The enemy continues attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, while the Defense Forces hold back the invaders, inflicting significant losses on them.
Today, the number of enemy attacks has increased to 91.
The border areas of Chernihiv and Sumy regions continue to suffer from Russian artillery shelling. Several settlements, including Stara Huta, Studenok, Tymofiivka, Bobylivka, and Kamin, were affected by the shelling of the terrorist army today.
The enemy attacked our positions in the Kupiansk sector eight times. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Novoosynove, Kolisnykivka, Zahryzove, and Lozova. Two battles are still ongoing.
In the Lyman sector, enemy units attacked near the settlements of Novoyehorivka, Kopanky, Makiivka, Novoliubivka, Torske, Yampolivka, and Zelena Dolyna. Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian troops have already repelled 19 attacks, with four battles still raging.

In the Pokrovsk sector, since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have already made 39 attempts to push our defenders from their positions near the settlements of Vodyane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Vidrodzhennia, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Kotliarivka, Andriivka, Dachne, and Ulakly. The Defense Forces, holding back the enemy onslaught, have already repelled 27 attacks in this sector. The enemy is suffering heavy losses in manpower.
In the Novopavlivsk sector, the invaders launched six attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Konstiantynopil, Rozlyv, Rozdolne, and Novocheretuvate. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Kharkiv, Hulyaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovske sectors, the enemy has not conducted active operations.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attacks by Russian invaders today, with three battles still ongoing. Additionally, the enemy carried out 13 airstrikes, dropping 21 guided bombs.
State budget expenditures on defense in 2024 amounted to 2.1 trillion hryvnias. The funds were allocated as follows:
- 1.2 trillion UAH – monetary support and salaries for military personnel, officers, police officers, and other employees.
- 627 billion UAH – procurement of military/special equipment, weapons, and ammunition.
- 157 billion UAH – medical and social support, as well as other expenses ensuring the functioning of relevant bodies and formations.
- 82.4 billion UAH – purchase of fuel and lubricants, as well as personal protective equipment (helmets, body armor, and other special gear).
- 37.2 billion UAH – provision of food supplies.
- 13.5 billion UAH – utility payments and services.
The ministry notes that this constitutes 59.7% of the total expenditures of the general fund of the state budget. Security and defense remain an absolute priority and the largest expenditure item in the state budget.
The Ministry of Defense is developing a new winter camouflage uniform for special forces. The suit is designed for field use during winter combat missions by special forces personnel. The new model features improved camouflage elements and design solutions that enhance its masking function. Additionally, the suit’s construction provides maximum freedom of movement, conceals the human outline, and allows it to be worn as outerwear, the ministry emphasized. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
The Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions eight times in the Kupiansk sector near Petropavlivka, Novoosynove, Kolisnykivka, Zahryzove, and Lozova, according to the General Staff. As of 16:00, two battles are still ongoing. In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces did not conduct active operations.
In the Kharkiv sector, the enemy attempted seven unsuccessful assaults on our positions near Vovchansk and Starytsia, according to the Regional Military Administration.
In the Kupiansk sector, the aggressor launched offensive actions near Kutkivka, Kindrashivka, Dvorichna, Petropavlivka, Nova Kruhliaivka, and Bohuslavka. Two battles are still ongoing. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 12 enemy attacks.
Shelling
Three medical workers were injured due to an attack by an enemy FPV drone in Kupiansk. A 43-year-old driver suffered explosive injuries and was hospitalized. A 26-year-old doctor and a 41-year-old paramedic experienced an acute stress reaction.

At 22:55 in the Chuhuiv district, over an open area of the Zmiivska community, air defense forces destroyed an enemy Geran-2 drone, the Regional Military Administration (OVA) reported.
At 19:00, Russian troops shelled the city of Kupiansk in the Kupiansk community. As a result of the attack, a residential building was damaged.
Around 18:30, in the village of Podoly in the Kupiansk district, a Russian FPV drone fell on the territory of a private household. As a result of the explosion, a 58-year-old man sustained injuries, the regional prosecutor’s office reported.
At 16:30, Russian forces shelled Kupiansk using a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). A 67-year-old man was wounded and hospitalized.
At 14:10, in the village of Semenivka, Lozova district, fragments of an enemy drone were found in an open area.
At 13:00, in the village of Prystyn, Kupiansk district, Russian forces attacked with an FPV drone and opened artillery fire. The strikes damaged three private residential houses.
Other
As part of intensified evacuation efforts from the Kupiansk and Borova areas, 89 people (including four children) were evacuated.
The Kharkiv printing house “Factor-Druk” has partially resumed operations. In May last year, the enterprise was severely damaged by a Russian attack. At that time, seven employees were killed, the binding workshop was destroyed, and equipment and book stocks were damaged.
A Russian occupier, with the help of two accomplices, forcibly abducted a 21-year-old woman from the Izium district to Belgorod, where he held her in an apartment for a year and a half, subjected her to beatings and sexual violence, Kharkiv police reported.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
In the Kurakhove area, the Russian army is storming Ukrainian positions with small infantry groups up to 20 times a day. However, Russian forces have made no advances, and battles in the sector are ongoing, reported Oleksandr Nevidomyi, head of the communications department of the 46th Brigade.

Shelling
Two people were injured in Bilytske, Donetsk region, during a city shelling. Additionally, 14 private houses and four vehicles were damaged, as reported by the spokesperson of the regional prosecutor’s office, Anastasia Medvedieva.
Over the past 24 hours, the police recorded 3,092 Russian shelling incidents along the front line and residential areas. The Russian military targeted 8 settlements: the cities of Bilytske, Kostiantynivka, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Toretsk, and the villages of Dovha Balka and Komar. 49 civilian objects were damaged, including 31 residential buildings.


In Kostiantynivka, the enemy struck three times with artillery – two civilians were injured, and 2 apartment buildings, 6 private houses, a cemetery, 9 garages, a car, 2 gas pipelines, and a power line were damaged.
In the village of Komar in the Volnovakha district, the occupiers dropped an aerial bomb “UMPB D-30SN,” damaging 18 private households.
In Myrnohrad, as a result of shelling, 3 private houses were damaged, and in Rodynske, two.
In Bilytske, an enemy drone hit a civilian vehicle – no information about casualties has been reported.
In the city of Rodynske and four villages in Donetsk region, there is no gas supply – the main gas pipeline was damaged due to hostilities, according to the “Donetskoblgaz” company.
Other
All children have been evacuated from Kostiantynivka, reported the head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Vadym Filashkin. Additionally, since January 24, 20 minors have been evacuated from the Komar and Kryvorizka communities, where mandatory evacuation has been declared.
The occupiers in Mariupol are constructing a monument with the Russian coat of arms “Mariupol – City of Military Glory.” This was reported by the city council. It is being built in the square between Petrovskyi Park and the management building of the former Azovmash machine-building plant.
Luhansk oblast
Over the past 24 hours, the Russians stormed the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Novoiehorivka, Novolyubivka, Makiyivka, and Bilohorivka, as well as in the Seredbriansky Forest area. According to the regional military administration, the enemy actively used artillery and directed 172 UAVs. Ukrainian defenders are holding the defense and inflicting losses on the enemy.
In the so-called “LNR,” price restrictions have been imposed on food products for local entrepreneurs, while Russian companies are not subject to these regulations.
In Luhansk, a dispute continues between the occupying authorities and Russian structures over ownership rights to one of the hypermarkets. This may lead to another expropriation of property, the second in the last decade.
After a fatal incident caused by a dog attack in Severodonetsk, the local occupation administration acknowledged that it lacks funding to address the problem, and regulatory acts in the field of stray animal control have been absent for over 10 years.

Kyiv oblast
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported on 29 January that russians attacked Kyiv twice. Air defence forces were operating in the city.
Debris fell in the Desnianskyi district in an open area, setting grass and bushes on fire. There were no casualties.
Debris also fell near a metro station in Darnytskyi district. The drone fragments damaged the fence and a separate building of the Darnytsia depot checkpoint. There were no casualties.
On 29 January, relatives of the POWs and disappeared soldiers of the 47th Separate Mechanised Brigade gathered in front of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War in Kyiv. Most of those present were wives, sisters and mothers of the soldiers. People came to the Coordination Headquarters to remind about their relatives who have been in russian captivity for a long time.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr Regional State Administration reported that during the last year, Zhytomyr oblast spent more than 748 million on countering russian aggression and eliminating the consequences of the war. In particular, UAH 354.7 million was spent to support the security and defence forces. UAH 148.3 million was allocated for the construction of shelters and defences. Another UAH 8.9 million was spent on eliminating the consequences of russian aggression, and UAH 236.3 million was spent on other activities.
In Zhytomyr, a gym for people with disabilities hosts classes for veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war. The gym is barrier-free – it is equipped with a ramp and has a separate entrance for people in wheelchairs. The gym for people with disabilities is located on the territory of the “Dragon” Rowing Federation’s training base. Training sessions for veterans are held twice a week and are free of charge.
Sumy oblast
On 29 January, in one of the settlements of Shostka region, rescuers extinguished a fire that broke out due to a russian shelling. Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Sumy region reported that during the work of the State Emergency Service, the russian military carried out a repeated strike by an FPV-drone on this location. As a result of the attack, a fire engine was damaged. The State Emergency Service employees managed to move to a safe place.
During night and morning, russians carried out 10 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 10 explosions. The attacks targeted Hluhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Bichechky, Krolevets, Seredyna-Buda and Svesa communities.
During the day, russians carried out 71 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 116 explosions. The attacks targeted Yunakivka, Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Hluhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda and Znob-Novhorod communities.

Operational Command ‘North’ reported that on 28 January, the russian army attacked Velyka Zahorivka village, located in Plyskiv community of Nizhyn region in Chernihiv oblast, using drones. There were five explosions, likely caused by Shahed/Geran-type UAVs, resulting in damage to a local industrial facility.
Throughout 28 January, the russian army attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
– Hremiach: 2 explosions, probably an explosive device dropped from a UAV.
– Krasnyi Khutir: 4 explosions, probably by a 120mm mortar.
Semenivka community:
– Liskivshchyna: 3 explosions, probably by a 120mm mortar.
– Prohres: 1 explosion, probably by an FPV-drone.
– Mykolaivka: 3 explosions, probably an explosive device dropped from a UAV.
– Zaliznyi Mist: 13 explosions, probably by a 120mm mortar.
– Tymonovychi: 1 explosion, probably by an FPV-drone; 3 explosions, probably an explosive device dropped from a UAV. A private house was damaged as a result of the shelling.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
At night, the occupiers attacked the Marhanets community of Nikopol region. They dropped a munition from a drone on one of the villages of the community. There were no casualties.
The defenders of the sky were working late at night. Servicemen from the Vostok military group destroyed 3 enemy UAVs over the oblast.
Almost three and a half dozen attacks. The enemy again shelled Nikopol oblast. They fired from artillery, kamikaze drones and dropped ammunition from drones. They targeted the district centre, Marhanets and Myrove communities. Two private houses, 3 outbuildings were damaged, 30 poultry were killed, cars and infrastructure were damaged. Four private houses were damaged as a result of hostile strikes. There were no casualties.
Vinnytsia oblast
Over the past few days, it has become known that eleven defenders from the Vinnytsia oblast were killed. They are Mykola Voloshin, Vitaliy Basarab, Yevhen Shymansky, Valentyn Kosyuk, Serhiy Pidlubnyi, Andriy Palchynskyi, Oleksiy Smirnov, Viktor Shlapak, Ihor Herman, Oleh Patoka and Yaroslav Myroniuk.
The first recruitment centre of the Ukrainian army in the oblast was opened in Vinnytsia. The centre is located in the ASC office. Employees of the centre will help those who wish to join the Armed Forces to choose a position according to their professional abilities and skills and a military unit.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RMA, reported that in Kirovohrad oblast, during an air raid at night, the Air Armed forces destroyed a russian drone. There were no casualties or damage.
Poltava oblast
Poltava oblast has lost a defender of Ukraine. Yevhen Shapoval died on 21 January 2025 while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.
Andrii Taranenko died while performing a combat mission on 18 January 2025 in Donetsk oblast.
Ivan Burda died performing a combat mission on 18 January 2025 in Kharkiv oblast.
Volodymyr Marienko died on 22 January 2025 as a result of being hit by an FPV barrage munition from the russian army in Kursk oblast.
Senior soldier Troyan Ruslan was killed on 13 March 2022 while performing a combat mission near the village of Rubizhne, Luhansk oblast.
Soldiers from Kremenchuk, Oleksandr Vasylenko and Volodymyr Heorhitsa, were posthumously awarded the Order of Courage. They were presented to the relatives of the fallen defenders. Oleksandr Vasylenko was killed on 12 February 2024 near the village of Bohdanivka, Donetsk oblast. Volodymyr Heorhitsa died on 15 June 2024 while performing a combat mission near the city of Vovchansk, Kharkiv oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
A fallen soldier, Artur Tymoshenko, was buried in Cherkasy oblast. Artur Tymoshenko was killed on 18 January 2025 in a fierce battle with the russian army in Sumy oblast. He was 32 years old.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Yesterday, the occupiers launched 450 attacks on eight settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy carried out 16 airstrikes on Mala Tokmachka. 216 UAVs of various modifications targeted Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Six MLRS strikes hit Kamianske, Prymorske, and Novodanylivka. Additionally, 212 artillery strikes were directed at Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Twenty-one reports were received regarding the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure. One person was injured in an enemy strike on Vasylivka region.
Over the past day, the enemy attacked the area near Novosilka five times. According to the Southern Defense Forces, russian troops continue conducting engineering and aerial reconnaissance in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions.
Mykolaiv oblast
On the evening of 28 January, around 8:00 p.m., the enemy launched a missile strike on a food industry enterprise in Mykolaiv, presumably using an Iskander-M ballistic missile. The attack claimed the lives of two women, employees of the enterprise. The strike partially destroyed the workshop building and damaged the administrative building.

Yesterday, the enemy attacked the waters of Ochakiv community six times with FPV drones and targeted Kutsurub community once. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
During the night of 29 January, russia attacked Izmail region with strike drones. As a result of the attack, port infrastructure facilities were damaged. Relevant services are working on eliminating the consequences, and law enforcement officers are documenting the aftermath.
As of 6:00 a.m., there was one enemy carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles in the Black Sea. There were six enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, including two equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles with a combined salvo capacity of up to 22 missiles.
Over the past day, two ships passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in russia’s interests, and another ten vessels passed into the Sea of Azov.
Kherson oblast
Around 10:00, russians attacked a residential building in Blahovishchenske. As a result of the shelling, a 23-year-old resident was killed.
Around 8:00 in the morning, russians attacked Antonivka using UAVs. A 52-year-old man was killed due to an explosive dropped from a drone.
Today, russians targeted Kherson using UAVs. As a result of the attack, a 75-year-old resident suffered explosive trauma and shrapnel wounds to his leg.
A woman was injured in Beryslav due to the detonation of a russian anti-personnel mine, the “Lepestok.” The 75-year-old resident suffered explosive trauma and a partial amputation of her right foot.
At 12:30, the occupiers attacked an elderly man in Kindiika using a drone. A 76-year-old resident suffered explosive trauma and shrapnel wounds to his legs.

As a result of the attacks, 2 apartment buildings and 19 private houses, a gas pipeline, a garage, a warehouse, and vehicles were damaged. 2 people were killed, and another 14 were injured due to Russian aggression.
Over the past day enemy losses amounted to 61 personnel, 6 artillery systems and mortars, 10 vehicles, 4 strike UAVs (Shahed-136 type), 2 reconnaissance UAVs of unspecified types, 1 boat, 2 motorcycles, and 1 quad bike, generators, 2 surveillance cameras, 4 Starlink terminals, 2 electronic warfare stations, and a generator Also 23 enemy shelters and fortifications, 2 firing positions, 1 observation post, 1 ammunition storage site, and 11 communication antennas were destroyed.
Police in Beryslav region evacuated an elderly couple from the frontline village of Novooleksandrivka. The 84-year-old residents had been living alone but had resisted leaving their home. However, due to constant russian shelling and the lack of necessary medical and social assistance, they decided to relocate to a specialized geriatric facility.

Zakarpattia oblast
Activists of the Mukachevo Drones project hand over a russian herbera imitation drone to the War Museum in Palanok Castle. It was shot down by the 70th Battalion of the 101st Territorial Defense in Sumy Oblast.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Prykarpattia will receive over UAH 10m in subventions in 2025 to support the activities of specialists in supporting war veterans and demobilized persons. The selection of candidates for the position of specialist in supporting war veterans and demobilized persons according to updated standards continues until 31 January.
Lviv oblast
Lviv City Council held a meeting with representatives of the Canadian Red Cross, which cooperates with Lviv city hospitals. They discussed further partnership in the field of mental health and training for nurses. For about three years, the Canadian Red Cross has been financially supporting the work of psychotherapists of the First Medical Association of Lviv, who work with IDPs Ukrainians, civilians affected by the war and wounded soldiers.
Families of 50 fallen Heroes received the Order of the Cross of the Brave on behalf of the command of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade of King Danylo. The commemoration of the fallen brothers and sisters took place in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
Rivne oblast
A meeting with the families of missing soldiers took place in Rivne. This initiative was implemented by the Headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief together with the General Staff and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Ternopil oblast
In Ternopil community, 196 military personnel will receive a one-time cash payment for the purchase of equipment and technical means. The amount of cash assistance is UAH 10,000.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
At night, during an air alert signal, the Air Defense Forces destroyed 1 enemy Shahed UAV. There were no injuries, deaths or damage.
In Khmelnytskyi community, 4 new 0.2 MW cogeneration units worth UAH 2,5m have been put into operation at boiler houses thanks to the USAID.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA held a meeting with the management and employees of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Chernivtsi oblast. They discussed work on the prevention and elimination of emergency situations in the oblast.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Spain will allocate €10m in humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This amount will be added to the €100m that Madrid has provided to Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion.
Spain will send its team of medical trainers to Ukraine to conduct training for medical workers at a Ukrainian hospital.
The Foreign Ministry of Spain noted that almost 7,000 Ukrainian military personnel have already been trained in Spain.
