What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

russian invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

On 8 March, there were 101 combat clashes on the frontline.

Border settlements continue to suffer from cynical shelling from the territory of the russian federation, in particular: Novodmytrivka, Ulanove, Kucherivka, Sorokyne, Nova Sloboda, Studenok, Popivka, Khodyne, Bachivsk, Lisne in Sumy oblast; Tymonovichi, Khotivka, Huta-Studenetska, Yeline in Chernihiv oblast.

Towards Kharkiv, Ukrainian soldiers repelled three attacks in the vicinity of ​​Vovchansk and Petro-Ivanivka, two combat clashes are still ongoing. The enemy carried out airstrikes, in particular in the vicinity of ​​the settlement of Dovzhyk.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy carried out seven assault operations near Stepova Novoselivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove. Two clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked 14 times near Novomykhailivka, Nove, Myrne, and Zelena Dolyna. Eight clashes are ongoing to this day.

Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attempts by the occupiers to advance in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar and Bila Hora.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked 15 times near Druzhba and Toretsk.

Towards Pokrovsk,the occupiers  made 14 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Yelizavetivka, Promyn, Andriivka, Oleksandropil, Pokrovsk, Serhiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Bohdanivka, Zelenyi Kut and Ulakly. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and repelled 12 attacks, two clashes are still ongoing. The enemy launched an airstrike in the area of ​​the settlement of Leontovychi.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked five times near Konstantynopol and Burlatske. Two clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy carried out two attacksnear Storozheve and Charivne. In addition, the enemy launched airstrikes on Huliaipole, Voskresenka, Novopole and Zaliznychne.

Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy assaults near Pyatikhatky, Stepove and Shcherbakyi.

Towards Kherson, the enemy launched an airstrike on the settlement of Kozatske and two missile strikes, probably with Iskander-M missiles, in the vicinity of the settlements of Novoselivka and Bila Krynytsia.

Towards Siversk, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.

In Kursk oblast, Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 russian attacks, and 14 more clashes are still ongoing. The enemy launched 23 airstrikes, dropped a total of 33 guided aerial bombs on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements, and carried out 362 artillery attacks, including 30 from multiple launch rocket systems.

In other areas of the front, the situation has not changed significantly

According to Donetsk RMA, as a result of the russian attack on the center of Dobropillia in Donetsk oblast, the death toll has risen to 11 people. Another 47 people were injured to varying degrees.

The Ministry of Energy reports that in a day, power engineers managed to restore power to more than 46 thousand consumers.

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Situation towards Kharkiv and Kupiansk as of 16:00 from the General Staff

The General Staff reported that Ukrainian soldiers repelled three attacks near Vovchansk and Petro-Ivanivka towards Kharkiv, two clashes are ongoing as of 16:00. The occupier carried out airstrikes, in particular in the vicinity of ​​ Dovzhyk.

Towards Kupiansk, the russian federation carried out seven assault operations near Stepova Novoselivka, Nova Kruhliakivka and Zahryzove. Two clashes are currently ongoing

Towards Kharkiv, four enemy attacks were repelled near Vovchansk and towards Krasne Pershe.

Towards Kupiansk, four attacks by the occupiers took place. Defense forces repelled enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Zahryzove, and towards Kupiansk.

Shelling

The RMA reported that at 04:25, russian aviation launched airstrikes with three GABs on an open area near the village of Dovzhyk, Zolochiv community. There was no information about the destruction and casualties.

At 01:40, russians attacked Bohodukhiv. As a result of the hit of 4 UAVs (Shahed) on the territory of the meat processing plant, a fire broke out and production workshops and garages were damaged. Three civilian men were killed, 7 more people were injured.

The day before, at 23:50, russians attacked Chuhuiv region, Pechenihy village. As a result of the shelling, the outbuilding of the outpatient clinic was damaged.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that russian troops continue attacks in the direction of Pokrovsk. The invaders have stormed the positions of the Defense Forces 24 times near Yelizavetivka, Tarasivka, Nadiivka, Promyen, Lysivka, Oleksiivka, Andriivka, Ulaklivka and near Nova Poltavka.

The Ukrainian military stopped most of the attacks in Toretsk and on the outskirts of the city, where the russian army stormed 26 times near Diliivka, Druzhba, Dachny and in the city buildings.

Another 17 assaults by the Defense Forces were repelled towards Lyman near Hrekivka, Torske, Yampolivka and near Nove and Novomykhailivka. 

Shelling

7 people were injured due to russian shelling of Kostiantynivka. Previously, russian troops dropped five air bombs on the city as reported by the head of the RMA Vadym Filashkin. Sergey Gorbunov, Head of the RMA, reports that in the afternoon, russian troops hit the city with the Smerch multiple launch rocket system and the Molniya-1 drone.

Over the past day, russians killed 20 residents of Donetsk oblast, another 43 were injured, including 6 children.

The day before, police recorded 3,218 enemy shelling along the front line and residential sector. 14 settlements were hit. 183 civilian objects were damaged, including 123 residential buildings.

Dobropillia withstood 5 russian attacks – at least 11 people were killed, at least 47 people injured, including 7 children. 8 apartment buildings, a private residence, an administrative building, a shopping center, and over 30 cars were destroyed.

In Pokrovsk, russian troops killed three civilians and damaged 1 apartment building and 2 private houses.

 One person was killed in Myrnohrad, a private home was damaged.

russia hit Kostiantynivka with two FAB-250 bombs and a drone, a civilian was killed, 2 apartment buildings and 11 private houses, 5 garages were damaged, and communications were disrupted.

The enemy dropped 2 FAB-250 bombs on Ivanopillia, one person was killed, 18 private houses, a clinic, 2 administrative buildings, and 2 shops destroyed.

In Yablunivka, a bomb strike resulted in one dead and 4 wounded, 5 private houses and a gas pipeline were damaged.

russians covered Kostiantynivka with artillery, 2 people were killed and another person was wounded.

The invaders aimed two FAB-250 bombs at Kramatorsk, 5 residents were injured, including a girl born in 2018, 33 private houses, an office and 2 non-residential premises, and 2 civilian cars were damaged.

russian terrorists attacked Drobysheve with FABs, three people were injured, 9 private houses and 2 cars were damaged.

 Luhansk oblast

The RMA reported that the enemy was active both towards Lyman and Siversk. The russians tried to advance near Hrekivka and in Belohorivka. They had significant fire support, using cannon and rocket artillery 14 times. They tried to hit Ukrainian positions from aviation twice. russians sent 277 unmanned aerial vehicles towards the fortifications of the Ukrainian defenders.

In Siversko-Donetsk, russians have not paid utility bills for six months. In particular, since August, the local housing service has been delayed in paying salaries. The founder and owner of the enterprise is the city’s occupation administration. However, they found a way to avoid responsibility there, so as not to deal with the repayment of the corresponding debt from the city budget. They claim that the housing service does not have enough of its own funds to pay salaries due to the low level of utility payments by the population. Therefore, the enterprise is considered unprofitable.

For about 2.5 years, the occupiers have been promising to put in order the landfills, which have not been used in the so-called “lpr” for a decade, as well as to build new facilities. But so far, things have not moved. Therefore, in order not to invest in capital construction in the occupied territories, the occupiers decided to give a contract for the disposal of industrial waste to a well-known russian atomic energy corporation. rusatom will split the garbage of the “luhansk people’s republic”.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Minister of Environmental Protection of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk informed that the consequences of the russian strike on the power unit’s shelter have been eliminated at Chornobyl nuclear power plant. As reported earlier, after the fire caused by a drone strike on 14 February was extinguished, the arch filler continued to smolder. The radiation situation is stable.

The Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery treats patients with heart disease and shrapnel wounds. Since 2014, more than 2,300 servicemen have been operated on here. Up to thirty servicemen are treated daily at the consultative clinic. Since the beginning of the russian invasion, the number of shrapnel in the heart has increased. Neodymium magnets developed jointly with a hospital in the northern region of Kharkiv are used to detect these shards.

Obolon district remains one of the leaders in Kyiv in arranging and building shelters. Last year, 62 major repairs were carried out and 3 shelters were built there. This year, 37 facilities are being repaired and 4 more shelters are under construction. So far, the head of KCMA has inspected two civil protection facilities in Obolon district of Kyiv.

Zhytomyr oblast

Andrii Zabihailo, Head of the Veterans Affairs Department of Zhytomyr City Council announced that since the creation of the Zhytomyr Drone platform, project engineers have collected more than 2,500 unmanned aerial vehicles. More than 800 drones were assembled by residents of Zhytomyr community, while the rest were collected by representatives from the region’s districts and other regions of Ukraine. 

Semenivka Hromada in Zhytomyr oblast is working on the arrangement of a space for veterans. The project is being implemented with the support of the International Organisation for Migration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Sumy oblast

Andrii Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reported that in the border areas of Sumy oblast, intense battles continue as russian assault groups attempt to break through and move towards the road from Yunakivka to Sudzha in Kursk oblast.

The Regional Military Administration informed that on 8 March, around 12pm, two russian drones struck Sumy. The roof of a residential building was damaged, and a fire broke out in an open area. The State Emergency Service reported that they extinguished the fire and inspected the area affected by the strikes.

At night, the enemy attacked the city of Okhtyrka. As a result of three UAV strikes on one of the general education schools, the roof and premises of the educational institution, the pool building, the garage, and the school bus were damaged.

Throughout the night and morning, russian forces carried out 25 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast. A total of 29 explosions from various types of weapons were recorded. The affected communities were Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Okhtyrka, and Khutir-Mykhailivskyi.

In the skies over Sumy oblast, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 14 enemy Shahed drones.

russian forces carried out 77 shelling attacks on Sumy oblast, resulting in a total of 138 explosions. The enemy used mortars (19 explosions), artillery (43 explosions), tank shelling (11 explosions), GAB launches (8 explosions), UAV strike (1 explosion), FPV-drone strikes (41 explosions), and dropped VOG from UAVs (15 explosions). The affected communities were Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Hlukhiv, Khutir-Mykhailivskyi, and Seredyna-Buda.

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that as a result of russian shelling on 7 March, a car caught fire in Velyka Pysarivka community, four houses and two outbuildings were damaged in Esman community, and an agricultural building of an educational institution was destroyed in Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community. 

Olena Sima, Head of Yunakivka community, said that as of 7 March, there are still two people remaining in Basivka village, Yunakivka community. 

According to the Regional Military Administration, in 2024, Sumy oblast allocated UAH 797.8m. to support the security and defense sector. In the first two months of 2025, UAH 354.7m. have already been directed towards this purpose.

Volodymyr Artiukh, head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that enterprises in Sumy oblast are equipping military equipment with additional protection against enemy air attacks. According to him, the military equipment equipped with additional protection can withstand around 10 hits by FPV-drones during combat missions.

Chernihiv oblast

The North Operational Command reported that in Talalaivka, Pryluky region, a russian Shahed/Gerbera UAV exploded on 7 March. As a result of the attack, critical infrastructure objects were damaged. In Kostobobriv village, Semenivka community, an FPV-drone strike damaged a private house and a car. 

Chernihiv Border Detachment informed throughout the day on 7 March, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk, and Horodnia. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (6 explosions), FPV-drone strikes (8 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (10 explosions). Twelve villages were under enemy fire.

In Karpovychi village, Semenivka community, nine uninhabited private houses caught fire as a result of an explosive device dropped from a UAV.

According to Chernihiv Education Department, Educational institutions in Chernihiv will receive 290 laptops. They were provided through an initiative by the people of Taiwan and with the support of the Association of Ukrainian Cities. The laptops will be distributed among five vocational education institutions.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that at night, the enemy shelled Nikopol with artillery. In other communities of the region, the night passed without any attacks. In the morning, the occupiers attacked the Marhanets community with a drone. 

During the day, the enemy attacked Nikopol region about two dozen times. They shelled the region centre, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrov communities with artillery and drones. An enterprise, an administrative building, 3 private houses, an outbuilding, a shed, a greenhouse, infrastructure and a power line were damaged. Mezhivska community of Synelnykivka district was hit by a kamikaze drone. A fire broke out in a private house.

Vinnytsia oblast

​A peaceful rally in support of prisoners of war and missing defenders was held in Vinnytsia. It was organised by the families of soldiers who are in captivity or missing. The participants also reminded of the women who are still in captivity in russia.

Kirovohrad oblast

A travelling exhibition of portraits of missing persons, military and civilians who are in russian captivity or died as a result of torture opened in Kropyvnytskyi. There are 1700 photos in total.

Poltava oblast

Poltava Regional Military Administration, said that at night, the enemy attacked Poltava oblast with a UAV. The attack destroyed civilian infrastructure.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night, defenders destroyed 15 russian UAVs in Cherkasy oblast. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Forces repelled 6 russian attacks on Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions. Russian troops attacked twice near Storozhove and Charivne and 4 times toward the settlements of Piatykhatky, Stepove and Shcherbaky.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that overnight on 8 March, russian forces launched Shahed drones at Zaporizhzhia. The attack caused a fire at a private enterprise and the blast wave shattered windows in 4 high-rise buildings.

Based on the information provided by the General Staff, the Defence Forces on Orikhiv region repelled 4 russian attacks toward Stepove and Piatykhatky. No active russian operations were reported on Huliaipole region.

According to the RMA, on 7 March, russian forces launched 552 strikes on 12 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 324 drones targeted Zaporizhzhia, Kamianske, Piatykhatky, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka. There were no casualties reported.

Mykolaiv oblast

The RMA reported that on the night of 8 March, air defence forces in Mykolaiv oblast shot down 1 Shahed drone.

On 7 March, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by artillery and FPV drones, injuring a 48-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman. The woman was hospitalised in stable condition. 2 houses were damaged. Also, a building on the premises of an industrial enterprise in Dmytrivka was damaged. There were no injuries reported.

Odesa oblast

Referring to the RMA, on the evening of 7 March, russian forces struck a DTEK energy facility in Odesa oblast – the 7th attack on energy infrastructure in 3 weeks. The strike damaged a hangar with agricultural machinery, a business facility, a gas station, an auto parts store, a car service centre, a car dealership and at least 8 vehicles.

Kherson oblast

According to the RMA, a 64-year-old man was injured by a russian drone attack in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, and was hospitalised in critical condition.

The russian forces dropped an explosive device from a drone on a 50-year-old man in Kherson. He suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his shin and chest.

A 39-year-old man from Antonivka was hospitalised in critical condition after being attacked by a russian drone.

Around 1:30pm, russian forces shelled Bilozirka, injuring a 50-year-old man with a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to his thigh.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, informed that russian troops dropped an explosive device from a drone onto a civilian car in Naddniprianske, killing a 54-year-old man.

Roman Mrochko,  Head of the CMA, stated that early in the morning, russian forces shelled Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, injuring 2 elderly people – an 86-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man. Both suffered concussions, blast injuries, closed head trauma and shrapnel wounds. They were hospitalised.

Roman Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, said that on 7 March, 5 people were injured in russian attacks on Kherson oblast. 45 settlements were shelled, damaging a gas pipeline, an agricultural enterprise, a factory, 4 high-rise buildings, 17 private houses and several vehicles.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

One of the units of the Special Operations Forces received 2 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters, an EcoFlow Delta 2 charging station, and a portable radio-electronic means of countering unmanned aerial vehicles Shelter 6A from Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The oblast is working on setting up educational centers for teaching the Defense of Ukraine subject according to the updated curriculum. The oblast has received over UAH 72.6m in state subsidies to set up such centers and organize retraining of subject teachers.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that Junior Sergeant Mykhailo Koznyuk from the village of Bukovets, Verkhovyna community, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order.

Lviv oblast

In Lviv, during a charity evening within the framework of the Birds of Victory project, it was possible to raise UAH 2.3m, which will go towards the purchase of drones for the 427th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems Rarog, the 77th Separate Airmobile Naddnipriansk Brigade and the Strike UAV Company of the 68th Separate Oleksa Dovbush Chasseurs Brigade. In addition, 40 drones have already been sent to the 68th Separate Oleksa Dovbush Chasseurs Brigade.

Defenders from Zolochiv region were awarded high state awards (posthumously). Senior Soldier Volodymyr Dizhak was killed while performing a combat mission near Toretsk, Bakhmut region, as a result of mortar shelling of positions. The soldier was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order. Serhii Artyshuk was killed near the village of Pavlivka, Sumy oblast, while performing a combat mission. For his courage, the Defender was awarded with the For the Defense of Ukraine Order of the President of Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

A Center for Support for Veterans and Their Families has opened in Rivne oblast. It has an office for individual work with a psychologist, space for group meetings and individual classes. The Center will also continue to operate support groups for families of missing defenders.

Ternopil oblast

Representatives of the RMA held an online meeting with Carl Sheline, Mayor of Lewiston (the US). They discussed international cooperation.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Thermal imaging sighting systems worth UAH 1.7m sent to one of the combat units of the Defense Forces from Khmelnytskyi community.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA reported that in January-February 2025, almost UAH 13m has already been allocated from the regional budget for defense needs, and a total of UAH 41.7m from local budgets.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, announced that the Netherlands €700m are being allocated for drones for Ukraine.

Slovak citizens have raised over €5m for ammunition for Ukraine. The fundraising is being handled by the Ammunition for Ukraine Slovak public campaign.

From 28 February to 3 March, United24 raised $2,597,908 in support of the Ukrainian army. Donors from the United States contributed the most – $1,571,141, but residents of other countries around the world also helped.

The 1st women’s military uniform in Ukraine was presented in the Netherlands.

Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister, announced that the country will cooperate with Ukraine on drone production.
