by airstrikes.
Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched airstrikes with unguided air missiles on Vysoke, there were no enemy offensive actions there.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy assaults in the vicinity of Mali Shcherbaky and Stepove. There were airstrikes on Novoiakovlivka and Mali Shcherbaky.
Towards Kherson, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations, but carried out an airstrike on Kozats’ke.
Towards Kursk, there were eight clashes, four of which are ongoing. In addition, the enemy carried out four airstrikes, dropping seven guided bombs, and carried out 123 artillery shelling.
In other areas, there were no significant changes.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy informs that Ukraine is sending a delegation to talks with the russian federation in Istanbul. Some Ukrainian officials, led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, will go to the talks.
The IAEA informs that Zaporizhzhia NPP has been dependent on a single power transmission line for more than a week. The only backup power transmission line of the NPP at 330 kilovolts was disconnected on May 7, which left the plant completely dependent on a single functional 750 kV line.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
Yesterday, there were 168 combat engagements. Towards Kharkiv, the enemy conducted three offensives near the towns of Vovchansk and Kamianka. One enemy attack took place towards Kupiansk over the last day. Defence forces repelled the enemy’s assault near Hlushkivka.
The General Staff reported that as of 4pm five russian attacks were repelled by Ukrainian units towards Kharkiv, in the areas of Vovchansk, Hlyboke and towards Vysoka Yaruha and Kudiivka.
Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainians repelled two assaults in Pishchane and Kruhliakivka.
Towards Lyman, the russian army launched eight attacks over the day, including in the direction of Novyi Myr.
Attacks
Andrii Kanashevych, Head of the RMA, reported that in the morning the russian army struck the library building in Kupiansk with artillery, and a fire broke out at the site of the hit. There were no people in the library. There have been several launches of russian multiple rocket launchers at Kupiansk region.
The RMA informed that yesterday 6 settlements in Kharkiv oblast came under enemy fire. As a result of shelling in Kupiansk, a 60-year-old man was killed, a 58-year-old woman was injured in the village of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi of Kupiansk community, and an 86-year-old and 75-year-old man were wounded in Kozacha Lopan of Derhachi community.
The enemy used various types of weapons in Kharkiv oblast:

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- 9 private houses, an apartment building, and a pig farm warehouse were damaged in Kupiansk region;
- 4 private houses and 2 outbuildings were damaged in Izium region;
- an excavator was damaged in Chuhuiv region.
Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of Derhachi CMA, reported that russians hit an ambulance team that arrived at the site of the attack in Kozacha Lopan to help the wounded with an FPV drone.
Other
Today in Kharkiv oblast:
▪️ more than 92,000 combatants;
▪️ almost 7,000 people with disabilities as a result of the war;
▪️ more than 13,000 family members of fallen defenders
▪️ more than 1,300 children who lost their parents in the war.
Head Serhii Starikov said that modular health posts were set up in Hroza and Vasylenkove of Shevchenkove community. Due to russian strikes, the facilities where residents were provided with medical services before the invasion were destroyed. He said that after that there were no premises for medical examinations, and people were seen on the move by doctors in their cars. The modular stations in Vasylenkove and Hroza are insulated and have electric heating, sewerage and water supply.
The Museum of Nature in Kharkiv opened for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Andrii Kanashevych, Head of the RMA, said that in Kupiansk, a local hospital was closed due to russian shelling. This decision was made to save the lives of doctors and patients.
Olena Klymenko, Spokeswoman of the shopping centre, reported that as a result of a russian strike on Barabashovo in Kharkiv on 6 May, goods in 20 stores burned down. According to her, 50 stores were destroyed by fire after a russian drone hit, but 30 of them were empty.
Klymenko said that the market administration is considering cancelling rent payments for two months to six months for entrepreneurs who suffered losses.
On 15 May, Kharkiv held a rally to mark World Vyshyvanka Day. The event took place near the monument to Taras Shevchenko, after which the participants marched to the tent “Everything for Victory” on Freedom Square.

Donetsk oblast
Frontline
The General Staff reported that the russian army has increased the number of attacks in Toretsk and the outskirts of the city. Yesterday the occupiers stormed the positions of the Defence Forces 19 times in Toretsk, Krymske and Diliyivka, while the day before there were six attacks. Most of the fighting was occurred towards Pokrovsk as russian troops attacked 74 times. More than 20 attacks also took place towards Lyman and Novopavlivka.
Soldiers of the 63rd Brigade reported on the website that they shot down a russian ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drone in Donetsk oblast, which costs about $200,000.
Serhii Naiev, Commander of the Vuhledar tactical group, reported that the defence forces have improved the tactical situation in three key frontline areas. Over the past month, the Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated about 10,000 russian military personnel in the area of responsibility.
Attacks
Serhii Debriak, Head of the CMA, reported that at least 10 residents of Pokrovsk have been killed and 19 others wounded by russian shelling. The occupiers have increased the intensity of attacks on the city, the situation with shelling in Pokrovsk has worsened.
Kostiantynivka CMA informed that in the first half of the day, the occupiers shelled Kostiantynivka three times with artillery and various drones. One person was wounded.
Horbunov, Head of the CMA, said that at night russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka with drones three times. The occupiers damaged a multi-storey building and two cars.
Over the past day, the police recorded 2,935 enemy attacks. The enemy shelled 12 settlements. 89 civilian objects were destroyed, including 68 residential buildings.
The enemy attacked Torske with a UAV, killing one person.
Kostiantynivka withstood 8 strikes – 2 civilians were wounded, 3 apartment buildings and 7 private houses, non-residential premises, a petrol station, a commercial building, a business, and cars were damaged.
Russia attacked the village of Zolotyi Kolodiaz with two Geranium-2 UAVs – one person was injured, 2 private houses, a garage, a non-residential building, and 2 cars were damaged.
A UMPB D30-SN bomb hit the village of Yalta, Volnovakha region, injuring 2 civilians and damaging a house.
There is a wounded person as a result of shelling of Bokove village of Bilozerka community.
In Stepanivka, a person was injured as a result of a Geranium-2 UAV attack, and 3 houses, a garage and a car were damaged.
Luhansk oblast
The russians tried to shoot at the settlements and our fortifications along the contact line using all available weapons. They used cannon and rocket artillery 13 times. They carried out two air strikes. They sent 192 drones towards Ukrainian defenders. Yesterday, the invaders attacked near Novoiehorivka, Hrekivka and Bilohorivka.
The water supply situation in the so-called “lpr” is getting worse. In the territory occupied in 2022, the drinking water situation remains consistently bad. On the territory seized in 2014, which was spared from hostilities, critical infrastructure was virtually undamaged, but this does not prevent the occupiers from constantly reducing the pressure or turning off the water supply altogether. Over the past 11 years, russia has not invested a single penny in these water pipes. This year, a summer water supply schedule developed by Luhanskvoda will be in effect in a number of settlements. In the first stage, water will be supplied twice a day, in the second stage – only once.
In Rubizhne, the occupation authorities justified the poor quality of the work on replacing the drainage system in the damaged apartment blocks. It turned out that the visiting construction workers had no previous experience in this field. They came to the occupied Luhansk oblast to learn. It was their first time to receive such an order.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
At night, the enemy massively attacked Kyiv oblast using UAVs. According to the RMA, the fall of downed enemy targets in Vyshhorod district caused a fire in an under-construction private house and in the territory of the forest. In Fastiv district, two private houses were damaged as a result of the attack.
According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the French government transferred €10 million to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Chornobyl Fund. The money will be used to repair the protective shelter over the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a russian drone attack.
On 12 May, Ukrainian actor, showman, and soldier Maksym Nelipa, originally from Kyiv, was killed in the war while performing a combat mission at the battlefield. Maksym was the host of many projects on Ukrainian television. In March 2022, after the outbreak of full-scale war, he joined the Ukrainian army.
RMA informed about the overhaul of the Mokretsky Lyceum building in Brovary district as part of a European Investment Bank project. The work began in March 2025. After the renovation is completed, the lyceum will be able to accommodate up to 217 students.
This week, a Kyiv school trained 9th grade students on the risks associated with explosive devices. The Mine Safety: Saved Lives’ project implemented by the NGO Ukrainian Women’s Guard with the support of its partner Nova Ukraine aims to inform civilians about mine risks and develop safe behavioural skills.
The Department of Social and Veteran Policy of Kyiv City State Administration has reported that Kyiv will provide funds to citizens who need temporary rental housing for the period of restoring the housing damaged by russian attacks. In addition to the one-time payment of 10,000 hryvnias.
The Centre for Wildlife Rescue reported that three fox cubs evacuated from a frontline village in Donetsk Oblast were brought to the Kyiv Animal Rescue Centre. The cubs were born in the village, which is now on the frontline. The mother of the cubs died from a dog attack near their burrow. Due to the escalation of the situation, the people who took care of the cubs were forced to leave their homes and handed them over to the ’12 Sentinels’ rescue team.
Zhytomyr oblast
During tactical fire training exercises in Zhytomyr, SES personnel tested the capabilities of fire extinguishing equipment used to eliminate complex fires. In particular, an air-foam and combined fire extinguishing vehicle was involved in the exercise. The rescuers also practised the procedure for conducting a foam attack in various ways. A UAV was used to scout the fire scene using a thermal imager.
The Children of Victory social project, which aims to support the families of servicemen, fallen heroes, veterans, rescuers and police officers, continues in Zhytomyr oblast. This time, the initiative visited the children of the Berdychiv community with an entertainment programme to give positive emotions and distract the children of Ukraine’s defenders from the everyday life of the war.
Sumy oblast
For several months now, russian forces have been conducting offensive operations along the entire front line, including towards Sumy. In total, 67,000 russian military personnel have been concentrated near Ukraine’s northern border. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated this during a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, on 15 May.
The number of fatalities from the missile strike on Sumy community on 14 May has risen to three. russian forces carried out the strike on an industrial facility during the day. Earlier reports mentioned nine injured, two of whom were in critical condition. On 15 May, Sumy community declared a Day of Mourning for the victims.
The State Emergency Service reported that during the night of 15 May, russian forces launched a massive attack on Velyka Chernechchyna village, located in Sumy community. The enemy targeted civilian infrastructure with around 10 strike drones. At the impact sites, a fire broke out, which firefighters battled for more than 12 hours. The blaze covered an area of approximately 6,000 square metres. Rescue teams are currently clearing the rubble at the site of impact.

The Regional Military Administration informed that from the morning of 14 May to the morning of 15 May, russian forces carried out 150 attacks on 41 settlements across 15 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (up to 10 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (more than 20 strikes), UAVs (30 strikes and nearly 20 fragmentation munition drops). Additionally, two missile strikes were carried out on Sumy oblast.
Due to russian shelling of the oblast throughout 14 May, three people were killed and nine were injured. As a result of the strike on Sumy community, three civilians lost their lives, and six others were wounded. In Bilopillia community, two people were injured, while in Nedryhailiv community, one person was wounded.
Over the past day, russian shelling has destroyed an industrial facility and non-residential buildings in Sumy community. In Mykolaiv community, buildings belonging to a food enterprise were damaged. In Nedryhailiv community, a vehicle was affected. In Bilopillia community, private homes and a vehicle were damaged.

Local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organisations from border communities, evacuated 612 people.
According to the Regional Military Administration, as of today, 15 communities in Sumy oblast are within the border zone and are constantly subjected to enemy attacks. More than 4,700 residential buildings have been damaged as a result of the strikes. Thanks to the compensation programme, more than 1,000 families have already received assistance amounting to over UAH 614m.
Children of fallen and missing defenders from Sumy oblast have returned from a free holiday in Turkey. Thirty-five children from various communities in the oblast spent time in the resort town of Side near Antalya. The entire trip was organised by Turkish partners on a complimentary basis.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that throughout 14 May, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (13 strikes), launched FPV-drone attacks (16 strikes), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (33 strikes). Seventeen settlements came under enemy fire. In Vedmedivka village, Semenivka community, two non-residential buildings caught fire due to FPV-drone strikes.
Operational Command ‘North’ informed that as a result of the russian army’s attack on the border area of Chernihiv oblast on 14 May, an enterprise in Huta-Studenetska village and a private house in Yanzhulivka village were damaged.
On 14 May, in Chernihiv oblast, where active combat had previously taken place, sappers from the State Emergency Service discovered and destroyed five munitions from a ‘Hurricane’ multiple launch rocket system.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, reported that in the evening and morning, russian forces launched several attacks on Nikopol region. The strikes targeted the regional centre, Myrove and Marhanets communities. The enemy used artillery and drones.
In Nikopol, a high-rise building and a kindergarten were damaged as a result of the attacks. In the evening and overnight, the enemy struck Mezhova community in Synelnykove region. A cultural centre, shops, vehicles and private houses were damaged.
During the day, the occupiers carried out several more attacks on Nikopol region, by artillery and kamikaze drones. The regional centre, Pokrovske and Marhanets communities were targeted. 2 private houses and infrastructure were damaged. In the evening, russian forces attacked Synelnykove region again. 1 person was killed. Private houses were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
On European Square in Vinnytsia, an exhibition of vyshyvanka of the fallen defenders of Ukraine was opened under the title Heroes Wore Them. The exhibition features 57 vyshyvankas that belonged to soldiers killed on the front line. Each shirt is accompanied by a photo, name and personal story. The exhibition was initiated by the mother of the fallen soldier Pavlo Hrytsan and is dedicated to the memory of her son and other defenders.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, informed that at night, air defence forces shot down russian UAVs over Kirovohrad oblast.
Poltava oblast
According to Poltava RMA, during the night, air defence was active over Poltava oblast. In Lubny region, debris from a downed russian UAV caused a fire at a residential house and a car on private property. The fire was promptly extinguished. Also, other residential buildings and structures were damaged.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, russian forces shelled Huliaipole by artillery. As a result of the attack, private houses were destroyed. Preliminary, there are no casualties reported.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian Defence Forces in Orikhiv region repelled 3 russian attacks near Stepove. No active assault operations were recorded in Huliaipole region.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 14 May, russian forces carried out 500 attacks on 10 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast, including 283 drone strikes on Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on 14 May, russian forces shelled Kutsurub community by artillery and later attacked by FPV drones. There were no casualties reported.
Also, the russian military targeted the coastal waters of Ochakiv community by a drone strike. There were no injuries reported.
Odesa oblast
As reported by the Ukrainian Navy, as of 6am, no enemy ships were observed in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov. Meanwhile, 3 enemy ships were recorded in the Mediterranean Sea, one of which is a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to 8 missiles.
Kherson oblast
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, during the day, russian forces shelled Kherson by artillery. A 49-year-old woman was killed. A criminal investigation has been launched.
The RMA reported that in Beryslav, a cyclist was targeted by a russian drone strike. A 71-year-old man was hospitalised with mine-explosive trauma, concussion and shrapnel wounds to his legs.
The Prosecutor’s Office said that yesterday, russian forces attacked a vehicle transporting humanitarian aid in Beryslav region by a drone. The driver was wounded and is currently hospitalised. A criminal investigation has been initiated.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, stated that on 14 May, 9 people were injured due to russian shelling across 35 settlements in Kherson oblast. Damage was recorded to a high-rise building, 12 private houses and vehicles.
According to the Centre for National Resistance, doctors from russia’s Pskov oblast arrived in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. The medical examinations they conduct are mandatory and are often used as a pretext for the deportation of Ukrainian citizens under the guise of “health improvement”.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
During the morning air raids, the Air Defense Forces were operating in Volyn oblast. Three targets were destroyed. There was no damage or casualties.
Zakarpattia oblast
The title of Hero of Ukraine was awarded to senior soldier Anatolii Tehza, Commander of the Carpathian Sich Tactical Group (posthumously), from the oblast. The Order of the Golden Star will be received by the family of the fallen soldier.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
During the morning air raids, the Air Defense Forces were operating in the oblast. Air targets were destroyed. There was no damage or casualties.
100 FPV drones were handed over to law enforcement officers. Assistance was provided by the Ivano-Frankivsk community.
Lviv oblast
Sergeant Olha, military medic from Strii region, was awarded the For a Life Saved Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Order. She has been performing her mission on the front lines as part of the medical forces since 2024.
Mykhailo Ivanyshchiv, defender from Stryi region, was awarded with the Golden Cross breastplate by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He defends the state as part of the Joint Assault Brigade of the National Police Lyut. He has been serving since March 2023.
Rivne oblast
The Resilience Center of the relocated Bilovodsk Village Military Administration is now operating in a new barrier-free building in Rivne. This is the 1st Resilience Center that the relocated community has opened outside of Kyiv, and the 31st for Rivne oblast as a whole.
Ternopil oblast
The implementation of the City Without Barriers project is underway in Ternopil. The community is working to create a safe path 1.5 km long from the stop near the Halychyna hotel to the junction of Serhii Korol and Volynska streets.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Training courses for family members of military personnel and veterans have been implemented in Khmelnytskyi community. The program covers both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of digital marketing. The courses were initiated by representatives of Khmelnytskyi City Council’s Veterans’ Space Community Center together with the city’s public.
Chernivtsi oblast
In Chernivtsi RMA discussed the further development of the Veteran Hub and improving services for defenders. Participants discussed the key areas of development and functioning of the institution, problematic issues of logistical support and their solutions. Also at the event, mechanisms for increasing the efficiency of providing services to veterans and their family members were identified.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, was held in Ankara. It is noted that the conversation was held in a format closed to the press and lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. In addition to leaders of countries, the meeting was also attended by Yasar Guler, Turkish Minister of National Defense, Ibrahim Kalin, Head of the National Intelligence Service, and Akif Cagatay Kilic, Presidential Advisor for Foreign Policy and Security.
Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, met in Turkey with his colleagues from Germany, Poland, and France, Jean-Noel Barrot, Johann Wadeful and Radoslav Sikorsky, in the Weimar+ format. They discussed strengthening sanctions against russia and additional strengthening for Ukraine.
Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, met with a delegation of the European Union led by Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space. They discussed in detail the enhancement of Ukraine’s defense capabilities as the basis for the security of the entire European continent, as well as the impact of the development of modern technologies on the methods of conducting combat operations.
