What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back russian occupiers and are taking all necessary measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory.

On 19 April, the total number of combat engagements was 59.

As a result of enemy artillery and mortar shelling, the communities of the settlements of Ulanove, Lezhachi, Taratutine, Stepok, Prokhody, Reviakyne, Petrushivka, Novodmytrivka, Pokrovka, Turya in the Sumy region; Luhivka, Tymofiivka in Kharkiv oblast; Yanzhulivka in Chernihiv oblast were affected. The enemy also carried out airstrikes on the vicinity of the settlements of Riasne, Velykyi Prykil, Stepok and Myropilske in Sumy oblast.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy attacked the positions of our units near Vovchansk once.

Towards Kupiansk, russian invaders carried out five attacks near Zahryzove, Kindrashivka and Petropavlivka. Two combat clashes are ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invader army carried out six attacks on the positions of Ukrainian soldiers near Novomykhailivka and towards the settlements of Hrekivka, Hlushchenkove and Olhivka. Three battles are ongoing.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy tried to break through UKrainian defenses in the vicinity of Toretsk, Dachne and near Diliivka. The defense forces repelled all nine enemy assaults.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian invaders have made 13 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Novotoretsk, Svyrydonivka, Malynovka, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Kotliarivka and Andriivka. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught – seven attacks have already been repelled, six more battles are ongoing.

Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy assaults. The enemy tried to advance in the vicinity of Konstantinopol, Pryvilne and Novosilka.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched airstrikes on the settlements of Huliaipole, Zaliznychne and Novodarivka.

Towards Orikhiv, the invaders launched three attacks near Mala Tokmachka and Novoandriivka. Airstrikes were carried out on Lukianivske, Pavlovka, Stepnohirsk, Kamianske and Novoiakovlivka.

Towards Siversk, Kramatorsk and Kherson, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.

The operation in Kursk oblast is ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers repelled ten enemy attacks today, two more battles are ongoing. The invaders’ aviation launched ten strikes in this direction, dropping 13 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the enemy carried out 196 artillery attacks, including seven from multiple launch rocket systems.

There were no significant changes in other areas.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that 277 Ukrainian servicemen were released from captivity. Of these, 246 were released as part of the prisoner exchange, another 31 people were released outside the exchange.

the Air Force states that on the night of April 19, Russia launched 95 air attack weapons over the territory of Ukraine – 8 missiles of various types and 87 strike UAVs. It was possible to shoot down 33 drones, another 36 were recognized as “lost in location.”

 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops seven times in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Zapadne and towards Mala Shapkivka.

Oleg Synehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, informs that towards Kupiansk, there were 11 attacks on April 18. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Zahryzove, Petropavlivka and towards Pishchane and Nova Kruhlyakivka.

The operational-tactical group Kharkiv informs that on April 18, Ukrainian defenders towards Kharkiv destroyed and damaged more than 110 units of weapons and equipment of the invaders, including more than fifty drones, and also eliminated 84 russian military personnel.

The Khortytsia operational-strategic group of troops reported that on April 18, towards Kupiansk, near Novoplatonivka, russian troops attacked the defensive fortifications of Ukrainian troops on five ATVs. All motorcycles, along with the attack aircraft, were destroyed.

 

Shelling

Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that at dawn on April 19, russian troops launched airstrikes on Kupiansk. As a result of the attack, five civilians suffered acute stress reactions, and more than ten private houses and outbuildings were damaged. Over the course of 24 hours, russian troops dropped 10 guided aerial bombs on the city, including the ODAB-1500 volumetric detonation aerial bomb.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that emergency and rescue operations have been completed in Kharkiv after an enemy strike with ballistic missiles, with which russian troops attacked civilians on Good Friday. As a result of the missile strike, 1 person died, 114 were injured, including 9 children. Psychologists of the State Emergency Service provided assistance to 150 victims.

In Kharkiv on April 18, a 79-year-old man who was sleeping in his room at home died from shrapnel from a russian shelling. The russian military fired three Iskander cluster bombs at Osnovianskyi district of the city. One of the missiles exploded over a residential area.

According to information from Oleh Synehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, as a result of the shelling of Kharkiv on April 18, fifty apartment buildings were damaged, as well as more than 30 cars, 18 people are in Kharkiv hospitals.

According to information from Oleh Synehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, shooting of  Kharkiv oblast by the russian military during the day on April 18:

At 17:26, as a result of shelling of Kupiansk, the structures of three outbuildings with a total area of ​​300 sq m were set on fire by GABs.

At 15:58, in Starosaltivsk community of Chuhuiiv region, a private house in the village of Shestakove was damaged as a result of shelling by a UAV.

At 15:57, the russian military attacked Kindrashivka community of Kupiansk region. As a result of shelling from the Lancet UAV, a house in the village of Nechvolodyvka was damaged.

At 15:38, the enemy shelled Velykoburlutsk community of Kupiansk region. As a result of the impact of the GAB, a residential building with an area of ​​80 sq.m. and grass with an area of ​​1 ha in the village of Stetskivka burned.

At 14:28, in the village of Podoly, Kurylivska community, Kupiansk region, a 60-year-old woman was injured as a result of shelling from an FPV drone. She received an explosive injury.

At 14:20, the enemy attacked Zolochiv community, Bohodukhiv region. A car was burning in the village of Tsapivka on an area of ​​50 sq. m.

At 13:41, the russian military attacked Shevchenko community, Kupiansk region. As a result of shelling from MLRS in the village of Berezivka, a private house and a barn were damaged.

At 10:18, in the village of Sadovod, Velykoburlutska community, a house on an area of ​​40 sq. m. was burned as a result of russian shelling. Three people were injured, suffering from acute stress reactions.

At 10:13, the enemy launched a missile strike on Borova community, Izium region. As a result of the impact in the village of Horokhovatka, a car burned over an area of ​​6 sq. m. A woman was injured, suffering an acute stress reaction.

Other

Oleg Synegubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, reports that 10 people were evacuated from Kupiansk and the village of Kupiansk-Vuzlovy using armored vehicles. All will be provided with the necessary assistance, support and shelter.

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the sappers of the State Emergency Service continue to clear the territory of Kharkiv oblast from explosive objects. In their work, they use the Japanese Nikken-V35 machine, which minimizes risks for sappers and effectively neutralizes mines and shells, even in difficult conditions.

The State Emergency Service reported that 10 Tesla Powerwall 2.0 energy-saving systems were transferred to educational institutions in Berestyn, Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv and Chuhuiv regions of Kharkiv oblast. The equipment will be able to ensure uninterrupted educational processes in shelters during long-term power outages.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Dmytro Zaporozhets, Spokesman for Luhansk OTU, informs that russian troops are actively trying to storm the central part of the city of Toretsk, and are also actively storming towards Dachne, Diliivka and Krymske using motorized vehicles. Over the past day, 29 units of motorized vehicles were destroyed in the operational zone, the majority of the equipment in the northern part of Toretsk direction.

The press service of the Khortytsia operational-strategic grouping of troops informs that towards Pokrovsk, a Ukrainian drone struck an armored train of russian troops. The targeted drone strike on the enemy armored train was carried out by the Asmodeus Crew from the EWOKS unmanned systems battalion.  

The Chervona Kalyna brigade reported that in the large-scale Russian assault that took place on April 17 towards Pokrovsk, the russian army lost 229 russian soldiers killed, another 34 wounded, and 125 units of equipment. According to the brigade, the Ukrainian military destroyed 24 armored combat vehicles, 99 motorcycles, and 2 units of automotive equipment.

Shelling

Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office reported that on April 19, two men were injured as a result of shelling of the city of Kostiantynivka. A 38-year-old city resident who was at home was injured in the shelling at 09:45. At 10:20, russian troops attacked the city again, during which a 68-year-old pensioner was injured – a mine-explosive injury and a cut wound. The russian military used a high-explosive aircraft bomb FAB-250 with a universal planning and correction module.

Vadim Filashkin, Head of the RMA, says that on April 18, russians killed one resident of Donetsk oblast, and two more people were injured. In total, russians shelled settlements in Donetsk oblast 17 times over the past 24 hours. 289 people, including 95 children, were evacuated from the front line.

Due to enemy shelling on April 18 in Pokrovsk region: 3 private houses, an enterprise and 4 cars were damaged in Novo Donbas of Dobropillia community, one house was destroyed and one was damaged in Rodynske, a shop was damaged in Myrnohrad.

In Kramatorsk region: in Lyman, a multi-storey building, a private house and a garage were damaged; in Nove, a person died; in Sloviansk, a 4-storey building, a warehouse and 3 cars were damaged; in Torka 3 houses, an infrastructure facility and a car were damaged; in Oleksandro-Kalynove, Illinivka community 2 people were injured, 1 facility was damaged; in Kostiantynivka 5 private houses, a garage and 7 infrastructure facilities were damaged.

Due to shelling by the russian army of  Bakhmatske region on April 18, 12 houses in Siversk were damaged.

Luhansk oblast

Luhansk Regional Military Administration reports that the enemy has concentrated on capturing Lyman. It attacked near Hrekivka and Nadiia – the Ukrainian defenders did not allow it to advance there. The enemy had aviation and artillery support: it fired 30 times from artillery, twice from rockets, and also carried out an air strike. The Russians directed 167 drones at Ukrainian positions in the indicated direction.

Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that russian occupiers in part of the captured Luhansk region “nationalized” more than 114 thousand real estate objects belonging to Ukrainians and legal entities registered in Ukraine. The list includes property whose ownership rights were not confirmed by people who evacuated to safe regions of Ukraine and abroad within 30 days from the date of its discovery by the invaders.

The Center for National Resistance reported that in temporarily occupied Donetsk, russian occupiers have begun seizing property from small businesses. Armed men seized several retail outlets in the city. They forcibly evicted employees, took away goods, and confiscated all equipment.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the air alert in Kyiv was declared 15 times during the week. The enemy attacked the capital using attack drones. As a result of the russian attacks, three residents of the capital were injured, 15 buildings of various types and 3 cars were damaged.

Fastiv community is creating a new generation of innovative educational space – an initiative implemented jointly with U-LEAD with Europe. This is a project to reconstruct gymnasium No. 10, damaged by russian shelling in 2022, to turn it into a modern, inclusive space for learning, development and leisure.

The locations, arranged as part of the social project Kyiv Oblast. Places of Memory’ were visited by members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy. This is a route through the places in the oblast where the main events of resistance to russian troops took place in the spring of 2022. The project aims to preserve the memory of these events and tell the truth that cannot be ignored.

Police officers from Kyiv oblast baked two hundred Easter cakes at the Factory Kitchen for colleagues who are at the front or undergoing rehabilitation after being wounded.

Czech scouts visit Plast training centre in Bucha to share experience and scouting traditions.

Zhytomyr oblast

During the week from 11 to 17 April, at least 31 soldiers from different communities in Zhytomyr oblast were reported dead, according to open sources. Among them are, in particular, the commander of the military unit Yurii Yula, soldiers who were reported missing and those who died of serious injuries and acquired diseases

It is planned to purchase 10 buses for lyceums in ten communities of Zhytomyr oblast. The purchase is being financed as part of a public investment project to ensure unimpeded access to quality education.

Ksenia Pylypchuk, a 16-year-old artist from Zhytomyr, will receive a scholarship from the President of Ukraine for young writers and artists. Her projects ‘Children of War’ and ‘Faces of the Ukrainian Dream’ allowed the world to see the war through the eyes of Ukrainian children. She has presented her work in the US, the UK, Argentina, Montenegro, Albania, and other countries. Ksenia and her family survived the occupation in Makiivka, Donetsk region, due to the invasion of russian troops. Later, they managed to move to Zhytomyr, where she unleashed her creative potential.

Sumy oblast

Sumyoblenergo reported that enemy forces struck the energy infrastructure in Sumy oblast. As a result, some settlements in the oblast are without electricity and water. Energy workers are operating in an intensified mode to restore power distribution.

Mykola Torianyk, head of Khotin community, informed that as a result of russian strikes using multiple rocket launchers on Khotin, houses were destroyed and damaged. Due to the shelling, one household burned down, four houses were damaged, and windows were shattered in an apartment building. Fortunately, no one was injured, as most residents from these homes had already evacuated. The family from the house destroyed by the enemy was evacuated shortly before the attack.

Olena Sharkova, Head of Myropillia community, said that in Myropillia, as a result of russian shelling on 19 April, two houses burned down. Additionally, other houses were damaged. The enemy struck again at the building that once housed the village outpatient clinic, and a russian shell also hit near the church.

During the night of 19 April, russian forces attacked two communities by ‘Geran-2’ kamikaze drones. In Buryn community, a service station was damaged, and approximately 50 windows in private homes were shattered. In Putyvl community, a service station, a café-bar, an administrative building, and dozens of windows were damaged.

During the night, russian forces attacked Verkhnia Syrovatka community by five ‘Shahed’ drones. As a result of the enemy strikes, agricultural enterprise facilities were damaged.

According to the Regional Military Administration, overall, during the night and morning, russian forces carried out 56 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast. A total of 143 explosions were recorded. The following communities came under fire: Verkhnia Syrovatka, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Buryn, Putyvl, Svesa, and Seredyna-Buda.

The State Emergency Service reported that from night until morning, rescuers worked to extinguish fires caused by enemy strikes in Sumy oblast. Fires were eliminated in Putyvl, Buryn, and Sumy communities.

During the night of 19 April, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down six enemy ‘Shahed’ UAVs over the skies of Sumy oblast.

Throughout the past day, 18 April, russian forces carried out 124 shelling attacks on Sumy oblast, with a total of 220 strikes recorded. The enemy used mortars (56 explosions), multiple rocket launchers (18 explosions), artillery (42 explosions), a missile strike (1 explosion), UAV attack (1 explosion), FPV-drones (46 explosions), GABs (36 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (19 explosions). Twelve communities came under enemy fire: Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Popivka, Nova Slobidka, Hlukhiv, Shalyhyne, Esman, Svesa, and Seredyna-Buda.

 Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that on 18 April, as a result of russian shelling, a private residential house in Seredyna-Buda community was damaged, along with a store, an educational institution, non-residential premises, and a residential house in Krasnopillia community. Additionally, a private residential house in Hlukhiv community was damaged.

 According to Sumy Police, from the territory of Krasnopillia community, ‘White Angel’ crew, accompanied by a local council employee, evacuated two children aged 8 and 12. The children were in a settlement that is constantly under enemy shelling.

Yesterday, 28 people evacuated from two border communities in Sumy region. Twenty-five individuals left Krasnopillia community, and three evacuated from the Myropillia community.

Sumy City Council has amended the community budget to provide targeted financial support to people who have lost relatives or have damaged housing due to russian attacks. A total of UAH 9m. has already been allocated from the local budget for payments to families of the deceased.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 18 April, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (6 explosions), barrel artillery strikes (19 explosions), FPV-drone attacks (27 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (26 explosions). Fifteen settlements came under enemy fire.

According to the North Operational Command, in Novhorod-Siverskyi community, a private house was damaged due to an explosive device dropped from a UAV on 18 April.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that from evening until night, the enemy attacked Nikopol region with drones and fired from artillery. The region centre and Tomakivka community were targeted. The infrastructure was damaged. The occupiers also shelled Synelnykove region. Novopavlivka and Pokrovske communities were targeted with anti-aircraft guns. There was a fire. A private house was damaged. Mezhivka community was attacked by a drone. A car was damaged. 

Throughout the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region with kamikaze drones. They launched more than two dozen drones in the area. They targeted the regional centre, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities.

Vinnytsia oblast

​Among those released from russian captivity are five residents of Vinnytsia: Ivan, Serhii, Yurii, Ivan and Rostyslav, said the head of the regional council, Vyacheslav Sokolovy.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, mothers of fallen soldiers baked Easter cakes for soldiers currently at the front. The “Mum’s Easter cake” event was organised for the third year in a row on the eve of Easter.

Cherkasy oblast

The campaign “Don’t be silent – captivity kills!” was launched on Soborna Square in Cherkasy. Relatives of captured and missing defenders gathered with posters and flags.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that russian forces attacked the premises of a motor transport company in Zaporizhzhia by Shahed drones, resulting in a fire. Also, the enemy struck Mahdalynivka village in Zaporizhzhia oblast, damaging residential houses, a garage and a vehicle. There were no casualties or injuries reported.

On 19 April, 33 Ukrainian servicemen from Zaporizhzhia oblast were released from russian captivity.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Defence Forces repelled 3 russian assaults near Shcherbaky, Stepove and Mala Tokmachka in Orikhiv region. No combat clashes were reported in Huliaipole region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 April, russian forces carried out 328 attacks on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. A total of 204 drones targeted Zaporizhzhia, Chervonodniprovka, Lobkove, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Based on the information provided by Berdiansk City Military Administration, in temporarily occupied Berdiansk, the occupiers are imposing russian Easter traditions on children. A new exhibition titled “Attributes of Orthodox Easter” was opened in the memorial house-museum of Piotr Schmidt, where children are introduced to the so-called “cultural heritage of Orthodox Rus”, with no mention of traditional Ukrainian Easter symbols.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the RMA, on 19 April, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community at least 5 times by FPV drones. In Dmytrivka village, the roof of a private house caught fire. As of 6:41pm, 3 houses, a vehicle and agricultural machinery were reported damaged.

During the night of 19 April, Ukrainian air defence forces shot down 2 Shahed drones in Mykolaiv oblast. Other communities were attacked by missiles and FPV drones.

Referring to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, volunteers from Switzerland and Germany – Kevin and Chris – delivered humanitarian aid worth €200,000. The assistance included protective gear for the State Emergency Service units, medicines and food for hospitals in Mykolaiv and Kherson.

Odesa oblast

According to the State Emergency Service, as a result of an overnight missile strike, several farming enterprises in Odesa oblast sustained significant damage. Fires were promptly extinguished by emergency services. There were no fatalities or injuries reported.

Kherson oblast

Relying on the information provided by the RMA, around 4:50pm, russian forces attacked a high-rise building in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by an FPV drone, causing a fire in one of the apartments.

4 more FPV drones struck Vysoke village, damaging several private houses. There were no casualties reported.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Regional Military Administration, confirmed that on 19 April, 8 Ukrainian servicemen from Kherson oblast were released from russian captivity.

The RMA reported that a russian drone dropped explosives on a civilian vehicle in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, injuring a 40-year-old woman who was nearby. She suffered blast injuries and a concussion.

In the morning, russian forces shelled Zelenivka village near Kherson. A 74-year-old woman sustained a traumatic brain injury, shrapnel wounds and a concussion. She was hospitalised in moderate condition.

Due to the shelling, settlements in Naddniprianske starosta region of Kherson oblast were left without electricity. Critical infrastructure in the area suffered severe damage.

According to the CMA, a teenage boy who was severely wounded on 17 April – his 16th birthday – died in hospital today. That day, russian forces launched a combined strike on Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. Medical professionals fought to save his life, but his injuries were fatal.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, stated that on 18 April, russian troops shelled 36 settlements in Kherson oblast. 3 apartment buildings, 5 private houses, a hangar, farming equipment and vehicles were damaged. 9 civilians were injured.

Volyn oblast

The Military Unit A1556 received a Starlink Gen3, an EcoFlow Delta 2 charging station and 10 8-inch BEZPEKA PRO BPK-8 VERESEN-12 FPV drones were from Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Regional Council reported that Czech partners from the Vysochyna region have donated medical devices to the Svalyavska City Hospital.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 20 FPV drones to the 4th Battalion Force of Freedom of the 4th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Rubizh.

Lviv oblast

The 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrii Sheptytskyi received awards Knight’s Cross, Defender of Ukraine, Cross of the TRO Forces by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Golden Cross and Silver Cross breastplates by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The RMA reported that fifth-grader Roman Terlych from Lviv, who received UAH 50,000 for winning the Olympiad, purchased a Mavic for the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk.

A memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of Strii Lyceum Andrii Sheptytskyi Gymnasium to commemorate Roman Dyak, fallen soldier from Strii. The defender was killed on 30 July, 2024 near the settlement of Pobeda, Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast

Among the Ukrainian servicemen released from captivity are fighters from Rivne oblast: Vitalii Venislavskyi, soldier, 47 years old, Rivne region; Oleksandr Hulchuk, sailor, 23 years old, Rivne region; Serhii Matsiuk, soldier, 22 years old, Rivne region, and Kostiantyn Pohranychnyi, soldier, 23 years old, Dubno region. In total, 277 Ukrainian defenders returned.

Ternopil oblast

Fighters from the 44th Hetman Danylo Apostol Separate Artillery Brigade received 10 fiber-optic FPV drones, electronic warfare systems, and Easter treats from Ternopil thanks to the budget.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community sent 11 electronic warfare devices worth UAH 2.4m to one of the combat brigades.

Chernivtsi oblast

Military personnel undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Chernivtsi have joined the art of Easter egg making. Creative initiatives are extremely important for the mental recovery, psychological support, and internal strengthening of the Heroes.

Over 21,000 more Ukrainians received temporary protection in the EU in a month. Most Ukrainian refugees go to Germany, the Czech Republic and Spain. The number of people under temporary protection decreased only in Austria (-430; -0.5%) and France (-410; -0.7%).
