Ukraine in brief:

The 75th day of the heroic opposition of the Ukrainian people to the russian military invasion continues.

The most significant activity of the occupiers is observed in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk oblasts.

There is a high probability of missile strikes on civilian and military infrastructure throughout Ukraine.

In the north of Ukraine, the enemy did not take active action; no signs of the formation of offensive groups were found.

In the Kharkiv Oblast, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations. It leads the defense. The main efforts continue to focus on preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops toward the state border of Ukraine. In the Izyum direction, the replenishment of stocks of material and technical means proceeds. The enemy is conducting air reconnaissance.

The battle for Rubizhne continues. Russian occupation troops are trying to improve the tactical situation, capture the city and create favorable conditions for further development of offensive operations in the areas of Lyman and Severodonetsk. They made an unsuccessful attempt to storm the settlement of Voevodivka, and it was not successful. Russian occupation troops resigned.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy fought unsuccessfully in the area of ​​the settlement of Toshkivka.

In Mariupol, despite the declared “silence”, russian orcs resumed shelling and assault on the Azovstal plant.

In the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, enemy units are regrouping troops in preparation for further action. It is expected to increase this group at the expense of units that performed tasks in the area of ​​Mariupol.

Almost along the entire line of contact, the enemy continues to use all available artillery and aircraft to fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops, the destruction of civilian and military infrastructure.

In the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the enemy continues to carry out measures of the administrative-police regime. The celebration of the so-called “Victory Day” was simulated for the russian media in some of the occupied settlements.

Northern oblasts

Kyiv Oblast

Today there were two air alarms. A farewell ceremony was held at the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral with Oleksandr Makhov, a journalist and military serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Alexander was lost at the front on May 4th.

Zhytomyr Oblast

On the Kyiv-Ivankiv-Ovruch highway, the arrangement of a temporary driveway has been completed. The oblast service of roads allowed the movement of vehicles in reverse mode. There is also a temporary passage in the north of the Oblast, on the highway Vystupovychi – Zhytomyr – Mohyliv-Podilskyi, which can be used in both directions at the same time without restrictions for freight transport.

The website of the Berdychiv City Council reported that public transport in Berdychiv will not run for the next few days due to a lack of fuel. Already yesterday public transport did not go on routes.

Chernihiv Oblast

Yesterday at about 5 pm, russian occupation forces fired on the villages of the Horodyanka community near the state border of Ukraine. In total, the russians made four mortar rounds. According to preliminary information, there are no victims.

Yesterday, the President of Ukraine presented state awards to Ukrainian sappers who demined previously occupied russian territories. The dog “Patron from Chernihiv” also received the award “for dedicated service”, it was acquired by the owner of the rescue dog Mykhailo Iliev. In Chernihiv Oblast, city and oblast transport connections are being restored.

Sumy Oblast

Yesterday, a Jewish cemetery was damaged during an attack by the enemy of the Hlukhiv community.

In the evening, russian aircraft fired twice at settlements in the Sumy Oblast.

In the morning, the occupiers fired artillery at the border areas. The Khotyn community came under fire. From the russian village of Elizavetivka, ten rockets landed about 10 km from the border in the field. Half an hour later, ten more missiles arrived in the field in Sumy Oblast. There are no victims. Ukrposhta branches did not work in Sumy Oblast today due to possible provocations.

Eastern oblasts

Donetsk Oblast

Since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine, shelling and bombing in the Donetsk Oblast have killed 334 civilians and injured 1013 others. The number of victims of russian aggression in Mariupol and Volnovakha is currently unknown.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion 

In the Avdiivka and Kurakhiv areas, russian occupation troops are trying to break through the AFU defense.

On May 8th, the occupants killed two civilians in Ocheretyno. The AFU repulsed the enemy. Territorial Defense Forces were on duty in the community. The last day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively calm. No facts of destruction were recorded. No one was injured. Utilities continue to operate normally.


Explosions were heard today, but no damage was reported. The situation remains alarming. In neighboring Sloviansk, a blow was struck in the central part of the city. The extent of the damage is being determined. The Head of the Military Civil Administration, Vadym Lyakh, wrote about this on the social network: “Congratulations” on May 9th from “Brothers”.

A group of people from Siversk was evacuated again today.


The situation in the city is very tense. Fighting is approaching in Bakhmut. As of May 9th, private trade facilities in the Bakhmut community are operating in a limited mode.


The russian occupation authority held a parade in Mariupol. The Adviser to the City’s Mayor Andryushchenko, said that the russian soldiers staged a march with a 300-meter Saint George ribbon.

Luhansk Oblast

The russians fired on the Lysychansk Oil Refinery, Ukraine’s second-largest plant. Currently, there is a threat of an explosion. The building is still on fire because Ukrainian firefighters cannot put it out due to the russian artillery shelling. They had to stop their work.

The Head of the Luhansk Military Administration, Serhiy Haidai, says that the russian soldiers try to “cut off” Luhansk Oblast from Ukraine by taking the Lysychansk-Bakhmut highway under control. The Ukrainians use this highway to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate people.

Southern oblasts

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The military situation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast remains without significant changes. The occupiers continue their active artillery shellings. In particular, Polohy and Huliaipole are being fired.

On May 8th, the armed forces of russia soldiers hit their positions with a heavy flamethrower system, “Solntsepek” (Sun). This information was published on the official Facebook page of the 97th Infantry Battalion of the 60th Separate Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

In Polohy, the russian soldiers shot about 20 of their vehicles to avoid going to the frontline and blamed members of the resistance movement for that.

In the occupied territories, the occupiers are trying to celebrate May 9th. In Melitopol, the occupation authority gathered a crowd and held an event called “bezsmertnyi polk” (“immortal regiment”). Its participants were mainly pensioners holding red flags of the communist party and the russian soldiers with white armbands.

Soldiers at the russian checkpoint in Vasylivka do not allow the evacuees with cars from Melitopol to pass. The cars passing Orikhiv were fired on.

In Enerhodar, the occupiers have also held a march and organized a broadcast of russian television on the square. An extended curfew has been announced in Zaporizhzhia. It is forbidden to go outside until 5:00 on May 10th.

Kherson Oblast

The russian occupation troops began to seize the apartments of Kherson residents. The city’s so-called “military commander” requires all heads of the housing organizations to “provide lists of apartments whose owners have left Kherson to give empty houses to temporary migrants who arrived from the zone of active hostilities”.

In Kherson Oblast, the fire engulfed forests near the villages of Heroiske and Ivanivka, but russian occupiers did not allow locals and fire trucks to put out the fire. It can affect two villages nearby, people and children. The russians continue to export agricultural products and machinery from farmers.


The russian occupiers are holding reinforced checkpoints. The City’s Mayor continues to work and manage the community remotely.

Today the occupiers held a parade. They organized a concert in support of russia. A rally in support of Ukraine took place at the same time. There was no confrontation. The occupiers began to deliver food products from Crimea. Prices have sharply risen. The pharmacies and banks have not resumed their work. The occupiers appointed a new Head and a Deputy Head of the Raion State Administration.


Odesa Oblast

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, visited Odesa. In the morning, the russian soldiers fired on Odesa Oblast with four missiles.

They were fired from the russian-occupied Crimea. There were also attempts to inspect the area with the drones. At night, the russian drone “Orlan-10”, conducting air reconnaissance, was destroyed.

In Odesa, local authorities imposed a curfew throughout the day due to the high risk of provocations from russia. The situation is tense. There is always a probability of missile strikes.

Central oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast 

Today Zelenodolska and Shyroke communities, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, were fired. The number of people leaving Dnipro is decreasing (no more than 100 people a day). More than 200 000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have arrived in Dnipro. Among them, many older people do not plan to move further west.

There are enough pills in Dnipro, and all hospitals work. There are many wounded. The city needs people to donate blood.

The entrepreneurs continue to support the military. Thus, since the beginning of the war, the company “Natsional” from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast produces about seven thousand canned meat daily and delivers them to the AFU soldiers and IDPs for free. The company regularly sends humanitarian aid to various cities: Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, and Mariupol.

The TAPS-Ukraine charity organization and the Dnipro Volunteer Coordination Headquarters donated two ambulances and 17 000 Spanish Individual Meal Packs (IMP) to the AFU. In Dnipro, SpivDiya Hub provided humanitarian aid to more than 33 000 IDPs and Dnipro residents in need. Almost 190 volunteers are involved in the work of the hub every day.


Kirovohrad Oblast

The day passed calmly, without air alarms. In general, the situation in the Oblast is under control. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) guarded the Oblast’s borders and military facilities. Troops were on duty at checkpoints and patrolled the city with police.

The President of Ukraine posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the Third Degree to Serhiy Pohribny and Oleksandr Kaplunov, who died in the liberation struggle against the russian invaders.

The oblast headquarters for work with IDPs of the Kirovohrad Oblast Military Administration reports that as of May 9th, 74 350 people (including 22 206 children) from the oblasts where active hostilities with the russian occupiers are ongoing remained in the Oblast for permanent residence. Since the beginning of the russian armed aggression, almost 140 000 IDPs have sought help from the Oblast headquarters.

The Kiyashko couple from Alexandria overcame their 10-kilometer running marathon. They transferred 5000 hryvnias to the necessary equipment for the Alexandrians fighting in one of the AFU anti-tank divisions. They offer to join the action on social networks with the hashtag # км_в_допомогу, where you first run a little, then transfer a convenient amount to the guys-defenders, and then pass the initiative to someone from friends or acquaintances.

Kropyvnytskyi swimmer Iryna Tereshchenko won gold in the 100 meters breaststroke at the XXIV Summer Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul (Brazil).

The AUI “Active Community” coordinator provided IDPs with advice on obtaining IDP status documents and information on the available resources of the oblast center’s employers and surrounding communities.

Poltava Oblast

On the night of May 9th, an air alarm sounded in Poltava Oblast. Volunteers in Poltava continue to collect food for the residents of Okhtyrka, Trostyanets, and Kharkiv.

Road signs were dismantled in Poltava Oblast, which were dismantled at the beginning of the war. Road workers install road signs “Beginning of the settlement”, “End of the settlement”, and “Automatic video recording of violations of traffic rules” with signs “Area of ​​action” on the roads M-03 Kyiv-Kharkiv and M-22 Poltava-Alexandria. It is done to restore speed control and ensure road safety. The police determine the location of the signs.

Blocks were dismantled at the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant, previously shelled by the russians. The Head of the Kremenchuk Raion Military Administration said that today specialists from the Ministry of Economy and other officials came to Kremenchuk to visit the enterprise and decide how to resume its work by autumn. The calculation of the damage and cost estimate for the resumption of the enterprise will now begin. The previous amount is 800 million hryvnias.


Vinnytsia Oblast

According to the operative information of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the power structures of unrecognized Transnistria have been transferred to an enhanced mode of service. The AFU are ready to repel the enemy. Territorial Defense Forces are on duty in the community.

Public utilities take care of landscaping, municipal transport runs on schedule, and Vinnytsia residents receive all housing services. The eighth enterprise from Mariupol moved to Vinnytsia. In total, the community hosted 17 companies from hotspots.

Parish of the Church of the Archangel Michael s. Nova Hreblya, Khmilnytskyi Raion, Vinnytsia Oblast, with its abbot, Archpriest Volodymyr Slobodonyuk, decided to resign from the Moscow Patriarchate and join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

On May 7th, the Law came into force, according to which all IDPs and people in areas of active hostilities will be granted unemployment status from the first day of registration at the employment center and will receive unemployment benefits.

Western oblasts

Lviv Oblast

One air alarm alert was heard during the day. Another 286 people from other oblasts were sheltered in the Oblast. According to official figures, 340 000 people have been resettled since the start of the full-scale invasion. 234 000 IDPs have already registered as IDPs in the Unified Information Database. 74 000 of them are children.


Volunteers united in one movement to help the Petro Sahaidachny Separate Battalion of Territorial Defense Forces. Recently, soldiers of a separate battalion of the Petro Sahaidachny Drohobych Territorial Defense Forces have been defending Ukraine and fighting the occupier.

Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

The situation is stable in Prykarpattya. The past 24 hours went without air alerts. Much fake news about IDPs and their alleged reluctance to serve in the AFU spread on social media. The government tries to mitigate these. E. g., the police force in Kolomyia will check on the authors of such posts on social media. The respective task has been commissioned by Kolomyia Raion Military Administration Chair Liubomyr Hlushkov, who advises residents not to believe the rumors.

The Luhansk State University of Internal Affairs named after Eduard Didorenko moves to Ivano-Frankivsk because of the war. It will be stationed at the Prykarpattya Department of the National Academy of Internal Affairs premises.

The volunteers continue their diligent work to cater to the needs of the AFU and assist IDPs in the community in adapting to their new circumstances.


Rivne Oblast

As of 17:00, no air raid alerts have been reported. The situation is generally calm. AFU service members are patrolling the border with belarus. Territorial Defense Forces are patrolling and keeping watch at checkpoints.

Rivne Oblast Military Administration Head reports that some 1774 individuals have been detained for curfew violations. Most of the offenders, 1590, were found in Rivne itself. About three hundred of them have been transferred to Security Service of Ukraine units for further investigation of circumstances.


Zdovbytska community

The situation is calm in the community, with no air raid alerts to report. Territorial Defense Forces continue operating the checkpoints. The residents are making camo nets for the AFU. Local MPs collect MREs for the military and involve the community in the activity.

The Zdovbytsia Village Council has launched an initiative, Together to Victory, which involves the renovation of public transport stops, public buildings, monuments, and architectural monuments. A concrete wall has already been turned into a patriotic mural of Unbroken Ukraine.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast


The Mayor calls community residents to pay maximum attention to air raid alerts and hide in shelters today and in the coming days with a view of the information about potential threats to western oblasts.

A workgroup to develop a Victory Orchards program has been set up in the city. At its first meeting, the group identified key tasks of efficient use of land plots and accumulation of resources to cultivate agricultural produce to avoid a food crisis in the community. The utility staff is finalizing the fitting-out of the Ukrainian Garden, a project implemented in the courtyard of Kost Solukha Central Library.

Some 48 comers to Kamyanets-Podilsky from eastern oblasts have been officially hosted in the community this weekend. The community has also prepared lunches and dinners for about 5000 Ukrainians.

Four education institutions are preparing for a national multi-discipline test instead of EIT. The community expects about a thousand and a half 9th and 11th-graders to sit the test this year.


Chernivtsi Oblast (Bukovyna)

The situation in the Oblast is calm and under control. A delegation of Romania has come to Bukovyna with a friendly visit on Europe Day. The delegation comprises, among others, representatives of the Department for Romanians Living Abroad and its chair, Minister State Secretary George Florin Kircu. The guests have met with Chernivtsi Oblast Military Administration Chair Serghiy Osachuk. Romanian government representatives have assured the hosts of the comprehensive support of Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor.

Bukovyna lost two more of its heroes who lost their lives in the ferocious fight for Ukraine and against the russian invaders. The village of Klyvodyn has paid last respects to Sergeant Vasyl Hnachuk today. Another fallen hero, Kostyantyn Kosovan, has been laid to rest in the village of Lopushna

According to the Press Services of the Chernivtsi Oblast Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, the finishing of manning military units with personnel and also reserve officers is taking place right now. Various military specialties are in demand. Those without prior experience are being sent to training centers for respective training.

Larysa Zvarychuk, an entrepreneur from the Storozhyntsi community in Bukovyna, has opened a shop to make armored plate carriers for armored vests for the Ukrainian military. The moment she heard of the need for individual equipment, Larysa fit out premises and bought the kit, all on her own. Some 30 jobs were created, and training was arranged for employees. The shop is working two shifts now, churning 3000 plate carriers a day.

A hub has opened in Chernivtsi, offering baby formula and food, diapers, clothes, shoes, and linen for IDPs. The aid is reaching local volunteers from benefactors, international partners, and organizations from European countries.

Zakarpattia Oblast

Two volunteers, Nazar Dychuk and Dmytro Byts, from Zakarpattia Oblast, have died in the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk Oblast. Throughout the war, they were regularly assisted with the evacuation of Oblast residents. They would rescue people every day, take them to safety and deliver humanitarian aid. They died from a russian airstrike on a school in Bilohorivka where they stayed together with locals.

14 businesses in Oblast have already received reimbursement of labor costs related to the employment of IDPs. A total of 35 IDPs have been employed, Zakarpattia Employment Center informs.

For the time of the full-scale military invasion by russia, more than 3500 people, among them more than 1500 residents of other oblasts in Ukraine where active hostilities have been taking place, have applied to the Oblast Employment Service looking for jobs. Oblast employment centers have already been instrumental in finding employment for 1089 individuals, among them 94 who came to Zakarpattia Oblast from other Oblasts of Ukraine affected by active combat actions.

In Uzhhorod, artist Yuliya Yehorova-Rohova held a master class of clay pottery-making for Roma children who had come from war-affected areas.
