On 1 September, the situation along the front line remained difficult. Ukrainian Defense Forces are focusing on disrupting russian offensive plans and destroying their personnel and equipment.
There were 91 combat engagements on the front line.
Border settlements in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts continue to suffer from artillery shelling from the russian territory. The vicinities of Porozok, Dmytrivka, and Vysoke were hit by artillery fire and MLRS. The enemy carried out airstrikes on Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Buniakine, and Obody, dropping a total of nine KABs. russia also bombed its own territory, launching four airstrikes in Kursk oblast, using four KABs.
Towards Kharkiv, russian forces attacked defensive lines near Vovchansk and Lypsti four times. Three combat engagements are ongoing, with the situation remaining under Ukrainian control.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy launched four assaults near Synkivka and Hlushkivka. Two battles are still ongoing, and Ukrainian forces continue to hold the line.
Towards Lyman, the enemy carried out ten attacks on Ukrainian positions near Makiivka, Hrekivka, Novosadove, Nevske, and Torske. Eight engagements ended, while two are still in progress.

Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled four attacks near Andriivka, Klishchiivka, and Maiske, with one battle still ongoing near Markove.

The largest number of engagements occurred towards Pokrovsk. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 27 attacks, with seven battles ongoing.
Fighting continued near Krasnohorivka towards Kurakhove. According to updated information, three enemy attacks are ongoing in this area. Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy assaults near Kostiantynivka and Heorhiivka.
Towards Vremivka, the enemy launched five attacks near Vodyane, Kostiantynivka, and Makarivka. Fighting is still ongoing.
Towards Orikhiv, russian forces did not carry out active offensive actions but continued shelling settlements with all available weapons. They also launched unguided rockets at Novoandriivka.
Towards Kherson, the enemy attempted one unsuccessful attack on Ukrainian positions.
Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that russian forces launched a massive strike on Kharkiv using Iskander-M and S-300/400 missiles on Sunday. As of 5:4011pm, on September 1, the number of injured has risen to 44, including seven children.
The Ministry of Energy reported that energy workers restored power to 5,694 consumers from August 31 to September 1. A total of 534 settlements remain without electricity.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
The General Staff said in a statement that towards Kramatorsk, the russian army conducted 20 attacks yesterday, more than half of them near Kalynivka, north of Chasovyi Yar.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers attacked Ukrainian positions 52 times. In particular, they stormed Hrodivka six times, Mykhailivka ten times, and conducted 12 more attacks in Novohrodivka.
Another 30 attacks were conducted by russian troops towards Kurakhove defence area. The occupiers put the most pressure near Heorhiivka, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 13 attacks in one day.
Out of 199 attacks along the entire frontline, Ukrainian troops repelled 154 attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Kharkiv oblast
Around 1pm, the occupiers struck Kharkiv about 10 times. Among the damaged infrastructure as a result of enemy air strikes were a shopping centre, a sports facility, residential buildings, a Nova Poshta office, shops, and cars. The enemy targeted civilian infrastructure exclusively. There are more than 44 wounded, including 6 children, including two three-month-old babies, two rescuers and two medics, and a doctor in serious condition.
The regional prosecutor’s office said that the strikes hit 3 locations: Kharkiv Palace of Sports, a shopping centre in Saltivka district, and near Hydropark inKyiv district. russia fired two Iskander-M ballistic missiles at a shopping centre in Saltivka district of Kharkiv. One of the hits in Nemyshliansky district of Kharkiv damaged a water supply system: a playground and the adjacent territory of a building were flooded. ‘In Saltivka district, there was a hit near the entrance to a supermarket,’ said Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of Kharkiv regional police. A gas pipe was damaged there. According to him, another missile hit opposite the place where the hypermarket was hit – in the private sector.
Viktor Zabashta, Head of the Emergency Medical Centre reports that emergency medics came under repeated strikes from the Russian Federation when they arrived at the scene. ‘The team immediately set off and stopped in front of the shopping centre. Kharkiv Regional Military Command says that the occupiers tried to break through to the aggregate plant in Vovchansk at night, where the russian military has been blocked for several months. A group of attackers was eliminated. In total, 38 occupiers were killed in the Kharkiv sector on 31 August, and 66 more were wounded.
Between 02:50 and 05:00am, russians attacked Slatynove village, Kharkiv region. At 1:15pm, russians attacked Tyshchenkivka village, Kupyansk region. As a result of the shelling, an outbuilding burned.
At 1:00pm, russians attacked Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region. A woman of 70 years old was injured as a result of the shelling.

Towards Kharkiv, two hostile attacks took place in the vicinity of Lypky and Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, according to updated information, the number of attacks by the occupants reached 24 over the last day. Ukrainian defence forces stopped all enemy assaults in the areas of Sinkivka, Kolisnykivka, Lozova, Novoosynove, Hlushkivka and Berestove.
Donetsk oblast
Ten years ago, Ukrainian soldiers left Luhansk airport. They held the defence for 146 days. The defence of the airport lasted from April to 1 September 2014. Twice Ukrainian forces were surrounded.
This afternoon, russian troops shelled the city with Uragan MLRSs with a high-explosive charge and cannon artillery. At least three people were killed and 11 wounded. The enemy opened fire on the city centre and the private sector. There were fires, damaged apartment buildings, private houses and civilian cars. Police paramedics, ‘White Angels’, investigative teams, rescuers and representatives of the Kurakhove CMA are working at the scene. Police officers are helping the wounded and taking them to hospital. Some people are in serious condition.
Roman Padun, Head of the RMA, says that on the morning of 1 September, russian troops fired at the cemetery in Kurakhove. The occupiers hit the cemetery with cannon artillery.
Another evacuation train arrived from Pokrovsk at night. 266 IDPs, including more than fifty children and 39 people with reduced mobility, were accommodated in six communities in Kirovohrad oblast.

Dobropillia withstood five attacks from S-300 systems – three civilians were wounded, 4 apartment buildings, 2 medical institutions, a school, a business, and vehicles were damaged
The occupiers dropped a FAB-500 with an UMPK module on Lyman, injuring two civilians, and damaging three apartment buildings, two administrative buildings, a cafe, and cars. Rescuers extinguished a fire on the roof and ceiling on the 3rd floor over an area of 70 square metres.
One person was injured in Zvanivka.
russia struck Myrnohrad with a KAB-500 bomb with an UMPK module, damaging 8 apartment buildings and three private houses, an administrative building, businesses, and a shopping centre.
The invaders shelled Pokrovsk with five missiles from the S-300 air defence system, damaging two apartment buildings, an administrative building, a hotel, businesses, a social facility and a car dealership.
In Bilytske, two S-300 missiles damaged two industrial facilities, and in Novovasylivka, an agricultural enterprise and crops were damaged.
There are still people in Chasiv Yar in Donetsk oblast. The town is under constant shelling, and every district of Chasovyi Yar and the community is in danger.

Luhansk oblast

Numerous complaints have been recorded in Lutuhyne and Antratsyt, the towns captured 10 years ago. When returning from the war, russia only promises social guarantees, but most Luhansk residents do not receive them.
Over the past two years, local collaborators in Sievierodonetsk have repeatedly misled people about the possible launch of the Azot chemical plant. They even promised an investor who never came from russia. Since then, the situation has not moved forward. They only want to restore the operation of the industrial wastewater neutralisation and treatment plant, which in peacetime served the city’s sewerage network. The production of chemical products is out of the question.

Kyiv oblast
Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the capital will send more than 1,300 MAVIC 3T drones purchased at the expense of the city to the frontline . Five vehicles that were on the balance sheet of the Municipal Guard will also be sent to the soldiers. In addition, the Kyiv City Council has increased funding for the Kyiv Defence and Security Forces by an additional UAH 1.1b.
The academic year in Kyiv’s educational institutions will start on 2 September and run until 30 June. During the war, the safety of every participant in the educational process remains a priority. For this purpose, the city is implementing a comprehensive programme ‘Creating a Safe Educational Environment’.
The Regional Military Administration informed that this year, Kyiv oblast purchased 41 school buses at the expense of a state subvention on the terms of co-financing with the local budget. In addition, oblast launched the Education Security Service project. 94 general secondary education institutions have been selected as participants.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard and the Charitable Foundation ‘Oberig Vidrodzhennia’ in cooperation with the NGO ‘VELES’ Society of Hunters and Fishermen’ supported the morale and gave unforgettable emotions to the children of Ukrainian defenders from Borodianka territorial community. Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn announced that a ‘social taxi’ service was launched in Irpin in a test mode, which will allow people with disabilities to get to a hospital, clinic or rehabilitation centre in Irpin, Bucha, Gostomel or Kyiv in a specially equipped car for free.
Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk noted that the Ukrainian Red Cross Society will help modernise the water supply network in Bucha community. This cooperation will help supply quality drinking water to the homes of 3,500 residents and two educational institutions.
On 31 August, the Warriors of Light exhibition dedicated to the memory of Ukraine’s defenders who died during the russian-Ukrainian war was opened on St Sophia Square in Kyiv. The exhibition features around 300 portraits of the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, fallen soldiers of the Azov National Guard Brigade, the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and volunteers who died in the Ilovaisk conflict.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr Oblast Police Department reported that 872 educational institutions out of 1287 in the oblast have been equipped with emergency buttons to call the police. By the end of the year, all educational institutions are expected to have this practice of communication with law enforcement. The need for such preventive measures has increased following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian troops.
Yevhen Korinets, a native of Zhytomyr, a professional volleyball player who went to defend Ukraine from the first days of the russian invasion, is competing in the Paralympic Games. As a result of the fighting in the Bakhmut sector, he was wounded in March 2023, and his leg was amputated. After undergoing rehabilitation, Yevhen returned to sports and joined the Ukrainian Paralympic team.

Sumy oblast
On 1 September at 3:27pm, several explosions were heard in Sumy. Regional Military Administration reported that the russian army carried out airstrikes on the infrastructure of Sumy community. According to the regional prosecutor’s office, a 42-year-old employee of a local enterprise was injured,. The attack damaged one of the city’s industrial facilities, destroying production and warehouse buildings, an administrative building, and three vehicles. Additionally, a workshop at a local factory was damaged.
In the early hours of 1 September, the russian army attacked a convoy of trucks with an Iskander-M ballistic missile in Sumy oblast. The trucks were set to transport grain. A 23-year-old driver was killed on the spot, and four others were injured. According to the North Operational Command, the attack occurred in Verkhnia Syrovatka, damaging more than 20 vehicles,
During night and morning, russians carried out 18 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 47 explosions. The attacks targeted Velyka Pysarivka, Billopillia, Verkhnia Syrovatka, Krasnopillia, Yunakivka, Esman, Serydyno-Buda, Hlukhiv and Nova Slobidka communities.
Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy launched an airstrike on the infrastructure of Sumy community, there were 3 explosions recorded, people were injured. The emergency services provide medical assistance and eliminate the consequences of the enemy attack.
Oleksii Drozdenko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration reported that in the evening russians attacked the premises of the educational institution, which contained a centre for social and psychological rehabilitation of children and an orphanage. The injured are being provided with medical aid.
Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, met with Matias Schmale, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine. During the meeting, they discussed the humanitarian needs of Sumy oblast and the potential involvement of international organizations in implementing projects in education, healthcare, veteran support, and assistance for internally displaced persons. The Sumy region is actively engaging with international organizations, and such cooperation is crucial for a border region that suffers daily from attacks by the neighbouring enemy.
Chernihiv oblast
Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of the Koriukivka Region Military Administration, reported that on 1 September, russian forces shelled Yeline in Snovsk community, located near the border in Chernihiv oblast. As a result, houses caught fire. He mentioned that shelling in the border areas of Snovsk community has intensified in recent days after a brief lull.
Throughout the day on 31 August, the russian army shelled eight villages in three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siversk, Semenivka, and Snovsk communities. The enemy used artillery and mortars, as well as FPV drones and explosive devices dropped from UAVs. Border guards recorded a total of 60 explosions.

Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, said that at night, the defenders of the skies shot down two enemy Shahids. The occupants shelled Nikopol region from evening until night. Two people were injured in the district centre — a 72-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. The man was hospitalised. In general, the russian army fired at Nikopol, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities with artillery, kamikaze drones and Grads. Four multi-storey buildings, a shop, an enterprise, a petrol station, 9 private houses, 6 outbuildings were damaged, and another building was destroyed, as well as an unused car, a greenhouse, infrastructure and a power line.
More than 3,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk oblast joined the all-Ukrainian charity race “I honour soldiers, I run for the Heroes of Ukraine”. The event is dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers. Zaporizhzhia oblast
On 31 August, the occupiers launched 164 attacks on 10 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces carried out an airstrike on Levadne. A total of 66 drones of various modifications attacked Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, and Malynivka. Eight MLRS strikes hit Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka, and Robotyne. There were 89 artillery shelling on the territories of Prymorske, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Levadne, Preobrazhenka, and Novodanylivka. Fourteen reports were received about the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure.
As reported by the General Staff, there were four combat engagements towards Orikhiv: two near Robotyne and two in the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka.
Mykolaiv oblast
On the night of 1 September, the enemy attacked Halytsynove community with Shahed 131/136 drones. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in a grain storage warehouse in the village of Lymany. It was quickly extinguished by firefighters. The russians also carried out artillery shelling on Kutsurub community. No casualties were reported.

Air raid alarms were sounded 328 times in Mykolaiv oblast during the summer of 2024. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, air raid alarms in the region have been sounded 2,643 times.
Odesa oblast
On the night of 1 September, border guards in Odesa oblast shot down one of the russian kamikaze drones that russia used to attack Ukraine. The Shahed-136/131 drone, which was approaching the region from the sea, exploded in the air.
As of 6:00 am, there were no enemy ships in the Azov and Black Seas. There were two enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, one of which is armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total volley capacity of up to eight missiles.
Two ships passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea, and three ships entered the Sea of Azov, in the interests of the russian federation.
Kherson oblast
A resident of Kherson was injured due to russian shelling. A 42-year-old woman who was on the street was hit by the attack, suffering explosive and cranial trauma, a concussion, and a shrapnel wound to her leg.
During a nighttime drone attack, air defence forces shot down one Shahed-131/136 over Kherson oblast.
One person was killed, and another was injured in Kherson oblast due to russian aggression. The enemy’s fire targeted Kherson, Sadove, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Poniativka, Veletenske, Kizomys, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Novoberyslav, Burhunka, Mykhailivka, Novokairy, and Shliakhove. The police documented damage to six objects: three private houses, two cars (one of which belonged to the police), and an outbuilding.
The confirmed enemy losses over the past day amounted to 59 enemy’s personnel. The enemy also lost 19 units of weapons and military equipment. One field supply point, three observation posts, six dugouts, one firing position, one transformer, and one enemy personnel shelter were hit.
Volunteers from the “Proliska” humanitarian centre made an emergency trip to Bilozerka. Emergency repair kits were provided to homeowners whose properties were damaged by russian shelling. Fifteen households, home to 34 people, received aid.

The RMA held a meeting with a delegation from the city of Bregenz, led by burgomaster Michael Rich. Within the framework of the visit, a Memorandum on cooperation between Yaremche community and the city of Bregenz has already been signed.
Prykarpattia, together with the whole of Ukraine, actively participated in the VII All-Ukrainian sports patriotic event I Honor Soldiers, I Run For Heroes of Ukraine, which is timed to the Memorial Day of the Defenders of Ukraine. The race brought together about a thousand caring people, including family members of the victims, their friends, military personnel, law enforcement officers, rescuers, doctors, volunteers, and employees of the structural units of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast.
Lviv oblast
Oleh Zabarylo, Director of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure of Lviv City Council, announced that Swiss Basel will send 23-25 used large tramways with a low-floor section to Lviv free of charge. And another 10 smaller wagons – as donors of spare parts.
A memorial plaque was installed in Zolochiv region in memory of Roman Hajkovo, fallen defender from the brigade Offensive Guard –Stormy. He was killed on 5 December 2023 as a result of an airstrike near the settlement of Stelmakhivka, Luhansk oblast.
2 servicemen from Sambir region were posthumously awarded with the III degree For Courage orders. Andrii Hryb was the Commander of the Fourth Air Mobile Division of the 77th Separate Airmobile Brigade. He was killed as a result of injuries received near the settlement of Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast. Oleksandr Boiko served in the 1st Platoon of the Military Unit 4357. The defender was killed on 13 January while performing a combat mission near the city of Soledar, Donetsk oblast.
A memorial mural was created in memory of Vladyslav Palenychka, lieutenant Commander of the Airmobile Company of the 46th Separate Airmobile brigade. The hero with the call sign WHISKEY from Tukhli Slavic community. On 23 August 2022, our Hero’s company successfully crossed Inhulets River, repelled the enemy’s 1st line of defence, which marked the beginning of the counteroffensive and the beginning of the liberation of Kherson oblast. The defender led out his comrades, but he could not save himself.
Rivne oblast
Rivne City Council reported that the community sent a car to the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade of the 60th Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Running for Heroes race gathered a record number of participants in Rivne oblast. There were over 500 residents of the oblast. People of absolutely different ages and professions registered to participate. These are the children, wives and mothers of the fallen Heroes, employees of the authorities, representatives of the police, the State Emergency Service, the National Guard, and sports organisations of the oblast. People with disabilities and children joined.
Ternopil oblast
In Ternopil, children of fallen defenders were given school backpacks with stationery. 146 school-age children of the fallen Heroes received gift cards for the purchase of stationery in the amount of UAH 1,200. 67 backpacks (for grades 1-4) were handed over to the children in partnership with the German-Ukrainian public organisation Blue-Yellow Cross through the CBJ Charity CF.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community sent 10 DJI Mavic 3E and 10 DJI Mavic 3T Thermal with a thermal imager worth UAH 2.6m to the military.
Chernivtsi oblast
Bukovyna joined the annual patriotic rally, the run I Honor Soldiers, I Run For Heroes of Ukraine. The tradition was started in 2018. Now, in addition to all of Ukraine, the race is supported by almost 40 countries around the world. The race lasted several hours in Chernivtsi, participants completed various distances and received awards.

Germany sent to Ukraine a new package of military aid, including 1 IRIS-T SLS; 26 reconnaissance drones Vektor; 1 Bergepanzer evacuation vehicle; 6 engineering excavators; 14,000 155 mm shells; 10 unmanned surface ships; 55,000 first-aid kits and rifles.
Yuliia Svyridenko, Minister of Economy, reported that the US allocated $800m for the restoration of the Ukrainian energy industry. American officials were also given a list of critical equipment in need of immediate repair, created by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Croatia sent a robotic demining system to Ukraine.
Ruben Brekelmans, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, announced that his country will send 28 Viking amphibious armoured personnel carriers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Board of Directors of the World Bank approved the launch of the Learn project, which is aimed at improving the conditions for teaching and learning and providing access to students, teachers and school staff to safe conditions for face-to-face teaching and learning. The corresponding agreement is planned to be signed in September, and by the end of the year Ukraine will be able to receive $200m to the general fund of the state budget.
Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, held a meeting with Philip Gordon,foreign policy adviser of the US Vice President. They discussed strengthening air defence, increasing the number of artillery and combat aircraft, forming new brigades and providing for their needs.
