Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:
On October 28, there were 76 combat engagements.
The enemy shelled the settlements of Bila Bereza, Yastrubshchyna and Kucherivka in the Sumy region with artillery from russian territory.
In the Northern Sloboda and Kursk directions, the enemy launched 8 airstrikes, dropping 21 guided bombs, and carried out 79 shelling attacks, including three from multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Sloboda direction, Ukrainian troops repelled one enemy assault near Kamianka.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy made four attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions near Pishchane and Shyivka. One more battle is still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out seven attacks near Zelenyi Hai, Derylove and Novoselivka as well as in the direction of Korovii Yar and Drobysheve. Five more battles are still ongoing.
No offensive actions by the enemy were recorded in the Sloviansk and Kramatorsk directions.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy made 10 attempts to advance near Shcherbynivka, Rusynyi Yar, Stepanivka and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, The enemy carried out 23 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Novoekonomichne, Lysivka, Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne and Filiia. Two more battles are still ongoing.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled enemy attacks near Zelenyi Hai, Sosnivka, Verbove, Uspenivka, Novohryhorivka, Rybne, Pavlivka and Vyshneve. Thirteen out of sixteen enemy offensive actions were repelled, and three more battles are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian troops repelled six attempts by enemy units to advance near Novomykolaivka and Luhivske. The enemy launched airstrikes on Rivnopillia and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, russian troops made seven attempts to advance near Shcherbaky, Stepove, Novoandriivka and Novodanylivka. Two more battles are still ongoing. Orikhiv came under an enemy airstrike.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy launched two unsuccessful assaults and sustained losses.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
At 4pm, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled one attack in Kamianky towards Southern Slobozhanske.
Towards Kupiansk, the occupier attempted four times to advance on the positions of Ukrainian units in the area of the village of Pishchane and towards Shyikivka. One battle is still ongoing.
Over the past day, 218 combat clashes were recorded.
Towards Southern Slobozhanske, the enemy stormed the positions of our units 11 times in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk, Bolohivka, Odradne, and towards Bochkove.
Yesterday, there were 9 attacks by the invaders towards Kupiansk. Our defenders repelled the enemy’s assault in the areas of the settlements of Stepova Novoselivka, Zelenyi Hai and towards Pishchane.
Attacks
Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that a woman may have died in Kupiansk as a result of russian strikes, and law enforcement agencies are verifying information about her death. According to him, more than 560 people remain in the city.
During a national TV marathon Head Oleh Syniehuov informed that up to 4,000 subscribers in Lozova and the surrounding area are without power after russian strikes on infrastructure. According to him, it may take up to three days for energy companies to restore power, provided there are no new strikes.
Over the past day, three settlements in Kharkiv oblast have been hit by enemy strikes.
Medics provided assistance to a 41-year-old man who was injured as a result of shelling in Kupiansk on 26 October.
The enemy actively used one Geran-2 UAV and one FPV drone in Kharkiv oblast.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️a private house was damaged in Izium region (Borova village);
▪️an apartment building was damaged in Kharkiv region (Kozacha Lopan village).
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 65 people during the day. 36 people remained. A total of 9,555 people have been registered at the point since it began operating.
Other
The humanitarian situation in Kupiansk remains difficult as there is no electricity, centralised water or gas supply. The enemy is constantly shelling repair crews, preventing them from carrying out restoration work. There are currently about 650 people in the city. We are trying to fulfil every request for evacuation within 24 hours with the help of the National Police and our military. In total, more than 3,800 people remain in Kupiansk axis and 947 residents in Borova axis.
Evacuation measures are ongoing. Over the past day, 46 people were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova. About 30 people were taken out of Kupiansk itself, and 561 residents remain there at present. Each evacuation from Kupiansk is carefully planned and carried out exclusively by the military or police, as other units are no longer able to enter the settlement.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that russian occupiers have more than doubled the number of attacks towards Pokrovsk compared to the previous day. The russian army attacked 79 times here.
Serhii Okishev, an officer of the communications department of the 7th Corps of the Airborne Forces, informed that russian troops continue to infiltrate Pokrovsk, trying to reach logistics routes from the north of the Pokrovsk agglomeration. They are not consolidating their positions in the city, but are infiltrating deeper to cut off supplies.
Russian troops are continuing their attempts to capture Pokrovsk. They are currently on the outskirts of the city, and urban fighting is ongoing. Despite their losses, the russian occupiers are trying to advance towards the railway station. The Ukrainian military has brought in new units, artillery, UAV crews and is remotely mining roads to repel russian attacks. More than 1,200 residents remain in the city. It is impossible to evacuate them because russian occupiers control all exits from the city.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence’s Main Intelligence Directorate said that over the past two weeks, their special forces from the unit “Prymary” have destroyed two 48Ya6-K1 “Podlot” radar stations and a 9A82 launcher for the S-300V anti-aircraft missile system in Donbas. During the operation, a group of occupiers was eliminated along with the KamAZ truck they were travelling in.
President Zelenskyy stated that the number of russian occupiers towards Pokrovsk is eight times greater than the Defence Forces. Despite this, they are suffering heavy losses and have been unable to achieve their goal of occupying Pokrovsk for a year. In six months, the Ukrainian military in the east has captured 2,200 russian soldiers.
Nazar Voitenko, press officer of the 33rd Separate Mechanised Brigade, reported that the Defence Forces repelled another mechanised assault by the occupiers on Volodymyrivka in the direction of Dobropillia. Russian troops used tanks with mine ploughs and armoured vehicles with troops. This was the fourth mechanised assault in the direction of this village since the beginning of October, with the occupiers increasing their use of heavy equipment.
Attacks
The City Military Adminsitraion stated taht on 28 October at 2:20pm, russian troops shelled the private sector of Kramatorsk using UAVs.

On 27 October, the police recorded 2,054 enemy strikes on the front line and residential areas.
Four settlements were under attack: Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Mykolaivka, and Hryshyne.
8 civilian objects were destroyed, including seven residential buildings.
The russians struck Kostiantynivka with two aerial bombs, drones, and artillery, killing one man and injuring another civilian. Three apartment buildings and critical infrastructure were damaged.
Three private houses were damaged in Druzhkivka and one house in Hryshyne.
In addition, information has been confirmed about a civilian killed in Siversk as a result of artillery shelling on 26 October.
Other
The RMA reported that 39 families with children left Druzhkivka community on 28 and 27 October. Over the past week, 127 children from 97 families were evacuated from the community.
Ibrahim Naaber, a journalist for the German newspaper Die Welt, was wounded in eastern Ukraine. According to him, this happened 25-30km from the front line while filming the work of an air defence unit. The team came under attack from a russian Lancet drone and as a result, the cameraman and producer were also injured.
One Ukrainian soldier was killed in the strike, another seriously wounded.
The press service of Pokrovsk City Military Administration stated that about 1,200 civilians remain in Pokrovsk. They do not dare to leave their shelters because of russian FPV drones, and it is “almost impossible” to leave the city even on foot, according to the .
In Dobropillia, there is no electricity, gas or water supply due to shelling by the russian army. The front line is about 15km from the city. According to the military administration, more than a thousand people remain here.
Luhansk oblast
Ukrainian units repelled enemy attacks in the area of the village of Nadiia. Over the past day, russian troops made 21 attempts to advance towards Lyman and Sloviansk, putting pressure on ten settlements. The occupiers used artillery, unmanned aerial vehicles, and FPV drones.
On 1 January, driving vehicles without russian number plates in the so-called “lpr” will be considered an administrative offence. Ukrainian number plates, as well as those issued by the occupation administrations before 2022, will not be recognised. Vehicles that have not been re-registered will be sent for customs clearance.
From 1 November, the occupation administration will begin the forced dismantling of satellite complexes that provide access to unregulated television channels. The new equipment will broadcast a limited list of permitted television channels via russian satellite signal.
According to the Yellow Ribbon movement, Suspilne Donbas, in Luhansk, the military commandant’s office, together with the occupation authorities, is conducting raids on commercial establishments, checking employees’ mobile phones for VPN services.
Luhansk Regional State Administration reported that from 1 January 2026, car owners, who have not obtained russian number plates, will be fined in the occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast. Such vehicles will be sent for customs clearance.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The mayor of Kyiv reported that the death toll from the October 22 shelling of Kyiv has risen to three. A woman who had been critically injured in the russian attack died in the hospital.
Kyiv Regional Center for Civil Resistance Training announced the completion of its 9th basic course. The seven-week program provided civilian participants with essential skills in first aid, tactical and firearms training, engineering, stress management, information security, and other crucial fields.
Since the beginning of 2022, Kyiv City Administration has provided financial assistance to more than 22,000 residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed as a result of russian aggression. Under the city program “Care. Toward Kyivans”, more than UAH 260m have been allocated.
On 28 October, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel arrived in Kyiv, reaffirming that the Netherlands will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression.
On 27 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kyiv with Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić. They discussed the importance of implementing projects under the PURL initiative, particularly regarding air defense systems, and utilizing opportunities within the SAFE mechanism.
In Kyiv, relatives of Ukrainian service members illegally sentenced by russia in captivity gathered outside the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The participants demanded stronger action from Ukrainian authorities to locate and free the convicted captives.
The regional branch of the State Emergency Service (SES) reported that in Kyiv oblast, the “Community Rescue Officer” project has been fully implemented within four months. Currently, over 1,900 specialists are working across local communities. During this period, community rescuers have helped extinguish over 25,000 fires, identified more than 2,600 explosive objects, responded to over 1,900 emergencies, and provided over 9,000 consultations to local government representatives.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr City Council reported that the families of six fallen servicemen were posthumously awarded state honors — the Orders “For Courage” of the 2nd and 3rd degrees.
In the village of Potiivka, a street formerly named Chervona Hirka (Red Hill) was renamed in honor of local hero Bohdan Petrakivskyi, a 28-year-old reconnaissance sapper who was killed in action.
In Malyn community, students of Pyriizhky Gymnasium and members of Malyn City Center for Children’s and Youth Creativity collected 382kg of chestnuts to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The funds raised from processing the chestnuts will be used to purchase early drone warning detectors.
Sumy oblast
On the evening of 27 October the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian forces repelled seven assault attempts by the occupiers since the beginning of the day, while two clashes were ongoing. The enemy also launched ten airstrikes, dropping 24 guided bombs, and carried out 149 attacks, including three using multiple rocket launch systems.
Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office informed that at 10:20am on 28 October, a russian drone struck a civilian vehicle in Esman community of Shostka region. A 54-year-old driver was injured, and the vehicle was completely burned.
According to the Regional Military Administration, in Konotop community, during the night of 27 October, one multi-storey and one private house were damaged. Non-residential premises and civil infrastructure facilities were also destroyed.
From the morning of 27 October to the morning of 28 October 2025, russian forces carried out 23 attacks on 12 settlements across six territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over ten strikes) and conducted attacks by FPV drones. The air raid alert in the oblast lasted a total of 21 hours and 27 minutes during the day.
Nine people injured in the russian drone strike on a minibus in Sumy region remain in hospital. Among them is a 15-year-old girl in a stable but serious condition. In total, 15 people were injured in the attack, and one man was killed.
The National Police reported that in Okhtyrka region of Sumy oblast, the combat section of a russian UAV that fell in a forested area without detonation during Air Defence operations was neutralised.
During the day, five people were evacuated from border communities through joint efforts of local authorities, the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations. According to the Regional Military Administration, a total of 233 people, including 19 children, have been evacuated since the beginning of October.
A White Angel police crew evacuated a man and his 11 goats from under shelling in Sumy oblast. The 63-year-old resident of Yunakivka community had refused to leave without his animals.
As part of the Shoulder to Shoulder project, Pryiutivka community from Kirovohrad oblast decided to allocate a subvention of UAH 200,000 to Velyka Pysarivka community. The funds will be used to establish a humanitarian hub for the frontline community.
Chernihiv oblast
Chernihiv City Council reported that during the night of 28 October, the russian army attacked a critical infrastructure facility. A fire broke out at the site of the strike.
At 3:30pm on 27 October, the enemy launched another attack on Chernihiv oblast’s energy system, damaging a key power supply facility in Koriukivka region. Tens of thousands of consumers were left without electricity.
Chernihivoblenergo informed that on 27 October, russian forces targeted company workers by drones while they were attempting to restore power in Koriukivka region following shelling. A service vehicle was damaged in the attack.
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of the Novhorod-Siverskyi District Military Administration, said that at same night, russian forces struck a recreation base in Novhorod-Siverskyi, causing a fire. An elderly woman was injured in the attack.
At around 10:30pm on 27 October, russian troops hit civilian infrastructure in Novhorod-Siverskyi by three attack drones.
According to Ratan Akhmedov, Mayor of Koriukivka, in the evening of 27 October, russian forces attacked a milk truck in Koriukivka community. Residential buildings were also damaged.
Chernihiv Regional Police reported that several unexploded warheads from russian attack drones shot down by Ukrainian Defence Forces were discovered in Koriukivka region. One UAV was found in the yard of a private household, while others were located in open areas and near settlements. The warheads did not detonate.
Chernihiv Border Detachment informed that throughout 28 October, russian troops attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. A total of 68 strikes were recorded. The enemy used automatic grenade launchers, mortars, and artillery, and carried out attacks with Shahed-type UAVs, FPV drones, and explosive devices dropped from UAVs.
On 28 October, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded state honours to seven energy workers from Chernihiv oblast, two of them — Anatolii Savchenko and Ruslan Deineha — posthumously.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Synelnykove region. The enemy struck Shakhtar community with UAVs. Infrastructure was damaged.
Nikopol region. From evening until morning, the occupiers continued to strike the district with drones and artillery. They targeted the district centre and Pokrovske community. A fire broke out, damaging a private house, a farm building, an agricultural enterprise, and a gas pipeline.
Nikopol region. The occupiers launched about two and a half dozen attacks on the district centre and the communities of Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske. They used drones and artillery. A 32-year-old man was injured and hospitalised in a moderate condition. A fire broke out. Two apartment buildings, a private house, a lyceum, two shops and three cars were damaged. According to updated information, eight private homes, two farm buildings, a car, and a gas pipeline were damaged in the morning attacks in Nikopol.
Synelnykove region. The occupiers struck the Vasylkivka community with UAVs. Infrastructure was damaged.
Pavlohrad region. The enemy struck with UAVs. Infrastructure was damaged.
Kirovohrad oblast
Kropyvnytskyi bid farewell to Ivan Zhyhun, a scout who was killed in December 2024 in Donetsk oblast. The soldier was considered missing in action.
Kirovohrad oblast lost two soldiers, Viktor Potrebenko and Vitalii Pidvysotskyi.
Viktor Potrebenko was killed on 23 October near Novooleksandrivka in Synelnykove region of Dnipropetrovsk oblast.
Vitalii Pidvysotskyi joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the 121st Brigade as a combat medic. The soldier’s heart stopped on 26 October.
Vinnytsia oblast
On 26 October, while serving in the military in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, Ihor Shytov, a native of the village of Samhorodok, was killed.
Poltava oblast
On the night of 28 October, the russian army once again attacked civilian gas infrastructure. These are facilities belonging to the Naftohaz Group. No one was injured.
Poltava bid farewell to fallen soldier Anatolii Kapunov. He was killed while performing combat duties near Staryi Terniv in Donetsk oblast in December 2024. He was considered missing in action for a long time.
Yurii Dudnyk, a 44-year-old soldier from Verkholy, was killed in the war with russia in Donetsk oblast on 21 October.
Defender of Ukraine Volodymyr Shevchenko was killed by a russian drone strike. The 37-year-old man was froь Yabluneve in Orzhytsia community. Since 1 September 2025, the soldier had been considered missing in action while performing combat duties in Sumy oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
Cherkasy bid farewell to the fallen Oleksandr Kramarenko, who was killed on 30 April 2025 in Luhansk oblast while performing his military duties.
In Smila, they bid farewell to 37-year-old soldier Vadym Ihnatiev, who was killed in the war. On 18 October 2025, in Polohy region of Zaporizhzhia oblast, his life was cut short by an FPV drone strike.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that 2 people were injured as a result of a russian air strike on Zaporizhzhia oblast. An aerial bomb hit near a residential building, destroying it and damaging outbuildings. A fire broke out at the site, which rescuers promptly extinguished. The injured are men aged 44 and 62, who are currently receiving all necessary medical assistance.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Forces repelled 5 russian attacks near Stepove, Kamianske, Novodanylivka and Novoandriivka in Orikhiv region. In Huliaipole region, russian troops unsuccessfully attacked near Malynivka and Novomykolaivka.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 27 October, russian forces launched 396 strikes on 15 towns and villages across Zaporizhzhia oblast. In particular, 233 drones (mostly FPV types) attacked Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Preobrazhenka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Verkhnia Tersa.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that the russian military conducted 8 FPV drone attacks targeting Ochakiv and Halytsynivka communities. Also, artillery strikes were launched on Kutsurub community. In Dmytrivka village, a kindergarten, a school, a private house and a power line were damaged. As of this morning, all electricity supplies have been restored.
Kherson oblast
According to Kherson RMA, At around 5:30pm, russian forces attacked Kherson by a drone, wounding a 55-year-old man who suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to the head, arms and legs.
Based on the information provided by Kherson CMA, in the morning, russian troops shelled residential neighborhoods in Kherson, damaging houses and vehicles. There were no casualties reported at the time of publication.

Today, it was reported that a 60-year-old woman was killed in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson after coming under russian shelling around 4:30pm yesterday.
According to the City Military Administration, a 69-year-old woman injured during yesterday’s russian attack on Dniprovskyi district of Kherson sought medical help today. She suffered a blast injury and contusions.
Relying on the information provided by the National Police, yesterday, a russian FPV drone attacked Komyshany, a suburb of Kherson. 2 police officers sustained concussions and one of them suffered an abdominal wound.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on 27 October, russian forces launched 12 unsuccessful assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions in the south, including 4 attacks repelled by Ukrainian forces in Prydniprovsk region.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 27 October, from liberated communities of Kherson oblast, 13 residents were evacuated.
According to the Regional Military Administration, a 24-year-old resident of Kherson sought medical help after being injured in a russian strike on 24 October. She sustained a blast injury and a concussion.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
Volyn National Guardsmen presented the Helios unmanned aerial systems unit. During the presentation, they discussed features of using multirotor, aircraft and FPV drones, shared combat experience and emphasized the importance of high-quality operator training.
Zakarpattia oblast
At the initiative of the Veterans Policy Department of the Social Policy Department of the City Council, a master class in pottery and clay modeling was recently held in Uzhhorod, in which not only servicemen but also their families were invited to participate.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk community allocated an additional UAH 42.9m for expenses related to the armed aggression of the russian federation. The amount of funding for regional programs to support the region’s military formations has also been increased: + UAH 20m this year and + UAH 90m next year.
Lviv oblast
The Slovenian delegation visited the Superhumans Center in Lviv oblast. Guests got acquainted with the work of the center, visited the prosthetics laboratory, the reconstructive surgery department, and talked with medics and patients undergoing rehabilitation after injuries and traumas.
Work continues in Pomoriansk community on weaving camouflage nets. This week, another batch of camouflage nets was sent from Pomorian to defenders.
The fighters of the 4th Separate Special Forces Unit Omeha were given 46 FPV drones from Zolochiv community.
Rivne oblast
140,000 Ukrainian veterans will take advantage of the Veteran Sports program in the 4th quarter. Among them are representatives of Rivne oblast. Today, 25 sports spaces in the oblast are involved in this initiative.
Ternopil oblast
A Vauxhall (Opel Movano) minibus was donated to the National Guard of from Ternopil community.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
An explosion occurred in a multi-storey building in Khmelnytskyi. According to preliminary information, it was caused by domestic gas. Part of the building was destroyed, part was seriously damaged. Municipal services, rescuers, police and medics are already working at the scene of the emergency. Debris removal and other operational measures are beginning.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA reported that for courage and heroism shown in the defense of the state, soldier Mykola Statny was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously).
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
