It has been the 1539  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:

Since the beginning of the day, the number of enemy attacks has reached 57.

The aggressor continues shelling border areas. Today in the Sumy region, the areas of the settlements of Ryzhivka, Sopych, Ulanove, Neskuchne, Iskryskivshchyna, Bezsalivka, Korenok, Volfyne, Simeine, Malushyne, Kucherivka, and Shalyhyne came under attack. One enemy assault action was recorded.

In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy attempted four times to improve its positions near Starytsia, Kolodiazne, and Kruhloye. Two of these attempts are still ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy did not conduct assault operations.

Ukrainian forces continue exhausting the enemy along the entire line of contact and in the rear areas.

The delay in the “1000 for 1000” prisoner exchange is solely due to Russia’s position. Ukraine has fulfilled all of its obligations: the lists have been submitted, and the negotiation group has completed all commitments. The decision now lies with Russia. Instead, the Russian Federation is delaying the process and attempting to manipulate the situation. Ukraine’s priority is to bring everyone home — especially those who have been held captive the longest, including since 2014. This was stated by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.

The European Union plans to open all negotiation clusters with Ukraine by the summer. Ukraine is actively working to ensure that accession talks with the EU begin on May 26 with the opening of the first cluster. This was reported yesterday to European ministers by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

In the Pokrovsk direction, 32 assaults took place, while Russian troops carried out another 16 attacks in the Kostiantynivka direction.

Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces struck Russian radar stations, fuel and ammunition depots, as well as military deployment points. This weakened the capabilities of Russian air defense systems.

Drones operated by the Special Operations Forces also targeted Russian military rear infrastructure in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including depots, logistics hubs, command posts, and repair bases. In particular, strikes were recorded in Sartana, Boikivske, Mykolaivka, and Rovenky, according to the Special Operations Forces.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops continue daily pressure on Hryshyne, using infantry, motorcycles, and armored vehicles. Their objective is to capture the settlement and gain a tactical advantage, said Ihor Yaremenko, chief of staff of an artillery reconnaissance battalion of a separate National Guard artillery brigade. According to him, despite significant losses, the Russian army continues to accumulate forces and prepare for new attacks.

Russian troops are reportedly moving ammunition and FPV drone depots farther from the frontline due to the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian drones, according to the ATESH movement. One such facility was identified near Mariupol, and the information was passed to the Defense Forces.

On May 11, police recorded 1,033 Russian strikes on the frontline and residential areas of Donetsk region, according to Donetsk regional police. In December 2025, he was captured by Ukrainian forces. He is suspected of cruel treatment of civilians, according to the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office.

Luhansk oblast

In the Lyman sector of the frontline, Russian troops attempted to advance 17 times over the past day, while another nine attacks were recorded in the Sloviansk sector. Eight settlements came under fire. In the territory of Luhansk region, the occupiers used 10 drones, according to the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Kharchenko.

Luhansk border guards also destroyed or damaged three MLRS systems, five armored vehicles, one MT-LB armored transporter, 34 artillery systems, 152 vehicles, six ammunition depots, one fuel and lubricants warehouse, 25 UAV control points, and 265 drones.

In occupied Luhansk region, Russian authorities announced plans to manufacture construction materials from the remains of destroyed buildings. The occupation administration promises to launch a mobile construction waste recycling complex, although over the past four years it has not built a single apartment block in the cities it destroyed in 2022.

Educational institutions in the so-called “LNR” have received a concept of historical education developed by the Russian Ministry of Education. It is planned to be introduced in schools, kindergartens, colleges, and universities. Among the measures is the glorification of Russian military personnel who committed crimes on the territory of Ukraine. Propaganda influence is set to begin already in kindergarten.

The infrastructure and social crisis in occupied Luhansk region continues to deepen. In Sievierodonetsk, the occupiers continue dismantling damaged apartment buildings but are not constructing new housing. In several settlements near Holubivka, there is not even delivery of drinking water due to a shortage of drivers, while the occupation authorities have failed to resolve waste disposal problems for more than three years.

A staffing collapse persists in the medical and social sectors. Occupied Luhansk region is experiencing an insulin shortage, there is a lack of doctors in Starobilsk, and the кадровий голод has spread even to the cultural sphere: a theater club leader for Milove was reportedly sought from a location 4,000 kilometers away from Luhansk region.

The occupation administration is increasing control over the information space and youth. In Sievierodonetsk, there has been no full-fledged mobile communication or internet access for more than three years, while at the same time the occupiers organize online voting for urban improvement projects. Schools in the so-called “LNR” are introducing new propaganda courses, and students are expected to join “cyber squads” and “media patrols” to monitor schoolchildren on social media.

In Mariupol, Russian occupiers have included nearly 900 apartments on the list of housing they plan to redistribute as “compensation housing,” according to the city council. These apartments belong to Mariupol residents who left the city because of the blockade and occupation. Under Russian regulations, such property may be confiscated until 2030 and transferred to Russian citizens, including military personnel, security officers, and officials.
