What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 21 June, the number of the aggressor’s attacks stood at 66.

Artillery shellings of border areas continue. In Sumy oblast, the settlements of Korenok, Neskuchne, Ryzhivka, Bunyakyne, Novovasylivka, and Svoboda came under fire. The areas near the settlements of Luzhky and Hirky were hit by enemy airstrikes.

  • Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, one combat engagement took place with the enemy, and the adversary carried out 16 shellings of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.
  • Towards Southern Sloboda, the invaders made four attempts to break through the defense near Izbytske, Starytsia, and Vovchansk. One battle is still ongoing.
  • Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked the positions of the Defense Forces once near Kurylivka.
  • Towards Lyman, Ukrainian warriors repelled 10 attempts by the invaders to advance near the settlements of Novoselivka, Yampil, and Ozerne, Olhivka, Drobysheve, and Dibrova. Two combat engagements are ongoing.
  • Towards Slovyansk, the Defense Forces successfully halted six attempts by the invaders to push forward near Kalenyky, Zakitne, Rai-Oleksandrivka and Pyskunivka.
  • Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy attempted to advance once near the settlement of Minkivka.
  • Towards Kostiantynivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks near the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Sofiivka, and Kucheriv Yar. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
  • Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers attempted 15 times to dislodge Ukrainian warriors from their positions near the settlements of Novoselivka, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novyi Donbas, Bilytske, and Shevchenko. Three attacks are ongoing.
  • Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy attempted to advance once near Sichneve.
  • Towards Huliaipole, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 15 enemy attacks near the settlements of Dobropillia, Huliaipilske, Vozdvyzhivka, and Charivne. Three combat engagements are ongoing.
  • Towards Orikhiv, the enemy conducted one assault operation near Stepnohirsk.
  • Towards Kherson, no enemy attempts to advance have been recorded.

In other directions, there are currently no significant changes in the situation. Enemy attempts to advance are not being recorded.

Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of combat engagement and in the rear.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports in its briefing as of 16:00 that towards Southern Sloboda, Russia made three attempts to break through the defense in the areas of Izbytske, Starytsia, and Vovchansk. Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers launched a single attack near Kurylivka. One battle is still ongoing.

There were 213 combat engagements in the oblast.

Towards Southern Sloboda, Ukrainian units repelled 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Vilcha, Starytsia, Izbytske, and Zybine.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked three times near Kivsharivka, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, and Novoplatonivka.

Ihor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv, reports that a strike by a russian drone was recorded in the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv. The drone hit a shopping center parking lot. Details are being clarified.

In the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv, a Molniya UAV struck a 12-story residential building. According to Terekhov, the strike occurred between the top two floors. Windows were blown out in the building.

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the community, informs that at around 05:40 on 21 June, a Molniya drone attacked Zolochiv. A two-story apartment building, the facades of two shops, a pharmacy, and power lines were damaged. There are no casualties.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports that on 20 June, a russian drone of an unestablished type attacked a civilian car in the village of Mlynky, Kupiansk region. Two boys aged 2 and 6, a 17-year-old girl, and a 38-year-old man were injured.

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 19 settlements in the region came under enemy fire. As a result of the shellings, one person was killed and 13 others were injured, including four children.

  • Mlynky (Shevchenkove community): Five people were injured, including four children.
  • Bohodukhiv: Women aged 32 and 61, and a 66-year-old man, suffered an acute stress reaction. An apartment building, a gas station, and a truck were damaged.
  • Near Skovorodynivka (Zolochiv community): A 54-year-old woman was killed on the road, and a 54-year-old man was injured. A car was also damaged.
  • Near Hubarivka: A 40-year-old man was injured.
  • Peresichne: A 60-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction. An outbuilding was damaged.
  • Berezivka: A 56-year-old man was injured.
  • Havrylivka: A 44-year-old man was injured.

According to Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, the russian army deployed the following weapons in the region over the past day:

  • 5 Geran-2 type UAVs
  • 1 Lancet type UAVs
  • 17 Molniya type UAVs
  • 6 FPV drones
  • 33 drones of an unestablished type

Apart from the damaged apartment building in Kharkiv, destruction was recorded across several regions:

  • Bohodukhiv region: An administrative building, power lines, and a gas station were damaged in Zolochiv; two gas stations in Hubarivka and Sukhyny; power lines in Klenove; and a garage in Petrivka.
  • Kupiansk region: Two cars were damaged in Prykolotne and Mlynky.
  • Izium region: A municipal service building was damaged in Barvinkove; a fuel tanker in Havrylivka; and an educational institution, three private houses, a car, and a tractor in Buhaivka.
  • Kharkiv region: A postal terminal was damaged in Novyi Korotych; six trucks, a service station, and a garage in Vilshany.

Oleksandra Shchebilova, a 21-year-old rescue worker who lost her arm as a result of a repeated russian strike on Kharkiv on the night of 15 June, has been transported to the “Superhumans” Center in Lviv for treatment, prosthetics, and rehabilitation.

During an FPV drone attack, police officers evacuated a 70-year-old woman from Slatyne, Derhachi community. Despite the threat of repeated strikes, the evacuation was successfully completed. The woman was brought to a coordination center.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova accommodated 200 people over the past day. In total, 41,422 evacuated people have been registered there since it began operating.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that over the past day, the russian army carried out 21 assaults towards Lyman. Ukrainian military repelled attacks near Druzheliubivka, Yampil, Shyikivka, Olhivka, Novoselivka, Drobysheve, Derylove, and Lyman.

Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers conducted 33 assaults. The Defense Forces repelled another 14 attacks towards Slovyansk.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that on the night of 21 June, the Defense Forces hit a russian army drone control post in Komar.

Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, informs that in temporarily occupied Horlivka, the Ukrainian military hit a fuel tanker intended for the russian army.

The Third Army Corps reports that a wounded man and a civilian woman were evacuated from Lyman using a ground robotic complex. Servicemen helped place the injured man on the platform since he was unable to move on his own.

Vadym Liakh, Head of the City Military Administration, reports that three people were injured as a result of the russian shelling of Slovyansk. Russian troops struck a residential neighborhood with rocket artillery. An 89-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital.

Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office clarified that the city was attacked with a Tornado-S MLRS equipped with a high-explosive warhead. Women aged 30 and 89, as well as a 31-year-old man, sustained injuries.

Donetsk Regional Police report that at 02:11, the russian army attacked Druzhkivka with an FPV drone, injuring one person. Kramatorsk also came under fire.

Throughout 20 June, the police recorded 1,183 Russian strikes on the territory of the oblast. Eleven settlements were under fire. Sixty-one civilian objects sustained destruction, 44 of which are residential buildings.

  • Druzhkivka: A civilian was injured as a result of an FPV drone strike.
  • Kramatorsk: Russian troops attacked with four drones, damaging an apartment building.
  • Mykolaivka: The occupiers launched a strike with 12 FAB-250 guided aerial bombs, damaging eight apartment buildings and 25 private houses.
  • Slovyansk: The Russian army attacked with a Smerch MLRS and drones. An apartment building, five private houses, and two civilian cars were damaged.
  • Samiilivka: Russian troops directed two “Molniya-2” drones at the village, destroying three private houses and a civilian car.

Petro Andriushchenko, Head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, informs that russian occupiers are painting military trucks and fuel tankers blue for transit through Mariupol. The equipment moves in small columns accompanied by the Rosgvardia or mobile fire teams.

 

Luhansk oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that over the past day, Russian troops attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 21 times near eight settlements Towards Lyman. Additionally, the occupiers directed 17 drones at Ukrainian fortifications in Luhansk oblast, struck seven times with tube artillery, and used automatic grenade launchers twice.

Luhansk Oblast Military Administration informs that the russian authorities in occupied Luhansk oblast are in no hurry to repair critical infrastructure facilities after they sustain damage. This especially applies to settlements near the front line. For instance, residents of the Svatove area remain without proper repairs to their electricity and water supply systems. No evacuation of the population is being announced; instead, people are advised to store water and wait for the situation to improve.

In the so-called “lpr,” documents related to the war crimes of russian servicemen continue to accumulate. According to available data, nearly 2,000 documents from over 800 cases are already stored in local archives. Most of them remain on-site and could serve as an evidentiary base in the future for investigating crimes committed during the occupation.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that on the afternoon of 20 June, russian troops attacked Kyiv oblast with drones. As a result of a fire in the Boryspil district, which broke out during the shelling, a man suffered smoke poisoning. Three people were injured in the Vyshhorod district. 

In the Boryspil district, a fire broke out at some warehouses as a result of russian shelling on 20 June. Firefighters contained the blaze. Emergency services worked to deal with the aftermath of the attack.

Buchy Territorial Community. Buchy Lyceum No. 5 received a powerful 88 kW generator from partners in Romania. In addition, a major overhaul of the water supply system has been completed in the Babynets Starosty. The project was implemented by the town council in collaboration with the Ukrainian Red Cross, with financial support from international partners.

Zhytomyr oblast

The ‘Echoes of Voices’ memorial festival took place in the Park of the Unconquered in the Bronikivska community, a few kilometres from Zviahel. The event was dedicated to honouring those who fell in the russian-Ukrainian war. During the event, participants planted trees in honour of the fallen soldiers, presented works of art and raised money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On 19 June, 10 teenagers from the Zhytomyr community set off for a holiday in Berlin, Germany, as part of a cultural exchange programme between the two countries. These are children from families of internally displaced persons, military personnel and servicemen who died fighting for Ukraine. Throughout the year, the teenagers attended classes at the local ‘Sviti’ centre. In Berlin, the children will visit many tourist attractions and a number of cultural and educational organisations.

Sumy oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that since the beginning of the day, the russian army has been carrying out drone attacks across Sumy oblast, including on Sumy.

In the morning, russian forces launched an artillery strike on Sumy. According to preliminary information, impacts were recorded at six locations in Kovpakivskyi district of the city. At least five buildings were damaged.

At least eight people were injured in the attack. One woman was hospitalised, while several others received medical assistance at the scene. A man was also reported injured.  The roof of one of the houses sustained significant damage. According to local residents, the property had already been damaged during previous russian attacks.

Due to the shelling, rescuers evacuated around 50 residents from an apartment building. Explosive ordnance disposal units were working at the strike sites. During the morning shelling of Sumy, a fragment of a russian projectile struck the window of a flat. According to the owner, Yurii Klymenko, the fragment was stopped by a Ukrainian flag hanging in the window.

In Okhtyrka community, one of the strikes was recorded in a private residential area. The attack caused a fire in a residential house. No casualties were reported. Another drone exploded near a forest area when a man approached it. The injured man was hospitalised.

In Shostka region, russian forces carried out a repeated strike on the site of a fire that rescuers were extinguishing following an earlier attack. As a result of the strike, a fire engine tanker caught fire. No personnel were injured.

Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that over the past 24 hours, russian forces attacked 14 communities across the oblast. Damage was recorded in nine communities. One person was killed and 19 others were injured.

In Sumy community, a man was killed in a guided aerial bomb strike. A child and a woman were also injured, while four other people suffered blast-related injuries. Another woman was injured in drone attacks.

In Velyka Pysarivka community, a man was injured after explosives were dropped from a drone.

In Znob-Novhorodske community, a man was injured when a UAV struck a vehicle.

In Trostianets community, a woman was injured in a drone strike, while another person suffered an acute stress reaction.

In Berezivka community, two men sustained blast-related injuries following a UAV attack.

Another man was injured in Seredyna-Buda community.

Chernihiv oblast

Enemy forces carried out two drone attacks on Semenivka community in Chernihiv oblast. The strikes damaged civilian infrastructure facilities, a forestry enterprise and a tractor. No casualties were reported.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 20 June, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar attacks (30 explosions), artillery strikes (10 explosions), FPV drone attacks (7 explosions), and Molniya-type UAV attacks (2 explosions). Seven settlements came under enemy fire.

Olha Kachura, Director of Sokhachi House of Culture, said that paintings by local self-taught artist Anatolii Knyr are being sold in Sokhachi village, Chernihiv oblast. The proceeds will be used to fund the production of camouflage nets for defence needs. Some of the artworks will remain in the village in memory of the artist. Anatolii Knyr died a year ago.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that a 70-year-old woman was killed in an FPV drone strike in Myrivska community on the evening of 20 June.

The enemy attacked the regional centre, as well as Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural, Marhanets and Myrove communities by drones. Four holiday homes, a scooter and a disused building were damaged.

A person was injured in a UAV attack in Shakhtarske. A lyceum caught fire.

Vasylkivka community came under a guided aerial bomb strike. Two people were injured. A fire broke out, one house was destroyed, and 11 more houses, two vehicles and a gas pipeline were damaged.

Pokrovske community was also attacked by guided aerial bombs. Six people were injured. A gymnasium building was destroyed and two vehicles were damaged.

An artillery strike on Hrushivka community damaged a private residential house and an outbuilding.

Five people were injured, including a two-and-a-half-year-old boy. The enemy attacked the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural, Marhanets and Myrove communities by drones and artillery. A fire broke out. Three private houses, an outbuilding, a lorry and a gas pipeline were damaged.

The occupiers also launched UAV strikes on Kryvyi Rih, Shyroke and Zelenodolsk communities. A field caught fire. Two private residential houses, an enterprise and a gas pipeline were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

Two houses were damaged in Vinnytsia oblast as a result of today’s attack. Windows were shattered, slate roofing was damaged, and two vehicles and a fence were affected. The blast wave also damaged the local House of Culture, where window glazing was broken.

Kirovohrad oblast

As a result of the overnight attack in Kirovohrad oblast, a number of private households were damaged. The damage mainly involved shattered windows, damaged roofs and fences. 

Poltava oblast

Poltava Regional Military Administration informed that the enemy attacked Poltava region on 20 June. Strikes were recorded on the premises of two enterprises. Enterprise buildings, vehicles and nearby residential houses were damaged. The number of injured has risen to 14, including six children. One body was recovered from under the rubble, while another person died in hospital. The attack also caused an emergency power outage.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, said that a russian missile was shot down over Cherkasy oblast during the night. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, 21 June, the russian army attacked Zaporizhzhia with UAVs. One strike hit a gas station. According to the head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, two people were injured.

The head of the RMA, Ivan Fedorov, also reported that today, 21 June, russian forces attacked Kushuhum in Zaporizhzhia oblast with an FPV drone. One person was injured.

Five people were killed, and another thirteen were injured as a result of russian attacks on the regional center and the Zaporizhzhia region on 20 June. According to Ivan Fedorov, the russian army launched more than 840 strikes across Zaporizhzhia oblast, using aviation, UAVs of various modifications (mostly FPV drones), MLRS, and artillery.

On 20 June, russian forces struck an equestrian sports club on Khortytsia Island in Zaporizhzhia. According to the facility’s director, Yevheniia Navolochka, three animals were killed and another three sustained injuries of varying severity. Veterinarians are currently fighting to save them.

According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 21 June, Ukraine’s Defense Forces successfully repelled 15 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Dobropillia, Huliaipilske, Vozdvyzhivka, and Charivne towards Huliaipole. Three combat engagements are ongoing. The enemy launched an assault on Ukrainian defensive positions near Stepnohirsk towards Orikhiv. Yesterday, 20 June, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled 25 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv.

The General Staff also reported that on the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia oblast, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a railway bridge near Peterskhahen. Ukrainian defenders also carried out strikes against UAV command posts near Myrne and Novoivanivka. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Mykolaiv oblast

On 20 June, the russian army attacked Kutsurub community with a Molniya-type drone. As a result, three men aged 38, 40, and 45 were injured in the village of Parutyne. According to the Regional Military Administration, two of them were hospitalized, and their condition as of the morning was stable and of moderate severity. The attack also damaged a bakery, two passenger vehicles, and one cargo truck.

Odesa oblast

An explosion was heard in Odesa during an air raid alert in the evening of 21 June. The air raid alert was declared four times: at 12:19, 16:55, 19:35, and 20:47. The explosion occurred during the last alert. At that time, the Air Force warned of a high-speed target heading toward Odesa oblast.

As reported by Izmail RMA, on the night of 21 June, the russian army attacked Izmail region. One of the strikes hit the village of Matroska. As a result of the attack, an outbuilding caught fire. There were no deaths or injuries as a result of the strike.

Kherson oblast

According to the Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, around 10:00 on 21 June, russian forces attacked Sofiivka in Stanislav community using a UAV. As a result of the strike, a 42-year-old woman received fatal injuries.

Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that at midday, russians attacked a man in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with a drone. A 61-year-old resident sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his legs.

According to Kherson RMA, yesterday, 20 June, the russian army attacked Beryslav, Antonivka, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Dniprovske, Veletynske, Havrylivka, Dudchany, Borozenske, Zelenivka, Zolota Balka, Kalynivske, Kachkarivka, Kyselivka, Komyshany, Kostyrka, Krasnosilske, Kucherske, Mykilske, Mylove, Mykhailivka, Oleksandrivka, Poniativka, Prydniprovske, Rakivka, Sadove, Sofiivka, Stanislav, Tarasa Shevchenka, Tomaryne, Tiahynka, Urozhaine, Khreshchenivka, Chaichyne, Charivne, Shyroka Balka, and the city of Kherson. As a result of the attacks, an apartment building, 22 private houses, a communication tower, a gas pipeline, outbuildings, agricultural machinery, and a private vehicle were damaged. One person was killed, and nine others were injured due to russian aggression.

Residents of Velyka Lepetykha community, benefactors, and the teaching staff, students, and parents of the Velyka Lepetykha flagship lyceum organized a fundraising effort for Father’s Day to support the soldiers of the Defense Forces. As part of the charitable campaign “Box of Gratitude for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” they assembled packages containing food, sleeping bags, and essential items.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of Huto-Kaminska School to Serhii Melnyk, its graduate, Defender of Ukraine. The consequences of his military service undermined the soldier’s health. On 11January 2025, his heart stopped beating.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod City Council reported that the III degree For Courage Order was awarded to relatives of Borys Barcha, deceased Senior Soldier of the Military Unit A4355.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The season of excursion tours to the Carpathian region for native Heroes is underway. As part of the project Caring for the Hero’s Family 18 native servicemen from Mateyvets community took part in a journey through Hutsul region.

Lviv oblast

As part of the project, Lviv National Academic Male Choir Dudaryk presented spiritual and folk musical heritage at landmark concerts in the Cathedral of St. Anastasia in Zadar and in the atrium of the Zagreb City Museum. In addition, an exhibition of paintings by the prominent Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Patyk was opened in the City Loggia of Zadar.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast was subjected to an enemy air attack at night. There is a power outage in Sarny region. Power engineers are working to restore power supply. No people were injured.

Ternopil oblast

The 105th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade received FPV drones General Chereshnia thanks to funds from the campaign Plant a Tree – Support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community has additionally allocated almost UAH 15m for healthcare. In particular, for the purchase of equipment for institutions where wounded soldiers are treated.

Chernivtsi oblast

The Bukovina Brigade trained sergeants for 2 brigades of airborne assault troops at once. The certificates were received by soldiers of the 82nd and 68th Oleksa Dovbush Airmobile Brigades.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Dan Jarvis, UK Defense Secretary, stated that 150,000 UAVs worth 752m pounds will be delivered from the UK to Ukraine by the end of the year. In addition to the drones, Ukraine will also be given 350 air defense missiles and radars. The package, worth almost $1bn, is funded by proceeds from confiscated russian assets.
