It has been the 1388 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 12 December, there were 93 combat clashes on the frontline. russian artillery shelling has affected Volfyne, Rohizne, Kucherivka, Malushyne, Seredyna-Buda in Sumy oblast.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy carried out 112 attacks, including one from a multiple launch rocket system.

Towards Southern Sloboda, there was one enemy attack towards the settlement of Kolodiazne.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried four times to displace Ukrainian units from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Pishchane, Nova Kruhliakivka and towards Kurylivka, two combat clashes are currently still ongoing.

Towards  Lyman, there were nineteen combat clashes. The enemy attacked in the vicinity of the settlements of Seredne, Zarichne, Drobyshive and towards Druzheliubivka, Novoserhiivka, Novyi Myr, Stavky, Oleksandrivka, Novoselivka, Lyman, fighting is ongoing in ten locations.

Towards Slaviansk, the enemy carried out five attacks in the vicinity of Torske, Serebrianka, Pereizne.

Towards Kramatorsk, there were two attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Pryvillia, Minkivka, two more clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the defense forces stopped 12 enemy attacks. The invader tried to advance in the vicinity of the settlements of Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Yablunivka and towards Kostiantynivka, Stepanivka, Sofiivka. Another battle is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian troops tried to advance 22 times on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of the settlements of Nykanorivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novomykolaivka, Filiia and towards Dorozhne, Bilytske, Myrnohrad, Novopavlivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 attacks, and the fighting is ongoing.

Towards Oleksandrivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks near the settlements of Vorone, Pryvillia, Verbove, Oleksiivka, Pryvilne and in the vicinity of Oleksandrivka, Vyshneve, Rybne, Krasnohirske. Another battle is ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, Ukrainian soldiers repelled nine assault actions of enemy units in the vicinity of the settlements of Pryvillia, Solodke and towards Dobropillia, Huliaipole.

Towards Orikhiv, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near the settlement of Novoandreivka.

Towards Kherson, Ukrainian units repelled four enemy attacks.

In the remaining areas, there were no significant changes in the situation.

Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of combat contact and in the rear.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Over the past day, 174 combat engagements were recorded.

In the Southern Slobozhan direction, there were five clashes — the enemy attempted to advance near the settlement of Prylipka and toward Izbytske and Okhrimivka.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy assault near Stepova Novoselivka.

The enemy attacked the Novovodolazka community, reportedly using a Geran-2–type UAV.

Shelling

Over the past day, five settlements in Kharkiv region came under enemy fire.

Two people were injured as a result of the strikes.

A 73-year-old man was injured in Novoplatonivka, Boryvа community; a 67-year-old man was injured in the settlement of Vysokyi.

Medical assistance was also provided to a 59-year-old man who had been injured on December 10 during shelling in the settlement of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Kupiansk community.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons against Kharkiv region:

▪️ 5 glide bombs (KABs)
▪️ 7 Geran-2–type UAVs
▪️ 2 FPV drones

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:

▪️ In Kupiansk district — a workshop and a garage were damaged (Pidsereedne village)
▪️ In Izium district — a power tiller was damaged (Novoplatonivka)
▪️ In Kharkiv district — an apartment building, three private houses, and power lines were damaged (Vysokyi settlement)

Other

The transit evacuation center in Lozova received 96 people over the past day. 30 people remain.
Since the beginning of its operation, 14,650 people have been registered at the center.

Donetsk oblast

Shelling

On 11 December, Russia carried out 2,136 strikes on the frontline and residential areas.

A total of 11 settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk; the settlements of Bylbasivka, Oleksandrivka, Shevchenko; and the villages of Znamenivka, Illinivka, Novoiiverske, and Yatskivka.

24 civilian objects were damaged, including 11 residential houses.

Russia launched 11 drones at Druzhkivka — one civilian was killed, and two private houses and two outbuildings were damaged.

Illinivka was shelled with tube artillery — one person was killed, and a private house was damaged.

In Kostiantynivka, Russian forces hit with a KAB-250 bomb and tube artillery — one civilian was injured.

In Novoiiverske, enemy drones struck an enterprise — two civilians were wounded, and infrastructure on the premises was damaged.

Kramatorsk was attacked by two Molniya-2 UAVs — two apartment buildings and two civilian cars were damaged. In Sloviansk, Russia used Smerch MLRS, damaging at least four private homes.

In Oleksandrivka, a Geran-2 UAV strike damaged an infrastructure facility. In Znamenivka, two private houses and a civilian vehicle were damaged. In Yatskivka, an FPV drone on a fiber-optic line damaged a civilian car.

Additionally, authorities confirmed the death of a civilian in Pokrovsk, who was killed as a result of Russian shelling on 10 December.

Other

Forced evacuation of families with children continues from Druzhkivka and the surrounding agglomeration. Over 300 children remain in the Druzhkivka community.

To convince adults not to put their children’s lives at risk, the White Angel police unit is conducting awareness work among the population. Officers remind parents of their responsibility for the lives and safety of their children and explain the critical nature of the situation.

More than 22,000 people remain in the Druzhkivka community.

Luhansk oblast

Near nine settlements, the enemy attempted to identify weak points in the defense of Ukrainian forces in the Lyman and Sloviansk directions. They carried out 15 attacks in this area. The fighting covered Novoyehorivka and Hrekivka. The occupiers launched 12 artillery strikes and used FPV drones in 13 instances.

The Kremlin has allocated 653 million rubles to be paid to medical workers in the occupied territories in 2026. Of this amount, 551.4 million rubles are designated for doctors and mid-level medical personnel from the so-called “DPR.” The so-called “LPR” will receive only 72.9 million rubles for these purposes. Officials explain that the decision was made taking into account the increase in the number of medical workers—something that is apparently not expected in the occupied parts of Luhansk region.

In Lysychansk, power outages for residential consumers have become widespread. Electricity is being cut off for even the smallest debts. During the autumn–winter period, local residents are unable to pay large electricity bills that accumulate due to the lack of centralized heating and, consequently, the use of electric heaters. The occupation authorities show no concern for this issue.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that a new orthotics and prosthetics laboratory has begun operating at Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital. The project was implemented in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross. A team of specialists is already working on site, providing a full cycle of care — from therapy to the production of prostheses and orthoses within the hospital. The report noted that in the first nine months of 2025, medical facilities in Kyiv oblast conducted 413 limb-amputation surgeries for both servicemembers and civilians. The region is home to more than 84,000 veterans, including 13,000 persons with disabilities who require continuous and accessible support.

Mayor Vitalii Klychko announced that ten more veterans on Kyiv’s housing waiting list have received housing orders. The flats are located in newly built residential complexes in various districts of the city. The housing has been commissioned and is ready for occupancy. In total, the city has purchased 352 fully completed apartments for servicemembers this year.

Kyiv Municipal Military Administration has signed a memorandum of cooperation with French charitable foundation AEPU (Agir Ensemble Pour l’Ukraine) and “Kozak Mamai” charitable foundation. The aim of the partnership is to enhance the energy resilience of Kyiv’s critical infrastructure and to implement humanitarian initiatives. The first step in this cooperation was the transfer of a high-capacity mobile generator from JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, which will strengthen the energy resilience of critical infrastructure.

The Regional Military Administration informed that a delegation from Japan visited Kyiv oblast. Representatives of a Japanese company examined possibilities for contributing to the development of security infrastructure and expressed interest in implementing a pilot shelter project for 150 people.

Kyiv City State Administration reported that in Kyiv, the outdoor lighting system is operating in an energy-saving mode. The intensity of street lighting in certain areas has been reduced to 30%. It noted that street lighting remains essential for the safety of pedestrians and drivers, even during periods of increased pressure on the power system. Specialists are ensuring its operation in a regulated energy-saving mode.

Zhytomyr oblast

Rescuers in Zhytomyr oblast have received significant reinforcement from the Regional Military Administration — pneumatic frame tents. These tents can be rapidly deployed and will be used during responses to various emergencies. They provide comfortable temporary shelter or assistance for local residents in need.

From 11 December, street and park lighting in Zhytomyr community is being switched to an energy-saving mode due to enemy attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure. Until the situation improves, lighting structures will operate after 10pm in a reduced night-time mode.

The Regional Military Administration reported that representatives of the region’s Psychosocial Support Centres took part on 11 December in a workshop titled “PRO_MentalHealth in Zhytomyr oblast: implementing rehabilitation services for veterans and individuals affected by the war in Ukraine”. The Psychosocial Support Centres were established in 2025 in four communities of Zhytomyr oblast under the PRO_MH_Zhytomyr project: Berdychiv, Korostyshiv, Ovruch and Olevsk.

Sumy oblast

On the morning of 12 December the General Staff reported that towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, six combat engagements occurred over the past 24 hours. The russian army carried out 145 attacks, including nine using multiple-launch rocket systems. In an update issued at 4pm, the General Staff reported 112 attacks conducted by russia in these directions, including one strike by a multiple-launch rocket system.

On 12 December, the russian army attacked a residential building in Bilopillia by an FPV drone. No casualties were reported. According to Bilopillia Mayor Yurii Zarko, the FPV drone was operated via fibre-optic control. The strike occurred close to the site of the 10 December attack on a National Police security vehicle.

On 12 December, russian forces used two strike UAVs to attack civilian infrastructure in Shostka, hitting a sports school where children were training at the time. All children and coaches were promptly evacuated to safety. Initial reports indicated no injuries.

The Regional Military Administration informed that on 12 December, the enemy conducted a mortar strike on Seredyna-Budа community, wounding a 76-year-old woman. She was hospitalised, and medical staff are providing the necessary care.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, russian attacks on the oblast over the past 24 hours left two people dead and one wounded. In Velyka Pysarivka community, two women aged 40 and 63 were killed in a strike involving a guided aerial bomb, and a 50-year-old woman was injured.

Between the morning of 11 December and the morning of 12 December, russian forces carried out more than 20 attacks on 14 settlements across six territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Okhtyrka regions. The enemy employed artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Air-raid alerts in the oblast lasted a total of 8 hours and 24 minutes throughout the day.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed as follows:

  • in Richky community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged; 
  • in Velyka Pysarivka community, a shop building was destroyed; 
  • in Sumy community, a non-residential building and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged; 
  • in Shalyhyne community, a residential building was destroyed.

Over the past 24 hours, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and non-governmental organisations from border communities, evacuated 10 people.

In Sumy, a vocational education facility destroyed by a russian missile strike is being dismantled. The strike occurred more than two years ago, in July 2023. According to Vitalii Melnyk, UNDP engineer in Ukraine, the demolition is being carried out under the UN Development Programme’s debris management initiative, with financial support from the Government of Sweden.

Kyiv Municipal Military Administration reported that in Sumy, 30 residential buildings damaged as a result of russia’s full-scale aggression have already been restored. Another 13 are currently undergoing reconstruction. Construction work at 68A Heroiv Krut Street is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that in the first half of the day on 12 December, russian forces struck residential areas of Semenivka by a “Molniya” attack drone.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that during 11 December, russian troops attacked two villages of Novhorod-Siverskyi border community. The enemy carried out nine mortar strikes and one FPV drone strike.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that a major renovation has recently been completed at Novobykiv General Secondary Education Institution. The project was funded by the Government of Latvia and implemented by the charitable association “Tavi draugi.” Now, 200 children from nine settlements will be able to study in comfortable conditions. The facility was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine, Andris Pildegovics.

The humanitarian mission “Proliska” has become a 2025 Nansen Award laureate in the European region, as announced by UNHCR. “Proliska” specialists work, among other areas, in the border communities of Chernihiv oblast, assisting with evacuations from dangerous locations, providing social transportation, and delivering humanitarian aidViacheslav Chaus congratulated the mission on receiving the award.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Pavlohrad district:
The enemy carried out a massive UAV attack on the district center, as reported by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk. A 71-year-old man was killed. Four more people were injured — women aged 68, 69, and 54, as well as one man. Fires broke out; one house was destroyed and four more were damaged.
In the evening, the occupiers continued drone attacks on the Nikopol and Pokrovska communities. According to updated information, the evening strikes damaged two more private houses, a car, infrastructure facilities, and an enterprise.

Synelnykove district:
Occupiers struck the Vasylkivska community with a UAV. An extension to a garage caught fire.

Nikopol district:
The enemy attacked Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrivska, Pokrovska, and Chervonohryhorivska communities with drones and artillery. A fire broke out. An apartment building and two private homes, an enterprise, a car, and solar panels were damaged.

Kryvyi Rih district:
Occupiers struck the Zelenodolsk community with a drone. A gymnasium was damaged.

Synelnykove district:
As a result of a KAB air-dropped bomb strike on the Pokrovska community, private houses were damaged.

Poltava oblast

Ukrainian serviceman Yevhenii Kochubei from Kremenchuk was killed defending Ukraine in the Russian–Ukrainian war. This happened on 29 November of this year in Donetsk region. The soldier held the rank of senior private.

Cherkasy oblast

A farewell ceremony was held in Cherkasy for defenders Viacheslav Samokhin and Hennadii Kadochnikov. They passed away due to illnesses caused by the consequences of their service and the injuries they had sustained.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

As Zaporizhzhia RMA reported, on 11 December, the occupiers launched 590 strikes on 15 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 9 airstrikes on Prydorozhne and Huliaipole. 332 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV) attacked Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandrivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Varvarivka, Pryluky, Solodke, and Staroukrainka. Six MLRS strikes were carried out on Stepove, Huliaipole, and Solodke. 243 artillery strikes were launched on Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandrivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Varvarivka, Pryluky, and Solodke. Nineteen reports were received about damaged homes and vehicles.

The General Staff reported that as of 16:00 on 12 December, Ukrainian soldiers repelled nine assault actions by enemy units in the areas of the settlements of Pryvillia, Solodke, Dobropillia and Huliaipole. The Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Novoandrivka towards Orikhiv. Over the past day, 11 December, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 20 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and two towards Orikhiv.

Today, 12 December, on the Day of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, four new stands with photos of fallen soldiers were installed in Zaporizhzhia on the Alley of Remembrance for Fallen Warriors, located in the Park of Military Glory. The four new stands contain photographs of 336 fallen defenders, 135 of whom were residents of Zaporizhzhia.

Activists of the “Yellow Ribbon” resistance movement are burning occupation propaganda in the temporarily occupied Melitopol — in particular, russian newspapers, campaign leaflets, and brochures. According to the Yellow Ribbon resistance movement’s Telegram channel, this is how they express their attitude toward the occupiers’ cynical statement about lowering the age for taking the military oath to 14 years — yet another attempt to drag children into the war.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Mykolaiv RMA, tonight, two Shahed 131/136 attack drones or various types of decoy drones were shot down or suppressed ovr Mykolaiv oblast.

Yesterday, the enemy carried out eight FPV-drone attacks on Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities and also struck Kutsurub community with artillery. As a result of one of the shellings, a car was damaged in the village of Parutyne. There were no casualties.

Odesa oblast

On 12 December, russia carried out a missile strike on the civilian port infrastructure of Odesa oblast, using attack drones and ballistic missiles on the territory of two ports — Odesa and Chornomorsk. As a result of the attack at the Odesa port, an employee of a private company was injured and a container loader was damaged. In the Chornomorsk port, a ferry flying the Turkish flag was damaged. A fire broke out on board one of the vessels. Damage assessment of the facilities and vessels is currently underway. Necessary restoration work has already begun in cooperation with port administrations and emergency services.

At night on 12 December, russia attacked two energy facilities in Odesa oblast. One of them belongs to DTEK “Odesa Electric Networks”. This year, 20 substations suffered significant damage due to shelling. As of the morning, electricity was restored to 40,000 customers. Another 91.9 thousand households remain without power.

As a result of the night attack on Odesa on 12 December, a residential building and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged. An operational headquarters is working at the site. The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported that during the night attack on Odesa region, warehouse premises, an administrative building, and a garage were damaged.

Kherson oblast

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that on 12 December, at approximately 08:50, russian occupiers shelled Zelenivka. Two people who were in a car were injured.

At approximately 08:20, the russians attacked a woman with a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. Preliminary reports say a 66-year-old woman from Kherson sustained a blast injury.

A resident of Kherson who was injured in a russian strike around 02:30 went to the hospital. The 53-year-old woman was diagnosed with a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to the leg.

Two elderly women from Beryslav who were attacked by russian drones were taken to the hospital. On 28 November, the enemy dropped an explosive on a 77-year-old woman, who sustained a blast injury, facial burns, and wounds to her arms and legs. On 5 December, a 73-year-old woman was hit by an enemy UAV strike. She has a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her arm.

According to Police of Kherson oblast, yesterday, 11 December, russian forces once again shelled the de-occupied settlements of the Kherson and Beryslav regions using artillery, MLRS, mortars, and various types of UAVs. Kherson, Antonivka, Kizomys, Stanislav, Bilozerka, Sofiivka, Molodizhne, Novodmytrivka, Rozlyv, Zelenivka, Sadove, Tomyna Balka, Shyroka Balka, Dniprovske, Prydniprovske, Inhulets, Beryslav, Shevchenkivka, Velyka Oleksandrivka, Stepne, Novovorontsovka, Sukhanove, Mylove, Novoraisk, Urozhaine, Odradokamianka, Lvove, Olhivka, Tiahynka, Burhunka, Kozatske, Vesele were affected by enemy attacks. Twenty-six objects were damaged: an apartment building and 11 private houses, a medical facility, a school, a kindergarten, a hangar, three tractors, a combine harvester, two cars, a warehouse, and a gas pipeline.

The General Staff reported that as of 16:00 on 12 December, Ukrainian units repelled four enemy attacks towards Kherson.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A charity screening of a Christmas film for military personnel, veterans and their families took place in Lutsk. The film screening was organized by the SVIDOMI CF for supporting veterans.

Zakarpattia oblast

Another UAH 5m was allocated for the needs of the military during the 1st plenary session of Uzhhorod City Council. The remaining budget funds that were not used in 2025 will also be directed to support the defense forces

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, since the beginning of the year, 127 combatants and their family members have received grants to start or develop their own business. Among them are 69 veterans and 58 wives of military personnel.

Lviv oblast

Another 268 ten-inch FPV drones are being sent to the front lines from Lviv oblast. The funds for the purchase of drones were raised during charity auctions by the Birds of Victory charity project. In total, over UAH 6m were raised, 20% of which was directed towards prosthetics for defenders at the Superhumans Center.

The RMA reported that over 100 cadets and servicemen took part in the 1st open Lviv Garrison Cup in target shooting.

Rivne oblast

A Memorial to Fallen Soldiers has been opened in Rivne oblast. It is dedicated to the memory of the fallen servicemen of the West operational command.

Ternopil oblast

The restoration of damaged houses after the rocket strike in Ternopil on 19 November continues. As of 12 December, 857 windows have been replaced. The house on Vasyl Stus Street has been dismantled, and the removal of building structures is currently underway. As a result of the dismantling of the structures, the surrounding area was damaged, so work has begun on replacing the paving stones in this area.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the current Defense Forces Support Program has been adjusted, a new one has been adopted for 2026, the preliminary amount of direct funding is UAH 450m, and more are planned.

Chernivtsi oblast

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, has honored with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

By the end of the year, Ukraine will receive military equipment worth about $5bn through the PURL program. This includes air defense systems, ammunition and critical spare parts.

Marie Bjer, Danish Minister for EU Affairs, and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, reported that the EU will launch technical negotiations with Ukraine despite the Hungarian veto.
