In total, 189 combat engagements have taken place since the beginning of the day.
The enemy launched 70 air strikes, dropping 224 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they deployed 6,564 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,260 attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian forces.
On the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the Defense Forces successfully repelled two enemy attacks. In addition, the enemy carried out one air strike using two guided aerial bombs and conducted 53 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian forces and settlements.
During the day, on the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy launched eight assaults on the positions of Ukrainian units near Lyman, Okhrimivka and Bochkovе; two engagements are still ongoing.
No enemy offensive actions were recorded on the Kupiansk direction.
Ten attempts by the invaders to advance were repelled on the Lyman direction near Shyikivka, Karpivka, Novoselivka, Zarichne, Drobysheve and Lyman; one more engagement is ongoing.
On the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces successfully stopped 14 attempts by the invaders to advance near Kryva Luka, Zakitne and Mykolaivka.
Two enemy assaults were recorded on the Kramatorsk direction near Dibrova and Vasiutynske.
On the Kostiantynivka direction, the Defense Forces repelled 21 enemy assaults near Ivanopillia, Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne and Novoselivka.
The enemy launched a total of 26 attacks on the Pokrovsk direction. The occupiers attempted to advance near the settlements of Vilne, Kucheriv Yar, Hannivka, Matasheve, Svitle, Bilytske, Shevchenko, Vasylivka, Kotlyne, Udačne, Muravka and Molodetske.
According to preliminary estimates, 33 occupiers were killed and 15 wounded in this area today. Two artillery systems, four vehicles, one piece of special equipment, two unmanned aerial vehicle command posts and 27 enemy shelters were destroyed. Three vehicles, one UAV command post and 90 enemy shelters were damaged. 352 UAVs of various types were destroyed or suppressed.
On the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks near Voskresenka, Piddubne, Novo Zaporizhzhia and Rybne.
Seven enemy attacks were recorded on the Huliaipole direction near the settlements of Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove and Novoselivka.
On the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy attacks near Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky and Prymorske.
No enemy assault actions were recorded on the Dnipro River direction.
There have been no significant changes in the situation on the other directions.
Another 103 Ukrainian prisoners of war have returned to Ukraine. In total, 9,716 Ukrainian citizens have now been released. This was reported by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
During the past 24 hours, 239 combat engagements were recorded along the front line.
On the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled ten attacks by Russian forces near Izbytske, Dovzhanka, Starytsia, Mytrofanivka, Lozova Druha, Radkivka, Bochkovе and Okhrimivka. On the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces attacked twice toward Novoosynove and Kurylivka.
On August 19, a Russian drone attacked Yazykove in the Barvinkivska community. Railway rolling stock was damaged and a fire broke out, which was subsequently extinguished.
On August 19, Russian forces attacked Zolochiv with FPV drones at least twice. At around 10:35 a.m., one drone struck a road, damaging a vehicle and windows of a nearby house. At around 11:20 a.m., another drone struck a residential property.
In Kharkiv, on August 19, a Russian UAV fell near an apartment building in the Saltivskyi district. Another combat drone struck the grounds of a cemetery in the Kholodnohirskyi district.
During August 18, Russian strikes hit 15 settlements in the Kharkiv region. Ten people were killed and 23 injured, including a child. In Pechenihy, ten people were killed and 18 injured. In Slatyne, Derhachi community, two men aged 44 and 47 were wounded. In Balakliia, a 38-year-old man was injured, while a 31-year-old woman and a 9-year-old boy suffered acute stress reactions.
Over the past day, Russian forces used four missiles, five guided aerial bombs, two Geran-2 UAVs, five Molniya UAVs, four FPV drones and another 40 drones whose type is still being determined against the Kharkiv region.
In Bohodukhiv district, residential buildings, outbuildings, a vehicle, a gas station and power infrastructure were damaged. In Kupiansk district, a minibus was damaged. In Izium district, warehouses, a vehicle, railway infrastructure, power networks and a private house were damaged. In Kharkiv district, a vehicle was damaged, while in Lozova district, two vehicles and a warehouse building were damaged. In Chuhuiv district, ten private houses, five shops, a post office building and 16 vehicles were damaged.
On August 19, a café employee who was killed in the Russian missile strike the previous day was buried in Pechenihy. Most of the ten victims have already been identified; DNA testing is required to establish the identities of the others.
Another 103 Ukrainians returned home as part of a prisoner exchange. Among them were six residents of Kharkiv, two servicemen from Bohodukhiv district, and one person each from Chuhuiv, Izium, Berestyn and Lozova districts.
A Russian serviceman was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison for crimes committed during the occupation of Novo Burluk in the Pechenihy community. According to prosecutors, he threatened a local resident with execution and, after the man’s family was evacuated, stole his car.
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 266 people over the past day. Since it began operating, 53,429 people have been registered there.

Donetsk oblast
In the Donetsk region, Russian forces carried out 31 attacks on the Kostiantynivka direction over the past day. Fighting took place near Kostiantynivka, Novoselivka, Dovha Balka, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Sofiivka and Rusynyi Yar, as well as in the directions of Vilne, Stepanivka, Novopavlivka and Kucheriv Yar. On the Pokrovsk direction, the Defense Forces repelled 27 assaults, while on the Sloviansk direction, they repelled 16.
On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces are attempting to reach the road from Rodynske to Kryvorizhzhia in order to use it for further advancement toward Dobropillia.
During the night of August 19, the Defense Forces struck three UAV storage facilities, a fuel depot and areas where Russian military equipment was concentrated in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On August 18, police recorded 1,303 Russian strikes on the frontline and residential areas of Donetsk region. Nine settlements came under fire. One person was killed and four others, including a child, were injured. Thirty-five civilian facilities were damaged, including 16 residential buildings.
In Druzhkivka, a person was killed in a Russian attack and a private house was damaged.
Russian forces attacked Kramatorsk with KAB-250 guided aerial bombs and drones. Four civilians were injured, including a child born in 2015. Four apartment buildings, three private houses and five vehicles were damaged.
Sloviansk was attacked with Gerbera, Molniya-2, Geran-2 and FPV drones. Five private houses, an administrative building, a vehicle and market stalls were damaged.
Russian forces struck Shabelkivka with four KAB-250 aerial bombs and a Molniya-2 UAV. A private house was damaged.
In Ocheretyne, Russian attacks damaged an administrative building and a shop; in Vasylivska Pustosh, a private house was damaged.
Since the beginning of August, 169 children have been evacuated from seven settlements in Donetsk region where compulsory evacuation of families with children has been ordered. On August 15, the last two children remaining in Mykolaivka were evacuated. There are currently no minors left in the city.
Luhansk oblast
In the Luhansk region, Russian forces carried out six attacks on the Lyman direction over the past day, near four settlements. The occupiers used mortars four times, as well as grenade launchers, directed six FPV drones toward Ukrainian positions, and conducted 19 drone drops.
A serviceman of the Pomsta Brigade of the Luhansk Border Guard Detachment was released from Russian captivity. He had been held captive for more than a year.
In the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, Russian authorities plan to hold early voting in the elections for deputies of the Russian State Duma from August 28 to September 17, followed by three more days of the main voting period. In total, the voting process will last 24 days. According to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, votes are planned to be collected at people’s homes, in residential courtyards and other locations, including settlements where there are no polling stations or where transport connections are difficult.
In the temporarily occupied Sievierodonetsk, appointments with the only operating notary are booked several months in advance. The situation worsened during the summer because of the specialist’s extended vacation, while the occupation authorities have failed to find a replacement. As a result, case reviews and new appointments are being postponed indefinitely.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
As of the evening of August 18, firefighters were still working to extinguish a fire at a warehouse building in Brovary district, which broke out during the day as a result of an enemy UAV strike, according to the Kyiv Regional State Emergency Service.
In addition, emergency responders were working at the sites of grass fires in Brovary and Vyshhorod districts, which started after UAV debris fell.

On the evening of August 18, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with drones. An air raid alert was declared in the city at 6:29 p.m. In the Dniprovs’kyi district, debris from a Russian drone fell in the courtyard of a five-story residential building and at another location, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported. No fires were reported.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 400 apartment and private residential buildings, 29 unfinished structures and 33 educational institutions in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district have been damaged by Russian attacks. Three apartment buildings have been declared unsafe and unfit for habitation, according to the Podilskyi District State Administration.
With the support of the Government of Belgium, two operating rooms for maxillofacial surgery have been equipped at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital, according to the Regional Military Administration. The total amount of Belgian investment in the development of the medical facility exceeds €2.5 million.
Zhytomyr oblast
On August 19, Russian forces attacked Zhytomyr with jet-powered drones. A strike hit the building of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region. Two police officers were killed and at least 20 people were injured, according to the National Police.
During the prisoner exchange on August 19, 2026, eight defenders from the Zhytomyr region returned to Ukraine, according to Regional Military Administration Head Vitalii Bunechko. He said the servicemen returning from Russian captivity to their families are from Zhytomyr, Korosten, Popilnia, as well as the villages of Zarubyntsi, Tepenytia, Berezivka, Velyka Racha and Kovalenky.
Sumy oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported on the evening of 18 August that Defence Forces units had destroyed or suppressed more than 800 enemy UAVs using electronic warfare systems over Sumy oblast in the past week. According to the Territorial Defence Zone Headquarters, a total of 976 enemy UAVs were detected over Sumy oblast during this period. Of these, 84% were destroyed or suppressed by electronic warfare systems.
The Regional Military Administration informed that six residents of Sumy oblast returned to Ukraine from russian captivity on 19 August. Servicemen from Sumy, Romny and Shostka regions are returning home.
According to the State Emergency Service, russian forces struck a non-residential building in Lebedyn community on 19 August. The attack caused a fire, which was extinguished by rescuers. No one was injured.
From the morning of 18 August to the morning of 19 August, russian forces carried out more than 30 attacks on 15 settlements across 11 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs, and also carried out a missile strike. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted 18 hours and 33 minutes.
Three civilians were injured in enemy attacks across Sumy oblast over the past day. In Kyrykivka community, three men were wounded and injured in an enemy drone strike. Destruction and damage were also recorded:

An eight-year-old girl who was injured in enemy UAV strikes on Sumy community on 16 August received medical treatment. A 36-year-old man who was injured in an enemy drone strike in Bezdryk community on 17 August also sought medical assistance.
Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, National Police and civil society organisations, evacuated 57 people from border communities.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that russian forces attacked three communities in Chernihiv oblast with attack UAVs on 18 August and overnight on 19 August.
Overnight on 19 August, a Herbera UAV struck the premises of a local enterprise in Baturyn community. The roofs of garages caught fire and a vehicle was damaged. The fire was extinguished.
On the morning of 18 August, russians attacked Kozelets community by a Heran UAV. A strike was recorded on the premises of a transport enterprise. Lorries and cars were damaged, while one of the buildings caught fire. The fire was extinguished.
On 18 August, a Herbera strike damaged a residential building in a village in Horodnia community.
Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast on 18 August: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy used mortars (13 explosions), tube artillery (five explosions) and FPV drones (10 explosions). Ten settlements came under enemy fire.
Forests of Ukraine State Enterprise reported that falling russian drones caused forest fires covering 14.4 hectares in Chernihiv oblast between 10 and 16 August. The region ranked second in Ukraine by the area affected by fires caused by russian attacks.
The Department of Information Activities and Public Communications of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration reported that six modular homes for internally displaced persons are planned to be installed in Novyi Basan community with assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. UNHCR will provide for the manufacture and installation of the homes, the community will prepare the land plots and handle organisational matters, while specialists from the Regional Military Administration will coordinate the project.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Nikopol region. The enemy attacked Nikopol and Marhanets community by drones and artillery. Two garages, an administrative building and a shop caught fire.
Kryvyi Rih region. A private house was damaged in an FPV drone attack in Zelenodolsk community.
Nikopol region. A 32-year-old police officer was injured in Marhanets. The occupiers attacked Nikopol, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities by drones and artillery. Two apartment buildings, three private houses, a shop, a college, an enterprise, a car park, nine vehicles and infrastructure were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
Serhii Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, said that six defenders from Vinnytsia oblast are returning from russian captivity. They are Sviatoslav, Viktor, Andrii, Oleh, Oleksii and Mykola.
The deaths of nine defenders from Vinnytsia oblast have been confirmed: Leonid Borovskyi, Serhii Koshel, Ihor Tkachenko, Ruslan Ihnatov, Oleksandr Stepaniuk, Ruslan Hnatiuk, Vadym Muliar, Serhii Melnyk and Serhii Horovyi.
Kirovohrad oblast
According to Volodymyr Sokyrko, Head of Znamianka community, 13 flats in seven apartment buildings were damaged in Znamianka community, Kirovohrad oblast, following the russian attack on 14 August. Preliminary estimates indicate that UAH 1.2 million may be allocated to restore the damaged property and provide financial assistance to residents.
Poltava oblast
Vitalii Diakivnych, Head of Kremenchuk Regional Military Administration, informed that debris from a russian UAV fell in an open area in Kremenchuk region yesterday evening, causing a vegetation fire. No one was injured.
Two servicemen from Poltava oblast have been killed in the war: Junior Sergeant Mykyta Nesterov from Kremenchuk and Senior Soldier Denys Nykyforov from Kobeliaky community.
Mykyta Nesterov died in hospital on 13 August 2026 from injuries sustained in a russian air strike in Synelnykove region, Dnipropetrovsk oblast.
Denys Nykyforov was killed on 9 May 2025 near the settlement of Troitske, Pokrovske region, Donetsk oblast.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that four servicemen from Cherkasy oblast returned from russian captivity in a prisoner exchange on 19 August.
Two servicemen, Maksym Kuznetsov and Oleksii Tarasenko, were buried in Zvenyhorodka region.
Maksym Kuznetsov died in Zvenyhorodka on 16 August 2026. He was 41.
Oleksii Tarasenko was killed on 19 July 2024 while carrying out a combat mission near Novooleksandrivka, Pokrovske region.
The families of defenders from Zolotonosha region received posthumous awards. Missing servicemen were also honoured.
Serhii Kolesnik, Ruslan Lutchenko, Yevhenii Romanenko and Viktor Bondar were posthumously awarded the Order for Courage.
Other state and military decorations were awarded posthumously: Yevhenii Rudenko received the Golden Trident, Serhii Khaliavko the Combatant’s Cross, Vitalii Noha the For the Defence of Ukraine award, and Yurii Steblyna an insignia accompanying the honorary Golden Cross badge.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
On the morning of 19 August, russian forces carried out an airstrike on a private residential area in one of Zaporizhzhia’s districts. The attack damaged residential buildings and outbuildings. Following another strike on the city, parts of Zaporizhzhia experienced power disruptions, though by 5:15 pm, electricity was restored to more than 68,000 customers.
Earlier in the morning, russian forces attacked Trudoolenivka with guided aerial bombs, injuring a woman. A man was also injured in Bilenke in a russian drone attack, while another man was wounded in Shevchenkivske after a drone strike.
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that on 18 August, russian forces launched 1,019 strikes on 52 settlements across Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian troops carried out 19 airstrikes on Komyshuvakha, Novomykolaivka, Tavriiske, Yuliivka, Zaporozhets, Barvynivka, Svitla Dolyna, Orikhiv, Soniachne, Vasynivka, Chervonyi Yar, Omelnyk, Chervona Krynytsia. 717 drones of various types, mostly FPV drones, targeted Zaporizhzhia, Komyshuvakha, Kushuhum, Ternuvate, Novoiakovlivka, Veselianka, Richne, Rozumivka, Yasna Poliana, Maksymivka, Stepne, Helendzhyk, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Preobrazhenka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Charivne, Novoselivka, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, Kosivtseve, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Mykilske, Rivne, Prydorozhne, Chervona Krynytsia, Dobropillia, and Pryluky. russian forces also launched seven MLRS strikes on Pavlivka, Zaliznychne, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, and Hirke, while 276 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Preobrazhenka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Charivne, Novoselivka, Huliaipilske, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Tsvitkove, Kosivtseve, and Nove Zaporizhzhia. Authorities received 192 reports of damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure. Two people were killed and ten others were injured in attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia region.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, russian forces launched 12 attacks on Ukrainian positions towards Huliaipole over the previous day, attempting to advance toward Rivne, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Novoselivka, Lisne, Charivne, and Hirke. Ukrainian defenders repelled one russian assault near Plavni towards.
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Head Ivan Fedorov reported that on 19 August, Ukrainian drone operators destroyed 50 russian drones on the Zaporizhzhia front, the majority of them Molniya drones.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast also plans to protect more than 100 kilometers of roads from russian drone attacks by the end of the year. The region is building a three-tier anti-drone corridor system along state, local, and municipal roads, and according to Ivan Fedorov, the project is now nearly halfway complete.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that on 18 August, russian forces attacked Mykolaiv oblast with Shahed drones. As of the morning, no damage or casualties had been reported.
During the previous day, russian forces also struck an industrial facility in Mykolaiv region with an Kh-22 cruise missile. In addition, they carried out an artillery strike on Kutsurub community. No casualties were reported.
Odesa oblast
According to the “South” Air Command press service, between 9:30 am on 18b August and 9:30 am on 19 August, russian forces launched three Banderol loitering munitions at Odesa oblast. An air raid alert due to the threat of Banderol loitering munitions in Odesa region during the night of 19 August lasted from 12:57 am to 1:06 am At 12:58 am, the Ukrainian Air Force warned that Banderol munitions were heading from the Black Sea toward Odesa or Chornomorsk.
Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper reported that five servicemen from Odesa oblast returned from russian captivity during the prisoner exchange on 19 August. They include two natives of Odesa and residents of the Rozdilna, Kodyma, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi communities.
Kherson oblast
Police of Kherson oblast reported that at around 9:00 am on 19 August, russian forces struck a shuttle bus with a drone. Four people were killed and five others were injured.
According to Kherson RMA, at around 10:00 am, a Kherson woman was fatally wounded when a russian drone struck a car. Her identity is currently being established.
It is reported that russian forces also killed a woman with a drone strike in central Kherson. A 43-year-old man was hospitalized.
At around 4:00 pm, russian forces attacked an ambulance with a drone in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district. Two women, aged 70 and 45, were injured.
At around 2:40 pm, russian forces attacked a man with a drone in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district. The 56-year-old resident was diagnosed with blast injuries and burns to his face and arm.
A man who was injured in this morning’s russian shelling of Kherson was taken to the hospital. The 58-year-old resident was preliminarily diagnosed with blast injuries.

At around 11:15 am, russian forces attacked a man with a drone in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district. The 51-year-old resident suffered blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his leg.
At around 10:00 am, russian forces struck a civilian car in central Kherson with a drone. A 43-year-old man was diagnosed with blast injuries, facial shrapnel wounds, and a fractured jaw.
Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that five Kherson residents injured in previous russian attacks sought medical assistance today.
Police of Kherson oblast reported that on 18 August, russian attacks targeted Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Stanislav, Mykilske, Veletynske, Inzhenerne, Blahovishchenske, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Tomyna Balka, Romashkove, Zorivka, Molodetske, Rozlyv, Beryslav, Rakivka, Petropavlivka, Osokorivka, Kostyrka, Vysokopillia, Tavriiske, Vysoke, Kozatske, and Vesele. The attacks damaged three apartment buildings and 15 private homes, a municipal enterprise, a café, State Emergency Service special equipment, three vehicles, and a bus. Nine people were injured in russian attacks, while two others were injured by a landmine explosion and a drone detonation.

The RMA reported that 3 soldiers from the oblast, servicemen of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, were returned from enemy captivity.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The Military Unit A1267, stationed in the Carpathian region, received 7 sets, which include laser pointers, searchlights and charging stations worth almost UAH 336,000.
Lviv oblast
The RMA reported that among the soldiers who were released from captivity, there are 4 residents of Lviv oblast.
Rivne oblast
Among the Ukrainian soldiers released from captivity are 5 of compatriots from Rivne oblast. 3 of them are from Rivne region and 2 more are from Dubno. The youngest is 37 years old, the oldest is 58.
Ternopil oblast
A memorial plaque in honor of fallen soldier Arsen Kozub was unveiled on the facade of Ternopil School №10. The soldier was killed on 10 October 2025, while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
390 military personnel from Khmelnytskyi community will receive financial assistance for rehabilitation or treatment. The total amount is UAH 5.4m.
Chernivtsi oblast
